So a guy mocked a crying carebear playing the sympathy card during 'fanfest' aka 'drinkfest - so what?

If the guy was GENUINELY suicidal, there is no way he would be playing Eve. Having been to the brink myself a few years back - and Im not joking, I was standing on the top of the bridge - a guy who is actually on the brink of suicide would not be playing a computer game, this was just a guy playing the sympathy card, fishing for isk or at least to be left alone to mine. In other words, worthy of being mocked.

Wait, you are saying that a suicidal guy would not be playing a video game and you know from experience because you were at that point. Why are you playing the game?

Either act on it or don't.
End of investigation.

They have to investigate how long this will take to blow over so they can justify not doing anything to their buddy-boy Mittani.

If there are no consequences for this then I think it sends a message that it is fine to commit other hate crimes against minorities and the disabled. He should be banned in game or at the very least removed from CSM.

I see the Mittani / Goonswarm sycophants are out in force. Is it really so hard to admit that the guy messed up? Do you really have to dig the hole deeper?

Weaklings should not play Eve because the Goons and their ilk say so? And if they do, they should just take whatever punishment they get and deal with it? Where have I heard that before. Oh, right, it was on the playground just before somebody's fist caught my nose.

If you can actually justify this guy's showing the eve mail at the forum and inviting the audience to contact him and help him toward suicide, then you are a lost cause. If you don't think he should suffer consequences for this, you are not much of a human being either. What he did was wrong. What the CCP rep did was wrong in letting the panel happen after the eve mail was shown. Sure, we know that CCP can't prevent the use of in-game emails in general. But the fact that they couldn't stop one from being put up at a panel at their own Fanfest indicates they have a lot of thinking to do.

Defending him "just because" tells the rest of us how weak and faulty you are as a person. There is no "just because" that can explain this level of simple cruelty. Mittani did not need to show off this way, it was his choice to do so, even though he should have known better. He wanted to prove what a big man he is, and now he has stepped in it. Or on it.

If CCP lets this pass, then they will confirm that this game is not for decent people to play, even decent people who want to play at being a villain in the game. Is there even one word of apology from Mittani for this? I doubt it, but I'm not going to take the time to read all this stuff to find out.

When I screw up I say so. He has screwed up. Where is the statement that says so? If this were me, I would be all over these forums apologizing. And nobody would have to tell me that I had given up any right I had to run CSM. The only thing this man is fit to lead is lambs to the slaughter.

The day is coming when there will be physical fights at Fanfest over in-game issues. This game raises that kind of emotions in people, and creates grudges in players that will never go away. I expect any game does that to a degree, but this one does so deliberately. CCP has to find some way to say that the behavior is acceptable in the game but not at Fanfest or anywhere else in real life.

This, they still think this is a game and are doubling down on stupid and evil.

They dont realize this has real world ramifications.

CCP cannot let this slide, this is beyond just trolling.

By the way, what is there to investigate here? The panel was taped. It should take about an hour to watch the tape. What else is there to do?

Figure out how to spin this so that they don't have to do anything to their little ***** buddy.

Had any of us started a thread typing out the same words he used at Fanfest, we would have been banned already.

Well, you can't know for sure. But the point of this thread is about how this impacts the image of CCP Games and our image as a player base. It's one thing to act like corp thieves, scammers, and suicide gankers within the context of the game, but it's another to have an elected representative (The Mittani) acting like he thinks he's allowed to encourage what he did at the fanfest alliance panel especially at a time when cyber bullying is currently looked upon in the US, where CCP's major player base is located, as a major issue in social media

We Americans already had several instances during 2011 alone where innocent people were bullied online to the point where said individuals actually committed suicide in real life. Suicide in real life is a serious thing that should never be joked about regardless of what anyone thinks. A life is a life and it's too precious to just throw away

If anyone whines about being ganked in high-sec, I usually laugh about it. But when someone threatens suicide in real life, I stop laughing and start helping the poor guy. The last two things I ever want to see on the six-o'clock news are when someone commits suicide or when someone commits suicide because we, as video game players, encouraged it. I don't want that on my conscious

The entire so-called "investigation" is a facade.

If a public call for in-game harassment of a user resulted in actions that caused the person to commit suicide, most CCP employees along with all the Goons would be ecstatic.

No matter if it was the alliance panel and not directly involving CCP, it was at a venue owned/rented by CCP and as such they would be responsible for whatever happens in it.

Based on what legal precedent?

California Penal Code § 401 - Aiding, Advising, or Encouraging Suicide
Every person who deliberately aids, or advises, or encourages another to commit suicide, is guilty of a felony.

Google: Ex-Rutgers Student Charged With Hate Crime After Roommate's Suicide

There's other States that have similar laws. Are either Mittens man or the other guy a US citizen? I don't have any opinion on this either way but the facts are if any authorities with jurisdiction over this situation take an interest in what happened, simply saying he was "trolling" will not save his ass.

Hey now, according to the head of CCP Marketing Goons are the best players in EVE. So, uh... you're wrong.
