Goon controversy

I'd like to talk about all this controversy lately regarding the Internet Goons. I hear that some things were said. Let's begin the healing process by laying out our emotions on the table, so we can maybe sort through how we feel and maybe make some sense of how our relationship has become so rocky.

I'll start by posting. I'd like to share that maybe I feel a little violated, and a little hurt. Some confusion too. We (Goons) have always put a lot of stock in our representation on the CSM, and now that our great hope has been extinguished we feel a little... rudderless... if you will. Who will we look to? We have hard times ahead, and I'm fearful that without our Dear Leader's CSM representation his potency will suffer, his vision remain fallow and stunted. I've looked to my friends and family for support, but sometimes what we really need is to network with others in the same situation.

So my fellow pods, I've noticed a dearth of suitable threads for discussing this issue. What's your opinion?

Surely in an organization as large as GoonWaffe there must be a decent leadership structure to save from being thrown into irrelevance in a mere 30 days. An up and coming #2 looking to make a name for themselves.... the capable steward....

I am saddened that Dear Leader's grand vision for the future of eve has been struck down due to the outrage of a few.

I don't think that's the case, and I think it's an over reaction to say that. Going and making Jita burn when he comes back will be interesting. Honestly, I hope he survives the next 30 days in RL ok and comes back. There's alot of reflection that can happen in that time frame and maybe he decides that after all the harassment that has rained down from his actions that maybe internet spaceships isn't worth it. Perhaps taking up a hobby such as pressing wild flowers or something because they don't send threats to him when they are picked... idk...

I think the whole thing has just devolved into an unfortunate tragedy for the primary people involved, and blown up from there.

oops I did it too

Look

There were two incredible public learning moments. First, we watched the alliance presentation where we saw a player beg and beg to be left alone. Then after the presentation, speaker went on to call for players to finish this guy off in RL by continuing to grief him in game.

That is the conversation you need to have.

What is griefing? Why are you doing it? Do you see how this affects your RL behavior now?

We watched on film how ingame behavior leaks out into RL. FREE him? He's in RL as tho that is a prison and he is being kept from his REAL life in EVE?

The lines are really blurry. That you should consider.

And, do I need to point out that you all feel a little bit of what you have been handing out? And now you going to just step it up?

What is this? EVE jihad? Take the 30 days and reflect...that is what the 30 ban is for. I suggest a course correction, but I don't expect it. Good luck with this convo

I can see that you feel exasperated, and I feel the same. Thank you for your positive wishes. What kind of course correction would you recommend?

Thanks for keeping the communication open.

"It's only a game, loser!" is something not just us losers may have trouble with.

Mittens started his apology by saying 'that is not me.' But it was. Everyone in EVE could have done something just as stupid.

First, let's just face that we have proven to the world that gaming can and does cross the barrier into RL, both positive and negative.

If you have a negative long range goal of tanking EVE or every player in it, these events are fairly predictable, so buckle up.

Second, you are known for the most hardcore porn blah blah blah and links. In my opinion, that can help to dehumanize the people in the pictures and then other players flying around you that you see as "them".

So, can we drift without realizing it and then stand up and gank ourselves in RL? Seems so.

The obvious point is uh...obvious. Golden Rule...treating people the way you want to be treated.

I think you simply got unbalanced and the predictable thing happened.

My suggestion? BALANCE and perhaps don't play the game when you are not actually playing the game?

Just trying to get my bearings here, as all of you are.

To talk serious, and I dont do that too often on this terrible forum, we try to enjoy the game as much as possible. having a CSM member ban due to one of his mistake at the alliance panel is bad. I mean: mittens did bad. OK. But some people clearly used that to get him out of the CSM and I feel it was somewhat wrong. The right way to have someone in or out of the CSM is by voting.
Anyway it is done now. We will not complain, we will not ask for re election or other CSMs to stand down.

We enjoy the meta gaming, we spy, we are spied, we leak forums, we are subject to DoD attacks and it is fine.
This time, we have our CSM rep out of its chair and we will deal with it. But I am not sure CSM election and alliance panels will be the same again.

This whole terrible mistake has become one huge blown out of proportion cluster #$@*!

I don't personally believe that he he should have or should be removed from the CSM, as it is a democratically elected position. Impeachment may have been a possibility that would have had to come to a vote which he would have won. Resigning as chair was probably a good thing to do on his part as it showed some contriteness, but removal from an elected position arbitrarily should never happen.

People need to remember as well that like him or hate him was an instrumental part or turning things around after the 2011 debacle with the rest of CSM6. That aside his and the Goons agenda while in game is fine with me as a miner and a player, if anything ya'll add a great nemesis in the universe for everybody to hate and rage about; which is funny as hell most the time.

This can also be a lesson to the rest of the CSM that their roles as CSM's are different than their roles as players. At any rate I wish the Goons luck and continued success and the Mittani a speedy return to the game.
