Listen up little girls. You need to quit twisting your knickers into bunches and really get over youselfs for sure.

WHATEVER was said on some ENTERTAINMENT show about some dumb little kid goon was just that, a joke. Lighten up and chill francis and francises.

Now what this CSM rep did is irrehensible. To urge someone in a unsound state of mental health to off themselves and then to urge his legion of hateful followers to do the same, is crossing the line. What if he had done that? What would you do then? Thats right you would laugh at it, you think this is all one big joke. You make of so many people in your little insulated bubble that you fail to grasp that the rest of humanity doesnt devalue life like you do. Life isnt a video game. And its time for you goonies to grow up.

So lesson of this story created by dumb goons, DO NOT CROSS THE LINE.

If you goons got your feelings hurt. Tough, get over it. This is EVE online, cold harsh space. You will find no sympathy here, just some hot lazer action.

He got lucky he only gets a 30 day ban. He deserves a permaneant ban. And so do all you goons who support this craziness.

So in closing, GROW UP GOONS and quit CRAING MOAR cause the SS TEERBUS is getting FOOL.

Don't CSM what you can't afford to loser.

Well to be honest it seems to summarise what happened pretty well.

But more than that, it also seems a decent summary of goonswarm out of game tactics against their enemies in Eve Online.

I've got a great one, although not targeted at you

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defamation

That's what Massively did. And Jade, you can hate the character and the player all you want. But if you can't rationally examine what happened during fanfest, and since, I feel sorry for you. The only person who's real life has been negatively impacted by all of this is The Mittani - it's his RL name that's been dragged through the mud. Although I guess it's not cyberbullying because he's a goon, right?

I'd like you to show us the real-world names, faces, and contact information that the Goons are spreading around the internet, defaming or bullying people with.

I would be interested to see the court case really.

Would certainly be a landmark case and quite a high risk strategy for Alexander Gianturco to try to sue for defamation when the video of his behaviour at Fanfest is in wide circulation.

Alex never used The Wis' first [real] name.

1. Yes this incident got blown out of proportion. At least part of that was because Mittani went public with it himself, in blogs and interviews.

2. The public at large is not likely to see the difference between in-game bullying and out-of-game bullying. It's all cyber bullying to people who don't know how the game works.

3. If Mittani wanted this issue to be quiet, all he had to do was take his punishment and shut up. Helicity Boson took his punishment with more decency than I ever expected he would. Mittani had the same choice.

4. Instead, we had Goons all over the forums swearing vengeance and blood. To people in the game that was nothing new. To people outside the game it looked different. It looked like a bully and his gang of thugs were planning a rampage.

5. Test Alliance immediately declared war on the player whose name was mentioned as having mental problems. That looks pretty much like bullying to everybody, in-game and out.

6. Mittani did not apologize and leave CSM. He apologized but tried to keep his seat on the CSM. That made his apology worthless to most people.

7. Eve is full of what appears to be cyber bullying to most people. It takes a knowledge of the game itself to understand the context for all that crap you goons spew constantly. And you are certainly not the only people who do it. The public at large, including the gaming semi-professional media, would see much of what goes on in the game as akin to cyber-bullying.

8. CCP is on record as supporting a cold, dark, harsh game. To a lot of people that is going to sound like a company setting out to create a culture of cyber bullying. And in many ways that is exactly what the talk has yielded.

9. Goonswarm is famous for meta-gaming techniques that go outside the game - the recruitment websites, for instance, that yield lots of scams. I'm sure other alliances do the same thing. So there's no real defense that the apparent cyber-bullying stays nicely inside the game. It does not.

10. I forgot number 10.

This issue got loud not just because Goonswarm enemies made it happen; Mittani sought publicity to defend himself when he should have shut up and taken a much needed break from the game for 30 days.

You have players on the forum from the Goon side swearing to kill every new player they can in order to harm CCP and drive new players out of the game. This sounds like more cyber-bullying.

This game was founded on the ability of the strong to bully the weak. The fact that this behavior takes place mostly in game is not going to make a difference to the public. It will all sound like thuggish behavior.

Perception is reality as far as the public is concerned. You can't take back calling somebody a cyber bully, especially when there is so much reason to believe the charge.

You can say the number 10 is that he complains about threats to his family because his IRL name is out there. Then proceeds to Drop someones real name left and right in an interview, after saying how crazy people on the net can be etc. Only thing I can think of and reason to do that was so that said person would also get threats?

Running for CSM involves giving up one's internet anonymity. I have done it (hence you know I'm known as Andrew Cruse irl) and Alexander Gianturco has done it. So don't attempt to legal-shizzle me with your voodoo nonsense please.

As I noted elsewhere the person who claimed to reveal Alexander's address on the eve-radio channel tonight was very bad. They got petitioned (and I understand) dealt with. Whether it was the real address or just troll is irrelevant at this point. Metagaming should leave people's rl out of in-game conflicts.

Which is precisely the point I was making with the goons continuing the use of a troll url that was created specifically to attempt to get me in trouble with my rl employers in 2008. If you want to join me in opposing the abuse of eve players via ooc harrassment then by all means join me in condemning such things without partizan boundaries. Otherwise your opinions become quite suspect.

Also see the case of the CCP employee (the former Goon) whose real name was broadcast on a Youtube video and people then dont get banned here for saying it. So its NOT JUST poor lil Mittens getting this treatment

I do gotta say though, Goons and Mittens can give lessons in spin to real world politicians.

And again with him actually being a lawyer supposedly, he should know the "I was drunk" defense isnt one.

Edited the OP with a link to the podcast version of last night's show, you can also click here:

http://eve-radio.com/news-compendium/eve-radio/1616-funkybacon-deals-with-mittani-podcast

I also wanted to take a moment to respond to a handful of people accusing me of "fluffing" The Mittani.

My style of show in cases like this, is to get in contact with as many of the parties involved as possible, and to create a first hand, civil discussion where listeners can gain an understanding from the people directly involved, and come up with their own opinions.

I ask questions, some my own, some from listeners, and then sit back, shut the **** up, and LISTEN. I don't generally appreciate today's sensationalist media full of talking heads trying to yell over one another and making asses of themselves on live television, radio, or whatever. I certainly can't stand anyone passing themselves off as a journalist (ESPECIALLY paid ones) that make sloppy reports, with little fact checking, or due diligence to make sure they've got the story straight.

If my decision to allow someone to explain themselves to you over verbally beating someone's brain in offends you, I'm sure there are other outlets where you can get coverage suitably slanted to your preconceived views. If you like to hear more than one side of a story so you can think for yourself and make your own opinion of involved parties, I hope we were able to deliver suitable content to you.

I don't think its very civil to have someone complaining about being harassed IRL turn around and start giving out someones IRL name all over your show in a way that was inviting harassment. You let your show become a vehicle for harassment of another person by not saying at least saying NO to that. Thats not cool.

And most of the questions were what the softball part. The tone was one of clear biased support for the mittani almost from the get go. At least next time try to be a little neutral.

Mittani only went on the show because he knew it would be a cake walk to push his agenda.

But I'm willing to bet my clone that that isn't what you meant.

Unaccountable? many asked for interviews.

And Eve Radio never challenged his misrepresentations they let them all slide.

It was nothing more then them giving him a platform to bully someone into submission because he didn't agree with them or there take on the situation. And worse he did it with more bullying by name dropping a persons IRL name with the intention of causing anguish and grief. Mittani offered up his name when he joined the CSM and was at the center of the story. He was trying to drag another persons into the situation using his IRL name in a very duplicitous way. Its disgusting.

Just because someone else comments about an already ongoing story does not mean he should be name dropping the persons name left and right saying he is doing it to apply pressure to the person. This is rather disturbing that now eve radio is complicit to a degree in even more bullying on the part of the mittani.

Dont agree there is comment feature on the story. Plus you can contact the writer for a retraction etc. You dont say," hey Im getting harassed in real life cause of this, here is this other guys IRL name who just wrote a story I dont agree with, cause two wrongs totally make a right. "

The cyber bully tag was appropriate.

Yep. Heard the podcast. It went something like this:

Yeah yeah, inciting someone to commit suicide is bad, yadda yadda. But you know what's worse? My name being associated with cyber-bullying. I mean, if I had to get a job this would affect me for a very long time, I mean, yeah committing suicide and being dead sucks, but why aren't people thinking of how this negative press would affect me? You owe me an apology. He owes me an apology. Everyone owes me an apology. Unless you're a goon, meta-gaming is bad, so don't do it, mkay?... Unless you're goon. Then it's OK. mkay?

He calls the incident a "drunken mistake". Even though it was premeditated. [sigh] Some people just will never learn.
