Hey Eve Community, hey CCP,

i recently heard in EVE about the Graphic Card for PLEX thing and thought wow, this is awesome, finally i will be able to use all the isk laying around in my wallet to do something useful for me.
I was looking for a new graphics card for like 3 months now, but im way to broke to afford one.
Well i instandly bought 20 PLEX and was all happy,
but then i found out you gonna offer a 170$-ish Card for the equal worth of like 300$.
I still hope you guys will take a look on the market and do way more fair prices on this deal.
Maybe you just had the wrong model in hands or i just got something wrong, but a 560GTX is never worth 10Billion ISK nor 300$.
Dont forget to tell me what you think about this.

And fly safe all:)

Maybe it's a bling-bling card... reminds me of expensive pants... :P

edit/also I'd be interested to buy two/three actually, even if it's more expensive than RL it's still free in terms of not paying with real money - so a cheap way to SLI...

Hope to see more info about purchasing soon.

I'd just wait till the offer is finally up. I could imagine them picking "some" higher price first, so they can lower it later on. Increasing the price might upset more people than a lowered price (that was deemed to high at first).

Edit: Also, don't expect a 1:1 conversion, they're not charity giving away 100% of the money they earned (by selling that PLEX earlier).

Well, while the pants where virtual goods, and its the only way you can get them, and are some kind of emotional thing, the graphics cards are for real and have a real market value. And i would feel scammed paying that.

During Fanfest they talked about some partnership with Nvidia to allow people to buy graphic cards with PLEX (similar to the way you could buy Fanfest tickets/HD stream), probably in preparation for the updated DirectX 11 graphics engine.

Maybe they will sign it or add some stuff that makes it unique but from what i can remember is that the 20 plex deal also includes shipping fees.

So who is at fault here? You're the guy who ran out and bought 20 plex without researching wtf he was doing.

You did this because omg shiny new vid card.....

Do I have to say more here? OK i will

You should never have children, because you're bottom of the barrel with regards to intelligence. PS send me your isk and I will get you into ___ corp with a brand new titan as a welcome gift.

..and now some plainly fucken obvious logic: The direct plex to $ cost can't be 1:1. nVidia are betting on them being able to shift the plex. Perhaps you didnt catch the point where to get one of these cards you log into a nvidia site. not ccp. Did you not figure out that there's only 100 cards for a reason?

ergh.

ccp needs to change their marketing catchphrase: "eve is hard, but we still got a bunch of fucktards too"

@Vokanic
first of all i can resell al the 20 PLEX without loss when ever i want ;) so thats not a big deal.
second, CCP was paid the equal amount of money for all the PLEX so yes you can calculate it like that, even if they have to transfer the money to nvidia.

I think I found your problem ;)

Seriously, CCP is not expecting people to go buy 20 PLEX with RL money. They fully expect people to use their ISK surplus to get the card.

It's a marketing move, both trying to tear down the PLEX/ISK <> RL money barrier in the minds of the players... and, see how real life governments are going to react to this ( customs, taxes, VAT etc. ).

If CCP can get players to buy PLEX to fund their in-game activities and then have other players with too much ISK on their hands buy the PLEX introduced in that way and use it on RL goods - CCP can in theory print money by being the middle-man with the RL Currency > PLEX > RL Currency platform.

If they can convert somones PLEX which he spend 300 USD on, and have those PLEX leave the system again but at a much higher value ( a 170 USD product traded for PLEX that someone payed 300 USD for ), they are in effect printing money since those 20 PLEX will be replaced in the economy ( supply & demand ).

The AUR hasn't taken off, CCP was too greedy and pidgeoin-holed themself into a certain price range. Now, they are looking into other avenues, since potentially, they might one day be forced to go F2P and they need to have their new income platform up and running before that.

Testing the waters and all that, but in a much more marketable way than the monocle.

This deal isnt designed for those who buy plex to buy the card.

This deal is for players who have a crap tonn of isk and no good reasons to spend it.

to clear this out, i bought the PLEXes with ISK, but yeah pohbis you got the point i wnated this thread to go, basically ccp is acting like a trading company on this graphics card, having almost 100% margin, and thats a joke.

So i hope they will think about taking a card thats worth the 300$ and im fine :P

soo theyre operating a margin of 100% on a currency that doesnt exist out of game.... so they could operate a bajillion % mark up... its not going to equate to profit unless some complete idiot buys the plex using real life cash.

its an atempt to do something pretty much unheard of, yes its a marketing strategy, but its not like theyre trying to shaft eve players. if anything its the opposite!

what game do you know would allow you to buy real, usefull things not made by them with no ACTUAL real hard cash?

its also to push the implementation of that new nvidia tech, cause its in nvidias interests to want to promote and get people interested in their new stuff rather than their competitors.

A joke? Well, peoples thoughts will differ on the subject.

It is only really shady when you look at it as a 1 to 1 transaction. However, unlike something as PayPal where the platform offers you nothing except a browser-based service and they make their profits through currency conversion and small fees, CCP are offering their middle-man service based on an entertainment platform that offers people value - entertainment value.

If CCP would just be 1 to 1 exchanging a 170 USD product for a 300 USD product between 2 people, yes, the margin would be extreme and there would be no value in using CCPs service, as opposed to just buying it on NewEgg.com However, they are not.

1 person is funding his entertainment with PLEX - and some other guy will fund the product with surplus ISK, which he got while playing a game as well. Being entertained.

Those 2 people never meet. The one buying the 20 PLEX doesn't care that someone had to pay 300 USD for them, and that he is only getting 170 USD value out of that. He didn't pay RL money, he payed with a currency earned while entertaining himself.

And the guy who bought the PLEX, well, he got to play serious internet spaceships without having to grind ISK to fund his activities. Both in essence win, and CCP provided the entertainment value that makes both players perceive it that way.

Unlike on PayPal, where doing this would have been a complete rip-off, unless you enjoy punching keys in a browser Lol

Well this is one way to drain all the extra Incursion ISK out of the economy.

On the flip side, could this be the tip of an iceberge? Since you can buy ISK with real money without violating the ToS, ( RM>GTC>PLEX>ISK) then the idea of flipping that around has some interesting ramifications. On the extreme opposite end of the spectrum, where there was a way to convert ISK back into RM easily. It would be pretty cool to augment your RL income by playing EVE, or perhaps even make a living doing it if your really good at acquiring ISK by whatever means.

its designed to be a win win win

ccp gets more plex sales, maybe even a cut of the $$
nivida gets card sales
players can spend isk on plex and buy real world items of value, if you have 20bil lyeing around in game you can now buy a new gfx card,

all this said, i think itshould be the 560 ti, not the 560 but i'm not gonna complain about it, they advertised the ti version at the alliance tourney before, so figured they would have used that one.
