Might I ask why you subjugate the people who can spell and pronounce the language correctly to such fallacy? Why am I forced to spell like an American when I am English? I cannot comprehend why, I, as an Englishman, am forced to improperly spell my native language.

Discuss.

While I might take a little offense to the American stereotype, I have to 100% agree with you.
I'm a ******* American, and it pisses me off when 99% of my society uses bastardized terminology as the standard.

No it hasn't, you are incredibly ignorant.

In fact this change came about in Crucible.

Please be more aware of your topic before commenting on it. It might save the embarrassment of being proven to be just another ignorant player with an incorrect statement.

This is Middle English written by Geoffrey Chaucer (heard of that guy brits? I think he was Englyshe...) :

'Wepyng and waylyng, care and oother sorwe
I knowe ynogh, on even and a-morwe,'
Quod the Marchant, 'and so doon oother mo
That wedded been."
(Modern English - 'Weeping and wailing, care and other sorrow
I know enough, in the evening and in the morning,'
said the Merchant, 'and so does many another
who has been married.' )

You'll notice things have changed a bit... *gasp*! Shocked

Also - too late..."American" English is no longer "American". The world has taken it and made it a tool for communication. It's all about communication. Someone from Petrograd and someone from Peru can communicate. This is a good thing. Maybe instead of complaining English people could think: "Wow...something we started has changed into something the world uses as a tool...cool..." Times change. Lately, times change very fast. Adapt (adopt?) or be left behind.

I'm an American. In eve, I always spell "honourable" with a 'u' in order to add a bit of a chivalric color to the word. This is especially true when speaking about "honourable duels". Big smile

There are actually more English speakers in China than there are in the U.S., so the argument of "majority gets their way" is rather hilariously bogus. Imagine for a moment that all English speakers agreed to speak English with a Chinese accent, simply because so many English speaking Chinese speak it in that manner.

I want maximum efficiency and simplicity in a language. I've never been a fan of extra flair added to a word simply to make it sound cool, unless there is some hidden meaning in the flair (e.g. honour duel). Hence, I don't necessarily like words like colour, armour, "aluminium".

People will always have their individual preferences. As such, when you have a large enough group of people that disagree, languages diverge. I find it intriguing to consider if UK English and US English will eventually diverge to the point that they are no longer reciprocally easily understood.

Go and add up the numbers across the rest of the world and compare it to the USA. Sorry, but you guys are tiny compared to the rest of the world - most of which use English; not United States English.

A McDonald's in every country.

You also get Genital Warts in every country , your point being?

Anyway it's all a very clever ploy by the Amercian Goverment to change the way English is spelt into a standardised USA format all through the power of Micosoft Office and its ****** spell checker.

Also If people want to speak English I don't really care how they spell it. We should be proud it's used so widely.

Stop bumping irrelevant threads. Today is about The Mittani only.

"Intelligible" is not a word used to describe appearance, you meant "intelligent".

That phrase makes it seem as though you are trying too hard to pass yourself off as intellectual, because that phrase also does not mean what you think it does... unless of course...

Maybe because you tried to get us to actually pay taxes to fund a war we asked you to fight and then ****** up your enforcement? I mean seriously. Most Americans didn't even pay taxes at the time, and your taxes weren't even unreasonable compared to what the average British citizen paid. We were completely in the wrong, the only valid argument we had against the British was the lack of representation and your general annoyingness. You completely botched the war. World's greatest navy my ass. You couldn't even backup your ground troops from the sea when the French moved in. So you just gave up. When your nation collectively goes back in time and handles the revolution like somebody not completely ******** you can get your weird spellings back.

Edit: Also stop adding unnecessary R's to everything. It's saw, not sawr. Data not Darta.

You're adding "U" in completely pointless places, it doesn't make you look intelligible, it makes you seem parallel to the stereotypes we have of Americans; uneducated, incompetent morons.

..and you appear to be another stodgy Brit that is still butt hurt that its not the grand old days of the Empire.

Deal, I have to use European spelling and you have to use US spelling its not the end of the world.

Funny fact but "Armor" is actually the proper american spelling. Just like Color.

thought something didn't look right and i always thought i was spelling it correctly with the u.
