CCP picked the wrong console.

Wrong console, wrong company.

Sony - one of the most vile, despicable companies on this planet has been literally bending their customers over every single chance they get for the quite awhile now. Look at the PS3. They removed the backwards compatibility for one reason, so they could "remake" older games and resell them for more money.

Now, look at the rumors for the PS4. Absolutely no backwards compatibility. It looks like they are trying to completely destroy the reselling of games because games now require you to log in to PSN. If you resell, the person that buys the game will not have complete access to the game because the key is locked to the original owner's PSN.

Imagine if this worked with cars. You buy a used car but since you aren't the original owner the brakes won't work, ever. Have fun!

How does this bode with Dust514? When CCP ports it to PS4 will they continue support for the PS3 version or are we all going to get screwed once again?

How could you partner with such a reprehensible company CCP?

Xbox > We're sorry but you cant use your third party voice IOP you must use the microsoft only voip.
We're also sorry but every patch you put out will cost 10k usd.
We're also sorry you cannot patch daily to fix exploits.
We're also sorry you cannot connect to outside networks.

dont ask about our failed experiment with this either.

PS4> Cool so you guys say you can get the game coded in something I can understand? Awsome, well see about keeping the policies the same and the door open for you!

Volkswagon > Why do I have the worst used car ratings in the industry? si there some sort of magical switch that makes me a shoddy car after I leave my original owner?

Dust 514's CPM 1 Iron Wolf Saber Eve mail me about Dust 514 issues.

So who were they gonna go with? Nintendo?

Microsoft was too anal about controlling everything to let CCP do:
-Free to play
-Connectivity to TQ, kinda vital here
-Free expansions and patches

That and since Dust is F2P redownloading a new version shouldn't be too bad. CCP likely already has plan for the PS4. Since they are using a standard engine like the Unreal engine they probably won't have much technical work to do and will simply be updating graphics. If the PS4 uses the same PSN then not a whole lot of technical changes here either.

To this end, CCP has already stated that Dust will be cross-compatabile.

That said, I agree if only because as a both a PS3 and 360 owner, the PS3 has a dismal online experience. The UI for social interaction over PSN is clunky, counter-intuitive, cumbersome, time-consuming, and downright unpleasant to use when compared to Xbox Live.

Who is the alternative? Microsoft?

The original plan was multiplatform for xbox and ps3 to both connect. However microsoft wouldn't let CCP use their servers and protocols outside of Xbox live gold. After debating it, sony said that they won't require members to have the premium so anybody could play on their PS3 as well as other support. PS3 exclusive because was the only console choice.

People really suck with analogies.

PS3 doesn't allow backwards compatibility.
Ironically enough your choice for the analogy also doesn't use backwards compatibility.

To do your analogy properly you would have to say it is like buying a 2012 Dodge Charger and not being able to use parts on Chargers from the 70's and earlier.

If you want to use the malfunctioning brake analogy then try talking about buying a PS3 from somebody on craigslist and finding out the tray won't open or something.

Because Microsoft dictates to CCP what they can and can't do in their game. Sony gives CCP the freedom to create whatever game they want.

Of course they say this for now. How many people would have bought a PS3 for Dust if CCP said the second PS4 comes out we're done with PS3?

last time I checked the PS4 isn't out yet, or is even announced, and everything are just rumors at this point. Incidentally, the rumor has it that the next xbox will be doing exactly the same thing. The backlash against the used-game market is a broad gaming industry trend, not something that's strictly Sony as you seem to be implying here.

Sony was the only company that would allow the network interaction that enables Dust and Eve to talk to one another and be part of the same universe.

You can always keep your old PS3 and play games on it, you know.

yea, because PS4 is going to instantly phase out PS3 just like PS3 had instantly phased out PS2...oh wait, it didn't.

you don't get it, going with MS means there IS no Dust514. There would be no link to EVE, nada, nothing, zero, which will just turn Dust into yet-another-scifi-fps

Stopped right there.

CCP didn't "pick" the console.

They approached both Microsoft and Sony at the same time wishing to have DUST work on both systems at the same time and Microsoft said no. Long before it was announced as a PS3 exclusive I and many others had stated that Microsoft would never allow it. Microsoft has to control everything that goes through their console using LIVE. They do not let developers use their own servers for anything, not to mention they don't allow anything to go through LIVE for free.

If you want to blame anybody for your favorite console not getting used for DUST, blame Microsoft. Then switch over to reality and realize that of the two platforms the PS3 is a superior one and far better for DUST anyway.

Still should have been made on PC either way but that is a whole other matter that has been beaten to death.

On reselling games, xbox can be bad too.

Many games now come with a one use online license. For example, saint's row the third or many ea sports games.

If you buy such a game used and the original license has been used, you must pat an extra 800ms points to play online.
