New Amar PVP Toon - Need Advice

I've been playing eve now for almost a year and so far that time has been spent soley on mining/industry and other hi sec carebear activities. I'm now at the point where I'd really like to get out and expose myself to the PVP low sec aspect of the game without breaking my main toon away from his current industrial focus. So I recently created a new toon on an alt account that I intend to focus on training just PVP skills.

When I original started playing this game most of the races seemed strange to me so I went with something basic like Caldari, but I have since become fascinated with Amar ships... they look so cool with their sleek designs and laserz. So with this new toon I'd like to remain focused on PVP utilizing amar ships.

....So here's my problem. I know nothing about PVP skill training. I figured I would start with just training for Core Compentency Standard, but after that I have no idea what skills or ships I should train for.

Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Thanks guys!

Here are the basics for Amarr. Their ships are capacitor heavy so make sure you train those skills to reduce cap usage. They also favor armor shielding more so keep that in mind

OK, any idea what ships I should train for to begin with?

that depends on what your needs are. If you are in a pvp alliance, you may want to do intys first so you can scout. Can do that in a few weeks. Then move up to a Harbinger

Yeah, lasers are REALLY cap intensive.

Also, always remember to train your support skills - as they will benefit every ship with lasers you'll fly, not just a specific one.

Some of my favorite amarr ships are Navy Omen, Harby, maledictin (uses rockets), punisher (I fly it with AC's), arby + t2 versions (neuts + drones) and the Abaddon.

If you want some casual PvP, take a look at FW. Its kinda like fight club. But with spaceships.

Not Flyinghotpocket's alt. At all.

Faction Warfare is like Fight Club. But with spaceships.

If you want to get into pvp my advice is join a teaching or newbie friendly pvp corp. Like eve uni, or red vs blue. There are a number out there.

Punisher is a great learning ship, you can fit it several ways and learn how the basics of PvP that way. Then, you can step up to a tech two variant (Vengeance fits a hell of a tank, haven't seen anything about the Retri, but its now at least usable). The other route would be heading to a larger ship. Amarrians don't have a great cruiser gunboat (Although with the ship balances, the Omen should be better) but they DO have the Arbitrator. Arbi is another great, versatile boat, but you need drone skills to make it shine. Next comes the Harbinger, which again can be fit a few ways. Shield-nano harbis get good speed and range, but are fairly fragile. Plated or active are probably more your style. Finally, Amarr really shine once you get up to Battleships and larger. Not a lot of solo PvP opportunities for battleships these days, but if you ever go out to null, you'll be all set for blob warfare.

TL:DR; Amarr have good ships for nearly anything, but tend to be a little better in large fleets than small gangs

Arbitrator!

Cheap and well balanced.

Once you have it down get the curse and pilgram.

i'm surprised no one has said to "cross train to minmatar"

Load up evemon and find the Harbinger. Then above that where it says recommended training, throw those along with a good pvp fit into your queue.

Have fun

Just to add the the information those nice fellows above me have put.

From a skill standpoint, your going to be:

  • Armour heavy (Usually buffer fit) - look into Mechanics Hull Upgrades and Repair systems
  • Gun heavy - Small and Medium t2 pulse and beams are your friends, and well worth getting to sooner rather than later, goes without saying Gunnery supports are essential
  • Cap heavy - Amarr drinks the cap fast. Energy System Operation, Energy Management, Fuel Conservation, Controlled bursts, will help you immensely
  • Drones! - t2 scouts are bloody lovely, and there are a couple of drone heavy pvp ships in there. Also a staple for any race so good bang for your buck. Drones 5, Scout Drone Op 5 and Drone Interfacing 3/4 should be on the to do list.

Now onto the funky stuff

  • Energy Emissions 4 - You will have a ulitily high on a lot of ships and some bonused neut/vamp ships. Well worth the investment
  • Tracking Disruption - Again some bonused ships in there, worth having a gander at getting this one.
  • Navigation skill branch - Amarr ships are famously slow. Getting those naviagation skills up will give you a nice boost in pvp performance and arguably survival
  • Propulsion Jamming - Its not fun when your target can just warp away.

Probably forgot some stuff but I'm sure the others will fill it in.

Ships!

Arbitrator is a solid, cheap choice but is drone heavy, have a peak at these fits, they'll give you the jist of what your aiming for:

Harbinger is a damn fine ship, looks good too, more examples.

Your milage will vary while low skilled, but the idea of linking the fits, was to give you a rough idea, not a "OMG YOU NEED THIS RIGHT NOW BEFORE YOU EVEN UNDOCK.

I lied :o
