I was wondering how effective a target painter would be on a high alpha sniper setup, like a tornado.

My question is if the guns and target painter are both "hot" and fire immediately upon locking a target, will the target painter work on that one shot?

With missiles it does not matter if the shot was fired before or after the target painter was activated, only whether it is active on the target when the missile hits.

Also before someone mentions it, I'm looking at this from a min/max scenario where a tracking computer would not be better in the slot since the snipers may be remote linked with a scimi etc..

Sniper? A TP doesnt have close to enough range to use for sniping and tracking shouldnt be a big issue.

Artillery and target painters go very well together. I used to fit one on an arty Mael to mission with. Later I put one on an arty thrasher for anti-interceptor work. It's noticeable. Having said that I'm not sure I'd throw one on a tornado.
