Whats the line in Boondock Saints?

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing

something like that?

Goons; infiltration at its best - first bob... now ccp itself. They dont realize you guys dot take this as "just a game". Bring it down guys, we're rooting for you.

forum alts are for people who like to say dumb crap on the forums without any way of backing it up with actual experience

"okay thanks for your opinion on supercarriers, it's worthless though because I'm just assuming that you're a worthless miner"

npc alts have no opinions worth consideration

Wrong and you knows it.
Goons are unique. Most alliances will emorage if thier members post here with thier mains. Most alliances see the forums as free intell to CCP, the enemy.

It's quite a trip to be one of thousands and talk of experience like you yourself are the one amongst them with the divine right of opinion. One amongst the maelstroms and his is the best.

Hi. I'm Esan Vartesa. Yes, that is a pseudonym that I use in Eve Online.

But in Eve, I am Esan Vartesa. In Eve, you can chase Esan down, gank him, wardec him, grief him, etc.

So while Esan protects the real person controlling him, all value and accomplishments in Eve are entirely invested in him. As such, there is risk in being a total ******.

Hi, I'm NPC-corp alt 274408. Yes, that is a pseudonym of a pseudonym.

In Eve, I'm not actually NPC-corp alt 274408. That character has never actually undocked, so you can't chase him down, gank him, wardec him, grief him, etc.

So while I protect some other character that in turn protects the real person controlling him, all investments and accomplishments in Eve are in no way invested in NPC-corp alt 274408. As such, there is no risk in being a total ******.

This is Eve. No risk without reward.

Well put.
And it would make sense if such replies as the one in the OP was not wrote to nearly anything, even an question about mechanics. Or some ideas.. Even tho those ideas are bad, and comes from ignorance about EVE mechanics etc. I found it better to try to enlighten the person about his "possibly" wrong approach rather than calling for "post with your main"
Altho i alone dont have any significant knowledge about anything EVE related. Or i know that there are many people with far superior knowledge of many things in game.

And I am actually Jaroslav Unwanted in game.

To be fair from what I've seen goons are quite welcoming of new members, as long as you aren't an idiot. If you know any of them, can get a recommendation or are already a member of SA they're a great alliance to join.

Just because some idiots get scammed every now and then doesn't mean everyone will get scammed if they apply through the correct channels. And I can't emphasize this bit enough, not being a total idiot really helps.

The other part is most of the time the sockpuppets are posting contentious or things against gameplay. Somebody using multiple sockpuppets can use it to make a situation more volatile.

Also they use those multiple alts (sockpuppet's) to help give credence to their statements basically by overpowering the discussion, flooding it with multiple comments from those alts all posting in agreement while also attacking the opponent thus giving the illusion that their statements are factual when it may or may not even be factual. Basically it's sorta like a yelling match with the intention to drown out the other player and control the discussion in some demented idea to appear superior, just another form of cyber-bully.

Is why I post as my main. When I say something in forums, people know where I am coming from, and also should people want to debate, I can say take it to me in game.

Unfortunately you don't even have to say 'Take it to me in game' because they'll probably be looking for you anyway. Especially if you had bruised their ego by proving they were talking out their ass. This is another reason why they use the forum alts, they won't have to worry about repercussions resulting from their actions.

if you post with an NPC forum alt it means you're scared of consequences in a video game which makes you both stupid and a coward and thus your opinion is immediately discredited hth

Perhaps it would be better to consider the content of the post, rather than whether or not it is composed and posted by an alt.

People seem to be missing the primary purpose of NPC alts, it allows people to make an argument from authority despite not being an authority on any subject.

Example: NPC corp alt #20025 is arguing over null sec mechanics changes, he will inevitably claim to have been playing since 1984 and have over 9000 confirmed kills. Two sentences later he will demonstrate that he does not understand how bubbles work.

This is, sadly, not a rare occurrence. Calling for NPC corp alts to reveal their main in cases like these is not done to allow us the opportunity for in game reprisals, which quite simply are too much effort, it is done to get the idiots to shut the hell up and stop bad poasting.

Granted that may happen once in a while but usually the sole purpose of wanting to know the main character is so they can exact some type of revenge, thus thinking they have won some great battle. After their revenge is completed, they'll usually post the killmail here in the forums in a vain attempt to cause humiliation. Those actions are intended to berate, demean and ultimately silence that player.

So, you're hiding, behind a computer, on the internet and you lack the testicular fortitude to defend your stance on a subject because someone may disagree with your opinion? You're already behind a fake self, on the internet. Of the hundreds of thousands of people on the internet, you're afraid that someone will take your bad posting and come after you, in a video game.

You don't see anything really wrong with this, like, in real life?

There's a yo-dog meme in here somewhere.

Yet, I've seen many "mains" posting dumb crap, claiming they have experience.

I knew a few super-capital pilots, for example, that would preach how you are "supposed" to play Eve, but were caught, several times, ratting in supers.

No comment on whether said pilots are still in or affiliated with your alliance. Blink

^^ Posts like this are also a good reason to use alts. LOL
