Hi like the title says im new to the game just bought it 2 days ago and decided to go Caldari and was hoping somone could tell me what skills and ships i should be focusing on.

currently i have a Merlin class frigate with 2 Malkuth missile launchers and 1 Shield boost.

the main problem i have with missions is i take alot of damage and find myself warping out to repair then warping back in. And i would also like to fill more slots on my ship for burners or more shields but i have seemed to reach the max power for that ship.

Any help would be appreciated

P.S. Sorry im a total noob to the game but i really do enjoy it and see myself playing it for awhile.

open character sheet, open certificates, open certificate planner.

look at core certificates, defence certificates, missile certificates/hybride gunnery certificates. here is a list with skills that are use full for what you are flying.

You mention Missile launchers, the Merlin is basicly a Hybride weapon ship.

Either you go for hybrides or move up to a caracal which will be more usefull for a missile pilot. Kestrell is an other option though that one is quite hard to fit to start with.

Or go full hybride and make the step to the commerant and through to the Moa.

basicly you need to make a chose as a young Caldari Pilot missiles of Hybrides, or resign in the fate of moving very slowly through the ship lines.

Missile ships -> Kestrell -> Caracal -> Drake -> Raven or Tengu -> Caldari Navy Raven.

Hybride Ships -> Merlin -> Commerant -> Moa -> Ferox -> Rokh

I would like to go straight missiles. Turrets just dont seem to get the job done like missiles do. So pretty much ditch the merlin and get a missile specific ship? my friend gave me some money so im sure i could get another and fit it

Missiles are a little easier to start with, you need to think less about manuevering and only at range and damage type (at first later come things like explosion signature and the like)

While it's also true that Missiles are a little better while running PvE Missions, Hybrides certainly can get the job done it just needs a little more practice or a buddy that is willing to teach you how it works.

Keep in mind that although missiles give you a fast punch, Gunnery make stepping to other races easier since they share the same support tree with Lasers, and projectile weapons, which are the main weapons of Anmar and Minmatar (Gallante use hybrides as well)

Personaly I did the missile tree as well and to me it's weakness comes at the moment you fly a drake for some time. It will teke quite some time to get in an other ship from that point (skill and money will be the issue)

keep in mind that when you want to PvP, missile battleships are not very usefull, Cruise missiles have al but no function outside PvE and Torps are only used a mass on steath bombers.

Most important have fun

Well imay still think about doing hybrid once i get my missile skills to level 4. Another problem i have is taking a decent amount of dmg on missions. I only have 1 shield booster and that doesnt seem to do the job for the most part. Id like to put a stronger one on or at least multiple ones. Just cant make rrom on my ship for power usage.

try looking in your core certificates and look at core fitting in your character sheet, there are the skills you need to get the fitting right.

searching on starting guides on this forum might give you a direction on what to train as well.

Well, for cruisers you need the medium sized modules (frigates use the small ones) , which require even more CPU/Power Grid.

I doubt that it will be easier to fit than a frigate without the skills mentioned in the core certificates.
Also cruisers are sometimes not allowed in Level 1 missions. So you have to take the frigate again.

Another reason you get that much damage could be that you shoot the wrong targets and cause another wave of rats (that's how eve players call the npc ships).
Take a look on Eve Survival - Mission Reports and bookmark it. You will need it a lot :)
There you can see which ships to shoot and what damage you should deal and what damage they deal (So which SHIELD HARDENER (hint!) you should use)

You know i just did that today and now i have plenty of power to fit a shield and an afterburner with some left over. Wow it was amazing how much power that thing gave me. I shoulda bought 1 for each of my ships haha

you should only use fitting mods (modules that are only there to give you more cpu or power grid) until you get your engeneering and electronics up to snuff. the extra module slot will serve you better with a damage mod later on.

I should buy an Ishtar.

1/ Clic on "market " icon
2/ Click on "skills"
3/ you will have a list of skills set => Corporation management, Drones, Electronics, Engineering, Gunnery, etc etc "
4/ Spend 15 minutes or 20 minutes to read the description of hte skills

5/ Hint : Electronics skill gives you more CPU, Engineering skill more powergrid. Weapon Upgrade reduces the CPU and Advanced Weapon Upgrade reduces the powergrid needed for guns and missiles . Shiel Upgrade reduces Powergrid needed for shield extenders

train Electronics and Engineering to 5, Advanced weapons Upgrade and shield upgrade to 4, this will solve your fitting issues for a long time .

Simple as that .

PS : I would not bother with the certificates stuff, just read the damn skills description, this will give you a better understanding of what to train in the long run/.
