Ok so with my current schedule, I can only really log in every other day. I want to start PIing due to the low maintenance of PI. Should I go for more of a resource gathering setup? Extracting P1s and selling them. Or should I go for more of a factory set up where I am just building the later tiers? Thanks in advance!

but 7day runs producing advanced materials
[say 2 Extractors + 4 BiF + 2 AF]
may give you a good spread on a variety of planets

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

It partly depends on your skill level and where you are doing PI. Is this hi-sec (worst case) or w-space/null space?

But for a quick answer w/o a lot of info, running factory planets generally require a lot of market activity and/or transporting through multiple systems. Extracting usually just involves a bunch of clicking and some hot-spot checking, with occasional transport trips to Jita with product.

I run PI with alts in a wormhole. I have the extractor programs on 4 days cycles, which just happens to balance out almost perfectly the extraction rates and the processing capacity (P0->P1) on most planets. I log in every couple of days to move stuff to launch pad, to POS, or to my factory planet (P1->P3). I could give up a little more extraction and add some storage capacity and the whole thing could be self sufficient for 4 days...right now, w/o silos, my LPs start to overload and I have to make sure I move up to CO.

Sorry, I plan to do this in W-space. I havn't trained any skills as I want to see if I am able to AFK PI, but I plan on training relevant skills to IV. Thanks for all the responses so far, I suppoe I will start with some extracting and keep progressing depending on my schedule.

pretty much what I do

sometimes I log in a bit more, but typically at least every other day is enough. I also use 4day cycles. Give it some time to figure out how it works.

Little bit of advice from what i've learned: start stuff up, check it in 15 minutes or an hour or what have you, to make sure you did it right (everything is moving from point A to point B as you designed it). Can't tell you how many times I've started stuff up and found I'd forgotten a link, to change a factory to a new schematic, etc.
