New Player Experience: ganking awareness

I've been thinking about suicidegate and one of the issues which arises from it is that players who live in high sec often feel safe.

It's perfectly understandable that if someone does their own little introverted thing in some quiet corner they come to expect to be left in peace. But of course Eve's not really like that, it's just the deceptive surface under which lie the sharks.

So let's think about the New Player Experience. Let's put something in that scares new players and makes them realise they're in trouble.

Here's my suggestion:

At the end of one of the 10 mission advanced tutorial there's a plot event. A cutscene could be good or a popup message. The newbie has annoyed some NPC pirate and gets an angry rant followed by the placing of a bounty on the player's head. It shouldnt be large enough that people start to farm it with alts - a million isk is probably enough.

So all new players would start the game with a bounty - anyone who kills them gets a million isk.

I think it would be both fun, enhancing the new player experience, and a necessary warning of your lack of safety. It's important we solve the problem of people thinking they're safe in space for the protection of vulnerable or depressive players.

Oh and another thing I've just thought of. If you claim 100 bounties you get a medal from the pirates, maybe Sansha. Not game-altering, it's just a vanity effect that shows on your character. Only bounties collected outside the new player systems count. That should get the veterans interested in educating the new people.
