So, this seems to have flown under the radar a bit from Soundwave's keynote for eve. What the hell is a micro jump drive and how does it work?

From what I gather

1)point ship in direction
2)activate MJD (possible these two can happen simultaneously)
3) Wait for MJD to cycle
4) Jump straight forwards to 100km (or was it 110?)

Sounds useful to catch up with fleeing/distant enemies, or to even flee yourself. Possibly giving gallente blaster boats a bit more of a chance? P

Jumps you 100 km in the direction you're facing, high spool up time and high reuse time
This is my signature. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.  Without me, my signature is useless. Without my signature, I am useless

I would very, very much prefer this to be the function of Micro-Warp Drives. Along with conceptual shiplines, ship redesigns and upcoming ship modules overhaul, why not? Big smile

  • Afterburners become what Micro-Warp Drives were, countered by Webifiers.
  • Micro-Warp Drives become what Micro-Jump Drives were, countered by Warp Scramblers (for Micro) or Disrupters (T2 for Micro & standard).
  • -- (Jumping you 100 km ahead)
  • Micro-Jump Drives become something completely new allowing adjacent-solarsystem Jumping, countered by 'cynosural fish-net' or Heavy Interdictors.
  • -- (Tactical advantage for specialized Attack/Combat shiplines and improves freighting Industrial shiplines)

I do believe the Micro Jump Drive was renamed Tactical Warp Drive in the "Brave new module" session.
From what I gathered:

  • After a breif spool up, jumps you >100km in the direction you're traveling, velocity is conserved.
  • High re-activation timer.
  • Is stopped by conventional warp disruption as well as a newly introduced Tactical Warp Disruption Bubble which doesn't stop regular warping.

I can think of quite a few ways this kind of module could come in handy.

or, if Micro-Jump Drives becomes a charged-based module allowing adjacent solarsystem-jumping, the Cynosural Fields can act as a 'fly catcher' where when Micro-Jumpers going into systems cannot randomly appear anywhere. Instead they appear 'fly-catched' in re-invented Cynosural Fields.

Tactical decisions:
  1. Enable Cynosural Field to funnel adjacent system's evasive micro-jumpers into system.
  2. Disable Cynosural Field to prevent enemy fleets or enemy Incursions taking advantage.

Militia & Alliance useage:
  • Military-class Cynosural Fields are self-sustaining, self-serviced and only accessible during solarsystem alerts.
  • (Militia: Linked with Loyalty Point system upgrades? - Alliance: encourage importance of Starbase Operators and Technicians)
  • Cynosural Fields in war-alerted systems and constellations, when Enabled they may attract Incursion to punish inactivity whilst sustaining level of activity.
  • (Defended by NPC Military)

On activation you jump 100km from the position you are at the activation moment, ship keeps his alignment and speed at landing, of course it's supposed to have some CD to use it again.
No real official numbers are out yet and to be honest see this hit TQ on it's current "supposed" form it's not really that awesome.

I still think my initial idea was a lot better, less game breaking and bring a much larger portion of unused ships to fleet battles, but it's just me.
