The problem is that Mittens is a CSM, a public face for fans fronted directly by CCP, and as such he is expected to keep up appearances and conduct himself appropriately in particular during public functions. He UTTERLY FAILED to do this at Fanfest 2012. He allowed himself to get drunk on hubris as well as alcohol and presented himself as a hatful, trolling, prick, and through association made CCP look bad. That’s a problem that might bite him in the ass.

CCP already censored the alliance panel repeats to protect advertising interests. How far can this go? I honestly don’t know. He might get canned for conduct unbecoming and end up sitting next to Eva Jobse on the outside looking in. Frankly, she got canned for a lot less but had made enemies. Or, it could be swept under the rug.

It was a party environment but in his case that is no excuse. His CSM chair isn’t just a trophy or toy to show off, it comes with responsibilities and expectations. He may as well have been stupid enough to show up for a court case drunk. You can argue rules all day but ultimately a CSM serves at CCP’s discretion. In this case, there are several rules they could apply to boot him “if they desire.” How annoyed are the higher ups right now? That'll determine his future.

EVE is a ******* game and shouldn’t bleed into real life “griefing.” A guy threatening to suicide over it isn’t to be mocked for in truth he is mentally ill and that’s just not funny. Its loser sad and they can't help it. I am reminded of Asian gamers that log in and literally play themselves to death before anyone notices. It’s the bad kind of sick and that sort of person needs real life help not mail attacks out the ass...

All it takes is for the guy to actually go through with suicide and then CCP would find themselves sued by the parents/siblings/wife/gf. Or the guy himself could actually sue for mental anguish caused. It's well known that people in the US sue for anything under the sun if they think they can cash in.

No matter if it was the alliance panel and not directly involving CCP, it was at a venue owned/rented by CCP and as such they would be responsible for whatever happens in it.

This is my signature. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.  Without me, my signature is useless. Without my signature, I am useless

So it's kind of like the Juggalos magnet thing. When everyone calls you on your stupidity just say you were trolling, and everyone believes it.

Oh wait, no one believes it, and you just look even dumber.

Actually, I think it is suitable behaviour for him. Just sit this out and let his arthropods do a job. He is clever enough to not appear with the usual comments and saying something else will hurt his image.

This is starting to get really old really fast. It's as if people are trying to smear literally anything they can get their hands on, on Mittens.
How desperate can you get? This must be a new level of internet lawyer-dom.

Suicide is not a bargaining chip people; if you have issues -- and even the slightest intention of doing something about it -- you would be seeking professional help, not ~threatening~ people over the internet (of all mediums Straight) with suicide.

Now, I know people aren't angry about this because someone claimed to be suicidal; you're angry because Mittens pulled a 'name and shame' out of his hat and essentially said "go find this guy". It is also debatable which party is responsible; is it Mittens, or is it 'The Wis'? This actually isn't really important in the big picture because both are subject to human nature and chaos (if it can be done, some(one) will eventually do it). Hence we can't blame Mittens for talking about it, and we can't blame The Wis for typing it in the first place.

But here's where the victimization element comes into play:
Of the following, who is easier to feel sympathy and/or empathy for?
Goonswarm CEO "douche bag extraordinaire" The Mittani, or Random-person "poor sod" The Wis?

Your personal choice is probably going to differ from mine, but I'm personally leaning towards Mittens, if only because The Wis used suicide as a bargaining chip. That and I don't have a bad opinion of Goonswar- ah; see...
Right there is the real problem. The people making the biggest fuss about this really just don't like Goonswarm or The Mittani regardless (this is a generalization, apply reason). The real tragedy is that they are using The Wis as a straw man (whether they realise it or not is irrelevant); an excuse for attacks on someone whom they don't like.

I could also be wrong and people genuinely care about and want to defend someone they've never met, talked to, or even cared about before Mittens brought it up. Excuse me if I find that a little hard to believe until someone shows me a documentary about The Wis being a person with actual issues IRL and being unable to deal with them.
If you really care about this person, I challenge you to run a charity to get him professional help and counselling.

Take that as you will; but you should probably just do as the ex-attorney said and

This is a terrible thread, with an even worse topic, inevitably posted by people who just can't let anything slip.
Or maybe it's all a trap taken just a bit too far; nobody knows but Mittens (I'll be waiting for his official statement).

I suffer from BPD with psychosis, I've been suicidal many times, and I find this extremely offensive to me and other members of the community who are also mentally ill.

I wish for him to be removed and form the CSM as I do not want anyone who thinks less of mentally ill people on the CSM, as this is showing him as leading part of the community who he is meant to represent.

I personally do not want him there because of that, and CCP should take appropriate action against him and other players who think the same way.

JamesCLK, that's a very good collection of 'points' Goons have repeated over and over, no matter how many times they've been shown to be incorrect.

The discussion after the article on that site is pretty typical. Yet more people who tried EVE and failed at it finding yet more excuses for why they quit.

People who are mentally unstable probably shouldn't be playing Eve.

If it were a collection I wouldn't bother with the lack of quotes; it is my own opinion and logic.
This really is just a forum war fuelled by hatred or support for The Mittani and I think a big part of it has to do with how much controversy a community-born entity such as goonswarm has been able to accumulate.

Even if Mittens stepped down, the next big goon would step up and assume direct control; and the only thing that would have changed is that the CSM could lose a very valuable chairman. It would literally be in the best interests for CCP, the CSM and EVE as a franchise (and hence us as consumers) if this was swept under the rug and forgotten about (it will be forgotten eventually).

But it's probably too late now; begun, the flame war has (it's a terrible meme, sorry).

Honstly, I hope the Mittani steps down. It was so far beyond the boundaries of okay. At his age, he should know better. Or is he 12?

Edit: Now that I think about it more, how many times has the Mittani called himself an intellectual? Or Said he only takes intelligence seriously? He makes jokes about suicide and then he calls himself an intellectual.
