To ban or not to ban. That's the question.

The Mittani to the EVE community (2012): "Incidentally, if you want to make the guy kill himself, his name is [name]. It's [spells the name]. He has his own corp. Find him." (banned for 30 days only)

I think this comparision is worth an examination.

It's because he is Ginger.

In 1875 in the state of South Australia it was legal to beat your wife with a stick narrower than your thumb.

In 2012 in the state of Rhode Island it is illegal to verbally imply future use of violence against a partner.

I think this comparison is worth an examination.

Harassment in game (regardless of someone's mental state) always comes with the option of walking away.

A death threat doesn't.

Neither does the guy if in his mental state he goes through with his suicidal thoughts. Thats kinda the point.
Also, youre assuming that the person is acting rationally and realizes they have that option. I put the idea that if his metal health is damaged enough that he would be considering that OVER a video game that "just walking away" IE quitting (cause thats the only way he would be able to avoid the cyberbullying) night not be open to him in his irrational thought process

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humour
Quote:
Humour or humor (see spelling differences) is the tendency of particular cognitive experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement. The term derives from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which taught that the balance of fluids in the human body, known as humors (Latin: humor, "body fluid"), control human health and emotion.

The main problem might be, that all people understand something different as "humor".
Making (primitiv) jokes about death and killing people might be funny for some, other can't even get a small smile out of them. And the next one doesn't see it as "humor" at all but as insult and misanthropy.

Over all one important part is missing when something funny is expressed just by text: facial expression

Mittanis problem was, that facial expression isn't controleble anymore when drunken. So even if he ment it as joke ... it wasn't recognizable becouse of his temporare condition ;).

Gingers problem is, that facial expression can't be see via text (except for smilys). So if he ment it as joke .... how should other know it if Ginger didn't use smilys?

Over all for west europe people it isn't funny to make jokes about "killing" or "suizid".
If it is funny for US guys or anyone else on the world ... excuse us EUler ... we can't lought about it.

Why the hell can't I fitt capital repairs or shield booster on an Orca ... it's an CAPITAL ship!

Its wasnt even that. It was a drunken joke made by a guy wearing a wizard hat.

It was an encouragement to harass someone, and this encouragement was made by a sociopath -- while wearing a wizard hat -- and just so happens to have a lot of influence. You may not see the difference, but most everyone else does.

Generally shown by the lack of a perminant ban attampt

I really thought a ban was not warranted until I heard his eve radio interview last night.

His behaviour is still self-interested, conceited and wrong.

He couldn't even bring himself to agree that CCP's 30 day ban of him was deserved.

In his speech to the goons he said "I've been f***** but we'll go on".

I can't see at all how it is that people cannot see past his obviously fake manner and fake apology.

I've changed my mind from 2 days ago, now I think he should be gone for good.

Just because he apologized and stepped down as CSM chair doesn't mean that he has to agree about the ban. And that doesn't mean that the apology wasn't sincere. This is especially considering that CCP decided on the ban all on their own without letting him know when he made his apology.

So he thinks he's been harshly done by when it comes to taking responsibility for his actions?

I see...

It always amazes me that people think that if they pay the restitute that THEY think is reasonable, then everything's ok. As soon as they have to pay more than that, it's a harsh punishment.

You worthless pubbie filth have beaten this dead horse so much that there isn't even any gristle left to bludgeon.

You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world.

Mittani was talking about killing him in-game. He didn't make any real life threats. Nobody can force anyone to kill themselves with imaginary internet spaceships. The other thing that's different is that Ginger Magician was serious and Mittani was clearly joking. He's an alliance leader. If he wanted the guy harassed by tons of people he doesn't need to beg random people at fanfest. He has his own army.

I liked the part where he said the only reason he got the ban was the mislabelling of Cyber-bully on this whole thing
