Its a bit pathetic that all we've seen in this thread is childish alts of goons (who presumably got banned for badposting long before). Any time they are faced with an actual argument they run for the hills and roll on their bellies and call in the alt-tastic unfunny smear brigade.

But the fact remains, Eve online as a game needs to move beyond this rubbish really. If we're to keep the no-holds-barred brutal in-game reality we've grown fond of then certain kinds of out of game RL personal attack rubbish needs to be ruled beyond the pale.

I don't mind goons in space suicide ganking people.
I don't mind goons trying to scam the credulous.
I don't mind goons blobbing and bubbling and generally making themselves unpleasant in 0.0.

Thats all gameplay end of the day.

My issue is with those goons who have such a tenuous grasp on reality that they believe making out of game attacks on the RL identity and livelihood of in-game enemies is part of Eve's grand tradition of "meta-game".

These guys are the most pitiable creatures on the internet really: the mouthbreathing unwashed basement dwelling poison-pen spewing self-hating cybernerds in the spotlight.

And anyone who wants to see Eve online remain a full on pvp game (rather than getting over-sanitized in knee-jerk response to the frankly insane antics of a few dozen internet madmen) should join in condemning this behaviour without reservation.

The real question of all this is "who is griefing who" when RL attacks and OOC harrassment become the norm of Eve metagame. One might think its an easy question to answer with "well its the victim isn't it?" But the reality is more complex.

The consequence of Gianturco's behaviour at fanfest this year will likely be that nobody gets to drink in public at future events and talk about Eve in a relaxed manner of comradely intoxication.

The consequence of Goonswarm Cyberbullying and ooc harrassment will likely be that somebody ends up dead and Eve will pay the penalty of being flayed in the press.

The consequence of SA culture dominatiing Eve culture is that this game community is seen as a poisonous snake-pit by the gaming media and other MMO players and rather than respecting the "core game" harshness and admirable difficulty level of Eve, they end up despising the petty-minded vindictive bully-culture laden with sexism, homophobia and racist frat-boy antics that would make most student campus societies call for expulsion.

Goons once were rumoured to have come to Eve to "destroy the game".
They refined the message to we're here to "destroy your game."

Ironic that the latest target group for destruction is the hard core gamers who want to play a full-tilt full death penalty open world MMO without crossing the line into Cyber-bullying, Internet Harrassment and outright out of game criminality.

I'd like to blame Jade Constantine and the Jericho Fraction for the numerous incidences of real-life harrassment, appropriation of personal pictures and DDOS attacks on community websites that GoonSwarm leaders have faced over the years. This includes death threats, intimidating phone calls and threats against family members and pets.

I make this accusation with the same amount of evidence as Jade makes his, which is to say absolutely none whatsoever.
