Starting out in EVE as a carebear, I truly could not understand why destroying someone else's ship (my beautiful hulk!) was someone else's idea of a good time. I raged. I quit. I came back. I mined some more

Five+ years later, a ship is just a pile of trit to me. If I lose one, I get another. It's a game- pixels on the screen plus time. (My brother's deletion of my Final Fantasy VII saved game was far more traumatic. I think he'd make an excellent Goon.)

Time played in EVE is more than skill points accumulated. There has been a definite progression for me as a player from carebear to ganker and pvp'er. As an inexperienced player, the wider world of EVE was unknown and unfathomable. Even now I realize I am just beginning to grasp the bigger picture and the scope of the politics, as well as the refined abilities needed to play effectively

The above may sound meandering and laborious, but it has a point- not all players understand all aspects of the game. Without a certain degree of knowledge in some areas, the actions of others is inconceivable or even reprehensible

In this particular instance, as I watched the Fanfest stream live, my opinion of the panel shifted from amused to disgusted to simply bored. I felt no irritation or outrage at the language. I was amused at the ransom singing. Bored by corp charts, I would have liked more politics. I wasn't a fan of the drunk rambling, but that was because its rarely amusing to watch drunk people while sober. And in the end, I was amused by the Mittani's posting of the carebear tears his ganks produced. It never once occurred to me that anyone would send such a lengthy letter to their ganker if they were, in fact, suicidal. if you're depressed, why reach out to someone who has clearly demonstrated an obvious lack of caring? Instead, I assumed this letter was a troll-like plea, an utterly false attempt to reach whatever deep (DEEP) seated compassion his gankers might have, in a last-ditch attempt to earn compensation for his loss through guilt. I saw it along the same veins of "Please don't kill me, I have seven children to feed!

I am not now nor have I ever been a Goon pet, but I will admit to a certain level of respect for the accomplishments of the swarm. I do not hate or loathe them, nor do I despise any group or Alliance in EVE. Neither would I make excuses for them if I saw something truly offensive to me. As one player of the thousands in the game, I would simply like to say that if Mittani made a mistake, I believe his actions in declining the CSM chair is a respectable one in light of the firestorm and backlash caused by non-ganking pilots' lack of understanding of what passes for humor among gankers. Further resignation as a member of CSM would not be in the best interests of his constituents or the game as whole.

Not to mention the real life person he took advantage of in all of this.

Are CSM chairmans not meant to play the game, and best represent the people who elected them?
