If your ship dies but your pod is still in Space inside the system you appear on the mail as a Capsule.

It often happens - most of the time it's just what Alara said. The ship doesn't need to die though - in this case that occured with a raven playing docking games, I fired a volley, warped off to another station to park my bomber and warped back to said station in a pod to reship into something I had inside.

At the time he died, I was in the system and on grid in a capsule...

Autocannons ofc, they are so easy to fit even pods have them.
