Who gave you the right to speak for the "eve player community" oh wall-of-text producer?

Well I could be flippant and say its because I have 40x as many likes as you for genuine posts or I could say its because I watched Fanfest and got the point of the messaging they were putting out (and agreed with it.) I could well say its because I won the CSM elections previously while most have probably never even heard your name.

But ultimately the answer to your question is because I consider myself a member of the eve player community rather than a a member of some other community that just comes here to troll.

So post count makes you an eve player representative?
Or is it (former) CSM membership? Doesn't that argument mean that The Mittani actually speaks for the *current* playerbase?

The final paragraph gives it away though. You think you speak for the players because, well, you think you speak for the players.

I don't think you Goon defenders actually realise the stakes at play. Do you think CCP will risk millions of dollars just to keep Goons happy? Suppose one day somebody actually does blow their brains out after being cyber-bullied on Eve Online. Not only are you going to have lawyers, police and politicians smashing down your door in self-righteous anger, but all that negative publicity will kill your brand and any projects associated with it. This isn't just about Eve. This is also about Dust, World of Darkness and everything else up CCP's sleeve. Do you honestly think the CEO of CCP will risk his entire company just to appease a handful of asshats?

Risk management. Mittani is a liability to CCP's bottomline. Deal with it.

Thank you for your apology. I think it was sincere.

However, I think those who doubt your sincerity are speaking from a place of "earned mistrust." You have not done very much to endear yourself, and your flippant and dismissive comments earlier have put you into an inherently defensive position.

Assuming you are not removed as CSM chair, I'd like to suggest you remember this incident and use it productively in your leadership role. Your words matter to a lot of people, and braggadoccio and bluster will do more to alienate than to endear.

After reading a bunch of posts on forum, http://liangnuren.wordpress.com/2012/03/26/the-mittani-hero/ and
http://jestertrek.blogspot.de/2012/03/hats.html my conclusion is that even if I do not like The Mittens or Goons, it was stupid to day I still do NOT think he should step down.

To be quite honest this is going a bit overboard... Jita riot?! *bah*

It wasn't during his presentation, it was during the open Q & A after.

The Q&A comment was built on a part of his presentation - where he posted the Mac pilot's mail about his marriage ending, and about him feeling everything was going pear-shaped in his life. The Q&A comment was "You can actually put this guy over the edge - just spam him telling him to do it."

Let's agree to simply refer to both the presentation and the following Q&A as one event.

The point is, as our elected representative, calling for people to join in this sort of out-of-game griefing / cyberbullying was a bad error of judgement, and he needs to resign.

LIkes <> speak for eve community, i can have 100000 likes too especially if i have alts and post more than i play eve lol

I hate goons, but honestly lets get over this now, the "OMG A DRUNK GUY SAID SOMETHING MEAN" is sorta over now lets get back to the game, i mean jesus even WIS isn't making this big of a deal about it, it's the goon hating idiots and the people that are mad there CSM rep didn't win out.

Yes what he did was idiotic, does it mandate him dropping from the CSM i hope not honestly, as he seems to have a good head on his shoulder atleast when he isn't wasted, so can we move on?

The issue here is not what the Mittani said, but where he said it.

The mittani could have said a great many terrible things, had he kept it to kugutsmen or Something Awful there would have been no issue.

I personally do find the comedy in this.

I am more shocked at the mittani's lack of oversite. The issue is he gave this presentation at a officially sanctioned CCP event representing our player elected board thats supposed to guide game development, also The mittani was the chairman of that board.

This is the issue at stake here not what was said or done.

Also where are CCP's spot checkers? Who goes over these presentation before there given? CCP is now caught between a rock and hard place. Either they dont view these things which is a lack of attention to detail, or they implicitly approve of the mittanis comments by giving the go ahead to the presentation.

Yes we of the eve community think this is hilarious. But any outsiders that dont understand our culture now have a huge chunk of missinformation that has CCP's stamp on it.

The "drunken mistake" was his ad-libbing of the material on the slide. He got egged on (or just blithered on) into saying things he hadn't prepared earlier. I'm prepared to believe that he didn't intend everything he did to happen in advance, but all in all it doesn't excuse what he did. You simply can't have a CSM chair and representative of the Eve community who can't hold their drink and acts like that in front of the cameras at fanfest. So my take - sure, he has to resign, but the apology here gets him a second chance as an eve player alongside the rest of us.

His punishment really is the destruction of his professional and gaming-media reputation.

But we don't really buy that.

I see many posts here regarding "you don't like mittani" but have any of you considered WHY we don't like him?

The truth is most of us don't like the guy because he's so obviously a ******* sociopath. He exudes predatory behaviour in all his dealings, all his posts, his alliance, and certainly the way he has treated the wiz. The fact is that most of his alliance's bad name COMES from the fact that predatory behaviour is accepted and even applauded.

The reason people don't like the guy is many of us can see his personality from a mile away - he makes it clear and doesn't try to hide the fact.

Predatory behaviour is the cornerstone of any good sociopath. The reason he overstepped with the wiz is that predators always seek the weakest targets to attack.

I can understand people falling for his campaign of creating perception in the past, but surely you have the brains to see through it now ?

There's no difference here from CCP saying "Oh stalking the women who play is fair!" - it's not acceptable behaviour just because he did it at fanfest. It's not acceptable behaviour ANYWHERE.

Well in opposite to you, he manage to write something sensible. All you do is spew out garbage. Instead, make an attempt to write a good counter argument instead of showing the community your lack of intellectual capacity like 90% of the goons in this thread.

As a member of the Eve community i sure prefer to read his replies over yours, because your replies lack any form of content other than trying to belittle him. Whether i agree with him or not is a different case. However, he has proven on several cases that he knows a bit about Eve. You havent.

Everyone needs to understand that this is not an apology from "The Mittani" this is an apology from Alex. The human being behind the persona. I for one commend your quick response.

Things like this happen in games that are so entrenched in player to player relationships and the myriad of political consequences with such a "diverse" culture of personalities and goals

The real question here is what duty does CCP really have in a situation like this... I can remember back when the guy from Severance made a public apology for racist comments that were made to another capsuleer years ago.

Thank goodness this is real life, I can finally use real life analogies.

If someone robs a home and then returns the items and the homeowner declines to press charges, there's nothing the police can do.

In real life, when both the offender and the victim have moved on, everyone else moves on (except for Fox News).
So move on already (but don't forget... there is a difference).

Well even though I doubt he will see it as we are on page 102 but I just wanted to say it takes a lot of balls to come up and apologize like that. And from the overall tone I would hope that you are indeed sincere about it as even though most realize its a game some view it as an escape from the real world where they deal with that constant bullying on a daily basis.

Now that this is all out of the way move on and kick some ass in CSM 7.

It's pretty telling that only two of the weakest, lowest-vote CSM candidates have spoken out against Mittens, because the rest have the smarts to know he's not going down and that they'll have to work with him.
