10,000 votes suggest the community isn't ashamed of his behavior at all and wish him to continue.

You mad, bro?

Which is less than 3% by equivalent representation of the EvE community. So it in no way shows a majority view, far from it.

Yes folks you.

I originally answered the apology thread with this, but I think it really needs to be seen and said. There is now publicity all over the place about how vile the Eve Online community is, not The Mittani, the community itself.

In your obsessive desire to see one man shamed and stripped of his voted place in the csm, and maybe because you were on the receiving end of some IN GAME stuff that happened, because in your impotent rage that the chairman you wanted didn't get votes, you have besmirched the whole of the community.

Guess what? No one is squeeky clean, if we look closely enough we see the cracks and the ugly truth beneath the veneer of humanity. You, yes YOU, every one of you reading this has thought or said or done things that someone somewhere thinks is abhorant and disgusting, most likely you have commited a crime of some size in your country.

What defines a community is whether it is quietly pointed out, dealt with and apologised for, or whether we allow our hatred to beat up the object of our hate, burn it and kick it to death and drag it though the streets shouting about it. If you were outraged at what happened, you could have petitioned ccp, or sent some sort of message privately. Some official channel could have been used. Instead you chose sensationalism, the chance to scream your utter horror that something bad was done.

Take a look at what you have all done here, are you proud? You shouldnt be, you should be ashamed of dragging your community around the streets with a burning tyre around its bloody neck, paraded for the rest of the gaming world to see and hate you for. Because it isnt now The Mittani they hate, it is this community, your community. Well done.

The Eve Online community looks like utter **** now, and I blame you. The people who chose to publicly shame our entire community with your behaviour here.

Bullshit. Mittens is the only one to blame here. As head of CSM he is one of the most public figures for the fan base. Even if no one had said anything on here, comments on sites streaming the feed from fanfest mentioned how disgusted they were with his actions. Once he said it is was out there for the entire world to view.

The view that the gaming community in general of EVE has always been a bit negative, and this just reinforces it.

Before I say anything, I just want to point out that what Alex "The Mittani" did that day was wrong and unjust. Thankfully he apologized and the griefed miner in question is feeling better considering that some* of this happened outside the context of the game. Now that such drama is coming to a close, let's set that aside for now and focus on other things.

First off, we don't want to become like them. By "them" I mean WoW, Hello Kitty Online, Runescape, etc. where people have entitlement issues and think they should be 100% safe anywhere all the time. If they want to criticize us for being bastards in this game because we gank miners all year long every year no matter who they are, scam visitors in Jita with a fake Navy Issue Ibis, steal billions of ISK from corporations and alliances, corner the ice market, and shoot at monuments like a boss, etc. then let them criticize us. It's who we are as characters around here as we are all playing within the context of the game. After all, Eve Online's lore is all about being in a harsh universe.

We are what all the other MMOs refuse to accept in terms what kind of characters we are: bastards. Eve Online is our home. If we are seen as trolls, then so be it. But this is our home, not theirs. At least we're not telling them how to change their game or live it.

EDIT: * changed "all" to "some" as it didn't sound right.

I think everyone one of us has done something similar at some point in our gaming career.

Someone: "This game sucks so bad, Im gonna quit forever!!" You: "Do it then faggettt!!! Gief me all your stuffs too!!"
Someone else: "Don't gank me plz, I am new and poor!" You: "HAHAHA EVE IS TOUCH ***** BACK TO WOW!!"
Another guy: "I hate my life, my dog died, and I lost my job" You: "I banged your wife while asking your boss to kill your dog and fire you, life is tough, HTFU"

I'm not for or against Mittens in this, just saying this is not the first time this has been done. Yes this is the first time it has been done publicly by someone drunk. All the people who hate Goons so passionatly that they **** up the forums every chance they get with another reason why their thinly veiled hate should be enforced is getting pathetic. Maybe the focus shouldn't be on Mittens but the people who are so wholly obsessed with Mittens, Goons, Test, -A-, xDeath, etc. etc. that they SHOULD seek professional help getting over their obsession.

It is really sad that we tout having the best community of players but stuff like this happens on BOTH sides. How come we all get a laugh at someone playing the suicide pity card? How come someone mocking the obvious and pathetic pity attempt gets such an outpour of hatred? Jesus guys, 5 months ago we were on the precipice of all quitting over the percieved threat of microtransactions making our game Pay-To-Win and the threadnaught didnt get to 100 pages for a few days. 3 "media" outlets got tipped, probably by rabidly obsessed haters, and now all the sudden we are doomed? Grow up or GTFO, WoW is that way, can I have your stuffs, pics or it didnt happen, U mad bro?, etc etc.

You see, this is the problem, this thread isnt about goons or mittani's it is about us. And yet, here it comes around again, still shatpoasting about goons because, because what? Why does every thread become a place to say how bad goons are for everything?

Its obsessions and hatred of goons that has brought this about, not because of what was done.

Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

EDIT:

Goons will be goons. But of course, you are right about some things going too far. If it's just that why all the other MMOs are complaining about, then it's just a simple case of encouraging proper etiquette. Other than that, if the complaint from MMOs are game-style related like scams and theft, they should GTFO.

This isn't a result of the recent drama, people have thought that about Eve for years.

You will note that those people aren't laying those comments on the community because they are disgusted by the actions of those criticising the Mittani. They are viewing the community through the lens of the Mittani's actions. What you are trying to do is blame the people who are criticising the Mittani for the image The Mittani has given the game. This is poor reasoning on so many levels that it would actually be painful to recount the kind of analogies necessary to show the awfulness of what you are implying. But we can start with: It's not the war criminals in the Congo's fault that the Congo has a terrible reputation. It's the fault of those who complain and bring the actions of these people to the attention of a wider public. Of course, there is a degree of causality and, thus, causal responsibility but the idea that these are the people to blame rather than the people who commit the reprehensible acts is about as weak as they come.

People who don't actually play EVE complaining about EVE. Additionally, the only reason this is even in the news is that people like Ammzi, who are willing to do absolutely anything to try and get an in-game advantage are blowing the entire thing out of proportion and spinning what comes out of it to try and discredit a democratically elected community figure.

The reality is that the individual who was the subject of The Mittani's comment couldn't give a flying **** about it and nobody was particularly interested in ganking him, but with people constantly drawing more and more attention to it anti-anti Mittani people are now motivated to harass the crap out of him to punish him for giving people ammunition against the mittani.

It's not about actually being offended, or about doing the right thing, it's about trying to exploit other people to gain advantages in the game.
