Each client starts extra copy of cmd.exe?

I just noticed a new (or did I just fail to spot it before?) behaviour in the Crucible 1.6.2 client: each client that starts also starts an extra copy of cmd.exe that runs as long as the client runs. It looks ugly, seems unnecessary and takes up valuable RAM (in Win 7 64-bit cmd.exe takes about 1.7 MB and the subprocess conhost.exe takes another 2 MB). I noticed the same behaviour both in Windows 7 64 bit and Windows XP 32 bit.

Further testing showed that the extra cmd.exe runs if I run Eve.exe. However, if I run either Launcher.exe or ExeFile.exe, no extra cmd.exe runs.

Is this extra process really necessary?
