So the marketing people in CCP have decided that this is a big threat to them and have decided to cave to a vocal few who continued to blow this up out of proportion. In the process, they've now set a precedent for out of game actions to receive in game penalties, thrown away over 1/6 of the CSM votes, and proven the best way to influence what they do is through overblown manipulation of the gaming media. The Mittani did not decline to serve on CSM7, just the chair, the implications of the devblog that this is at all voluntary on his part are a complete fabrication that does not speak well to the professionalism behind this decision, and reinforces that this is a complete PR move.

So where's our re-vote? The CSM7 election results have now been completely invalidated before they even took effect, and if the gaming media doesn't pick up on THAT bit of strangeness they don't care about what's going on at all. If player opinion is to be taken into account at all we need to have another election.

Furthermore, they've just invited a rather vocal group of their playerbase to openly speak out against them on any and every subject available while they're clearly worried about their public image. One has to wonder how that's going to turn out for them, as now really wasn't the critical time for the gaming media to be talking about Dust - much closer to release is. Word of mouth from the beta is likely to carry a lot more weight than the gaming media will at all, especially with a relatively unknown (completely unknown in the console market) developer like CCP, and they've just soured a significant portion of the playerbase to how they operate right before that opens. Removing The Mittani from CSM7 completely while hiding behind implications that this is due to him resigning from CSM 6 when that didn't even happen makes it perfectly clear that CCP doesn't really give a **** about the momentum they've built up headed in a positive direction.

Edit: and CCP allowed the slides for the national anthem singing ransoms to include character names, so so much for them keeping victim names out of the slides for the alliance panel.

The thread should've been 'GSF has made a joke of itself' , but then no one would care.

You're a disgrace to all goons - suck it up and take it like a man god damn it.

Throwing out goons would be best PR CCP could do for players, future players and SONY. I would never invite a friend here as it now stands. Why would I invite a friend to be griefed. Friends don't let friends get bungholed. Why would SoONY with its history of bad press look for more of the same especially when they have a younger audience ripe for cyber bullying suits.

Have courage CCP sacrifice the Goons for the greater good.

Quite honestly, CCP made a joke of themselves long before the current punishment news. For whatever reason, they thought it would be a blast to put a bunch of drunk griefers on a live TV stream from a company sponsored event. Despite any professional common sense that this was bound to lead to trouble, if not this time then next time, they charged ahead with that idea.

This is their main promotional event of the year. But rather than control the message, they allowed it to be completely undermined. We are not talking/raging excitedly about Dust or the next expansion. And even if the blogs and media mention them, that news is now completely buried in the current scandal.

We all understand fan-fest is a drunken good time, and that's as it should be. Mittani has said and done worse in the past, and will do so again in the future. So I don't want to moralize about the event or Mittani's statements. I'm just pointing out the sheer incompetence of CCP in providing every opportunity for a PR ****-up like this to happen.

CCP's whole approach to managing their game, community and PR often looks completely amateur-hour and ensures that this game will remain a niche despite their best intentions. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing - I like the niche - but when threads come up asking why eve is not bigger than it is, you don't have to look much further than CCP management of their own property. Every time they build up a bit of momentum, something else will knock them back.

This whole fething mess is terrible, not for CCP (perhaps a bit though) itself but for the CSM and players a whole. Nobody wanted stuff to spiral out of control like this, but if you do very clearly dumb stuff like The Mittani did on live streaming tv during a "major" event that has been publicized on Major gaming networks not in the least playstation's multi-million network these are the consequences that follow.

Is it good that The Mittani is banned? well its a temp 30 day ban so its not a big deal. Is it good that he lost his CSM seat, no it isn't but they are the consequences of his own actions, not of others. Part of me is still hoping that its a very elaborate April's fools joke, if it is I'll give CCP and The Mittani props for ~flawless execution~.

If you actually wrote this, you should be intelligent enough to understand that your argument is completely invalid. As a Goon, your Alliance espouses Meta-gaming as the endgame of EVE. Your Alliance has proudly used these very tactics to good effect in the past.
Yet now you complain that the tactic that the Goons prefer is not fair?
Did you really think all those alt accounts would make you all powerful?

I'm sorry you feel that CCP and the Playerbase hasn't been fair to Mittani, however I think most people think this is exactly what he and the Goons deserved.

I'm actually going to sympathise with Mittani on this, yes he was an idiot and said stuff he shouldn't have but you know what so what haven't we all at one time in our lives whilst being slightly merry

I think the main problem with all of this and the aftermath is actually more down to CCP "apparent" lack of anything resembling common sense. It really shouldn't have to have got to the point where the screaming hoards a.k.a childish tosspots were throwing their toys out of the pram and the others like sharks in the water smelt blood and jumped on the bandwagon

Considering the state he was in he should have never been allowed to talk at a public event anyway, someone from CCP should have just said "no chance mate, go and have a cup of coffee and we will wheel out some more "Choose your own destiny (as long as you either like high-sec or sucking the balls of some 0.0 alliance) videos

People say stupid stuff when their pissed period. You have a large amount of testosterone fuelled kids, younglings and teens/early twenties adults add to that a spattering of women and booze and then ask people from that group to publicy speak and what did you expect was going to happen? Jesus me and a couple of mates can get into more trouble than that just on a Friday night

What he did, yes was wrong but really is anyone suprised that this hasn't happened already

Anyway what's really going to change? I doubt not much, The strange thing is EVE actually needs the GOONS and RAIDEN/BOB and the other large established power blocs, every good story needs a villans and hero's (obviously depending on your viewpoint
for it to actually work? Imagine how boring EVE would be without all the drama lama's the scam's, the griefing the eternal battle between us and the GSF, this for me is the stuff that makes EVE great.

Don't get me wrong I don't particulary like Goons or what they stand for but if it wasnt for them I wouldn't have anyone to moan about and if it wasn;t for Raiden/ PL etc the Goons wouldn't have anyone to try and nerf so they can beat us Blink [

Me personally the guy was an idiot he's apologised and resigned that's it it's over, CCP really need to take a look at themselves as at the moment they just remind me of some drunken boxer reeling from blow to blow and not actually learning how to protect themselves

God Said "Come Forth and receive eternal life!" I came fifth and won a toaster!
