Testing Graphics Settings killed my client

I decided to play with the graphics settings to see if I could get some better images with still decent gameplay. So, I set everything to high in the settings menu, and enabled HDR, and I checked the cache box at the top, which gave me the warning that checking it "could improve performance at the expense of memory." I clicked apply. The client then quit.

I assumed this was a result of the graphics changes, so I tried to relaunch. The launch window came up, then the screen went black like normal. But, nothing else happened. I could still see and move my cursor, but no images came up. Also, I couldn't tab back to other applications. I was completely stuck. So I Command+Alt+Escaped to force quit the program, and it did. I tried playing with the cache settings in the launcher, and nothing changed. I still had the same problem. I tried restarting the computer, and nothing changed. The rest of my software seems fine.

I trashed the client and deleted the trash. I then re-downloaded the client. I could not find anything Eve-related in the Preferences, so I figured that I might have gotten it all. I finally finished the reinstall and started the client again. The screen went black again and the game didn't start.

I am now officially worried I missed something in the uninstall or reinstall. If any of the Devs or anyone else has trouble shooting tips or solutions, I am all ears.

Your missing the Pref file that store the GFX settings.

First you need to enable viewing of the library folder. Open terminal and enter the following line

chflags nohidden ~/Library/


Then you need to locate the Eve Online folder and trash it

username/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/

Everything should go back to default settings then.

Above poster is assuming you are using Lion where ~/Library/ is hidden by default, you don't really need to change that permanently though like suggested above. Just open Finder and hit "shift + cmd+ G", then copy paste or type this in there: ~/Library/Application Support

Then trash the EVE Online folder, this will reset all other client side settings as well!

The client will recreate this folder with default settings the next time it starts up.

Yes, I did assume Lion is the OS. However I would consider permanently enabling this folder if this is your main computer for playing Eve. You will find yourself in there often.

Other files you will find in this directory are Overview, chat logs, fittings. Which you may want to back up in another spot on your computer for occasions just like this, and then you can quickly access the location again to replace the files.

As an aside, another option for navigating to ~/Library: In the finder, hold down the option key while opening the "go" menu. Library should now show up between "Home" and "Computer"
