From CCP's perspective I don't see how they can come to any other conclusion from their investigation other than the Mittani had pre-organised to make the comments that he did. And any media outlet is going to burn CCP at the stake if they ignore this fact in their PR damage control.

See, that's the problem I have with it. This guy, who is representing both CCP and the entire EVE community, decided way before alcohol was involved to harass this guy IRL. When your in-game character spills that much into RL, it's time for CCP to give you a break.

Mittani must be reprimanded for his severe actions against this poor suicidal person he had targeted to mock and make fun of in spite of his situation.

It is very stange how some would openly allow and feel no remorse for this sick and sadistic behavior exhibited by Mittani. Monsters will be monsters, I suppose.

Would that be be the poor suicidal person that joked about his "I want to die after my divorce statement"?

Or the poor suicidal person who was completely unaware that he was supposedly being "cyber bullied", and could care less about all this nonsense?

Weather or not the person was suicidal is completely irrelevant to the argument from both a legal and PR standpoint.

You do realize he's just resigning the chair right?

And that he can only do so on the suffrage of the other CSM members?

Interesting how now it's just "resigning the chair", and not his CSM position.

I guess since he wasn't explicit earlier this isn't technically revisionism, but I think to pretty much everyone it was implied that he was going to be resigning his CSM position.

We've been lawyer'd, it seems. Interesting.

Regardless of which "side" you are on in this, "people" or "goon", everyone can agree that Alex, tbp The Mittani, screwed up. Even The Mittani agrees with that. See his above apology. Now it's a matter of damage control.

For Alex to leave with any sort of honor, he must resign from the CSM, and soon.

For CCP to get out of this with any sort of honor, they must ban him, because what he did was proveably premeditated, and far exceeds behaviour that CCP has banned people over in the past.

See the problem is, its not just on the Eve-o forums anymore, its starting to spread through the gaming community as a whole.

in order for CCP to save face, they are gonna HAVE TO remove him. Not all PR is good.

Nice apology. Only future will tell if it was enough and in time.

I guess Alex Gianturco has learned a few things here like not appearing on public worldwide TV drunk and that there is a limit to how far you can take the meta-gaming and ingame character.

I do hope he survive this storm as CSM chair. He did stupid but he also got 10k votes and I believe he is good for the game.

Good luck The Mittani.

Right now there are two kinds of people in Eve. Those that get this, and those that do not. The Mittani is gone. Deal with it.

Man, is the gaming community ever in for a rude awakening when they find out that Eve players are sociopathic jerks!

Apology accepted. Inebriated or not what you said was beyond ****-move. That said, goon or not this was a heart-felt apology.

How exactly do you know it was a heart-felt apology?

And I don't mean that like a Goon would. You know, demanding college degrees in psychology and knowing the person for decades and nonsense like that.

I mean in the "have you personally talked with this guy before or after he gave the apology" sense. As in, do I have any reason to believe you or place any credibility in what you have said?

You think we would honestly? Most of our information is coming in through his wife right now amusingly enough (She is a Goon as well, but does not play Internet Spaceships and in fact hates this game). Ultimately the only thing anyone can do from a logical standpoint is take it at face value, hope it's right.

Notrollzone: I honestly don't like Mittens that much, in the real world he's a bit of a hoity toity elitist snob, his jokes fall flat and outside of story time he's not a particularly good public speaker. But in spaceships the man gets results as both the leader of a major Powerbloc and as the head of the CSM. He virtually works magic in seeing the potential in others and putting it right where it can do the most good.

Frankly we're just milking as much effectiveness as we can out of the man before he has a complete meltdown goes fuckgoons and disbands the alliance.

Probably tomorrow when he logs in.

You have to understand, this apology is coming from the same person who runs an alliance that literally finds most of their fun in screwing with people. It's a LITTLE hard to take this apology at face value.

I'd still have to say that I think you should step down as chairman, Mittens. The only way that an apology from a goon can be considered heartfelt and honest is with a gesture as big as that...

Don't worry, most of the alliance thought it was at least vaguely funny in a "holy ****, did he really just say that on a live stream?" sort of way if our jabber was any indication. Mittens really does seem to feel bad about what he said though, he certainly wasn't intending to give out the guy's character name (the slide didn't have it), much less suggest anyone try to get him to commit suicide. Character names of other players were included in the slides of other presentations in the alliance panel, so I guess CCP isn't worried about that, but Mittens seemed genuinely shocked that he'd even jokingly suggested people try to get someone to commit suicide when he found out what he'd said. The only part of this I've seen him even remotely blame on the alcohol is not remembering it happening

Don't worry though, the rest of the goons still think this is completely overblown, especially with the guy seemingly fine and not really bothered by what was said. We continue to be the online assholes we've always been.

Due to the very large amount of people trying to distract from the main point of this thread, I would like to restate what I had earlier posted:

-
No matter how many of Mitten's friends come on here trying to defend his non-excusable actions, the fact remains that this will not be simply smoothed over with his "I was drunk" apology, nor any other. The game politics of who's alliance you are in has nothing to do with this. Mittani must be reprimanded for his severe actions against this poor suicidal person he had targeted to mock and make fun of in spite of his situation.

This sick and sadistic attitude of Mittani's is hopefully not just his "roleplaying as a bad guy" ideals coming out in real life. If this would be the case, it would imply that he is in a deep state of psychosis and is unfit to be a public figure to stress the opinions of multitudes of people. I certainly do not condone this behavior as acceptable. As said before, "The real you comes out when you are drunk".
-

There is no damage control for this.

As long as it is kept in the game. Mittens asked for game actions to happen to get the guy to kill himself in real life. He did not say this on some private forum, or even just here on eve-o. He said this during a live web stream, in front of hundreds of neckbeards at the main CCP event they have once a year.

You guys really, really need to stop defending his actions. This has nothing to do with your terrible forever war in null. So stop making it that way. I bet you any amount of ISK if that was Sir Molle up there and he said all of that, you would be going absolute ape **** over it and demanding CCP take action immediately.

Agreed on the part concerning the issue becoming known in the gaming community.

However he is already in the process of removing himself as chairman.

More importantly, this will actually serve to enhance EVEs reputation as a harsh and dangerous place... likely resulting in an increase in subscriptions.

I'm not judging by making that statement, just stating an opinion based on past observation.
