as in goonswarm shrugged, what else is new?

TA on wis: "when we have a feature that is its own functional ecosystem of gameplay then hooks into the greater ecosystem of EVE as a whole, and it provides good replayability."

This is a good illustration of the concept that I call, The Goon's Burden, the God given task of creating player content, in form of strife, drama and conflict, tales that resound throughout the gaming industry. People ask, what is this EVE Online game? How I remember the day when I paid my 500m and was sworn into the Swarm, my recruiting officer asked, can you bear the burden? It is only today I do dare to answer with conviction, Yes.

He's got a bit of a point. Listen to Mr Reid's presentation (less then 3 minutes long.) And look at his credentials:
http://venturebeat.com/2012/01/17/ccp-games-hires-david-reid-as-chief-marketing-officer-as-dust-514-nears-launch/
Quote:

Gearing up for a big marketing campaign, Eve Online game publisher CCP Games has hired David Reid as its new chief marketing officer.
...
Reid previous served as marketing chief for Trion Worlds, GameTap and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 business.

CCP is serious about Dust. And Mr Reid is serious about how "player generated content" is a tremendous selling point of Eve. I'm thinking that Eve might have a chance to remain resistant to undue SOE influences.

Google "David Reid gaming industry" for more random bits.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

Take up the Goon's burden

In patience to abide

To veil the threat of terror

And check the show of pride;

By open speech and simple

An hundred times made plain

To seek another’s profit

And work another’s gain

Take up the Goon’s burden—

And reap his old reward:

The blame of those ye better

The hate of those ye guard—

The cry of hosts ye humour

dude shut up...

let's pretend hypothetically (not meant to be offensive in anyway) that the player Kyle Yanowski is owned by
a Mr. Roger Smith, an accountant 35 years old, married with 2 children living in London.

now would it be just as offensive if I, player name Taiwanistan, spouted offensive slander against the player name Kyle Yanowski, as if I slandered against Mr. Roger Smith the real person?

if so half the players of eve might as well be all perma banned.

You guys really take the eve art of war to heart, and in the process, lose you sense of reality. I wonder, as the goon pr team starts to spin articles and postings, do you believe your own bullshit?

The only thing the goons do to "my game" is raise prices of certain goods every now and then, usually causing me to make more isk. In other words, the goons barely do anything to my game. Quit thinking you're actually important to this game, stupid goon.

Could I live without them? Yeah... pretty much.

Goonswarm charges a 500m entrance fee? This I was ignorant on. I don't know if I consider this smart marketing on the side of your leadership or the dumbest thing ever for you.

It's hardly any spin. When massively's article describes kugu as Mittani's personal blog, and falsely says that he gave out a player's real name, calling them out on their lack of facts isn't "spin".

I love the staple Goon-response. "Your irrelevant." It's as if they condemn those they are most afraid of becoming. Goons, CCP already sucked your **** real long and hard at FanFest, and now you get to see what being top dog is truly like. And as to generating player content, you show hypocrisy in your ingame "evil deeds" and your meta-game WHINING. If y'all are so hard, as you so often like to remind us lowly "pubbies," why all the internet tears? It's as if you'd like to have your cake and eat it too. How's that arrogance tasting now?

I love the smell of FEAR in the morning.

EDIT: Your poetry sucks.

Frogblast the Vent Core! When the W'rkncacnter came, Pthia was killed, and Yrro in anger, flung the W'rkncacnter into the sun. The sun burned them, but they swam on its surface.
