A little Templar One review

So, I finished reading Templar One (T1). And while I have already had a go at Tony before reading it (shame on me), I must now acknowledge that the story is pretty good and some of the rage topics vastly overrated. The Amarr are not religious hypocrites; sure some of them question the existence of God at points in their life but that is hardly uncommon among religious people and is well represented as test of faith in T1. Also, Heth did not exclude Ishukone citiznes from the Science and Trade Institute but from State Science Academy which is obviously a different institution altogether that player capsuleers cannot be a member of.

Though, there are still some direct lore conflicts here and there but they can be overlooked. There is a bad stench of misogyny in the general plot though, and it is a bad case to show Jamyl as a drug abusing sexual deviant when there are so many other cool ways to portrait her rebel phase. Btw. the space lesbians theme became old and overused years ago.

The story and build up for DUST 514 is great though and the description of the ground battles really made my interested in trying out that part of the game. There is not much character development and the characters are difficult to separate from each other if you try to do it based on character traits. They all act pretty much the same.

The revelations regarding the Sleepers were not overdone though I have a bit of a problem understanding the origin and the consequently motivation of the Other. I do not understand what sides there are in this war involving Jovians, Enheduanni, Sleepers/Architects and Others, and I do not mean that in a good way. Anyhow, I pad myself on the back for predicting that the Sleepers were a part of the Jovians and travelled from New Eden to Ainokis before the release of T1. In fact, nothing in T1 directly contradicts my earlier hypothesis.

I would like this story to continue but sadly the chances of Tony continuing it will be slim to none. In fact, it appears like EVE lore and storyline has been put severely on the backburner and I made a note during the Fan Fest that if you are cool enough to participate in a dev/player quiz show, you should know jack about the EVE lore. Guess it is no longer a selling point.

Anyhow, seeing as topic of exploration has left Torfi’s vision for EVE (harvesting->manufacturing->destruction) and that EVE lore is now something being spoon-fed through the Fiction Portal I am likely going on a deserved EVE break soon.

Final point; read this book, it is good.

EDIt: Forgot a thing; Lord Falek Grange is a Mary Sue, avoid that stuff and never let him come back.

I'm still unable to buy the E-book (EPUB format) in The Netherlands.
As far as I know this is a problem in Europe.

I even contacted the publisher, to ask why, but still no answer Ugh

When I tried to buy it from abroad, they cannot sell the ebook to foreign countries, due to publishing rights Twisted

I Wonder why CCP does not sell the books / E book in the Eve store??

I liked the book a lot though I feel that a lot of threads in it need another book to be expanded on / concluded.

Also, there can never be enough space lesbians. Big smile

I don't know where you are trying to purchase it, but if you are just looking for any form or E-book format, it is possible to obtain it on the Amazon kindle store, and then read it on your PC.

Alrhough I'm not quite done with the book yet (100 pages to go), I've enjoyed it a good deal. I'm not all that tied up with the intertwined storyline of conflict between past, and present empires (Jovan, Sleeper, Amarr, etc, etc). My thoughts are more focused on the impact that cloning technology will have on future capsuleer and ground troop relations.

As the universe stands now, Capsuleers are at the top of the food chain. This holds true as long as they are in space (in their pods). However, the ground troops (Templars for Amarr), will be immortal wherever they are as long as they are in proximity of a cloning station. This would make Capsuleers very vulnerable outside of their ships, stripping them of their supremacy.

I can see this potentially leading to a conflict between the immortals, regardless of the former factions.
