Processor - really hot

Just recently, after Crucible, I've been monitoring my processor and it is capping at 83/84 degrees Celsius. I have never seen it get this hot.

I don't know if this is a problem on my end or if there's something going on with EVE. It only causes problems (like my computer locking up) when I'm in my CQ for a long period of time.

Just in case it IS my problem, I ordered some thermal grease to help with the heat. This PC is around 5 years old, after-all, but it usually runs EVE on max settings absolutely gracefully. Until now, with the lock-ups and all. I may also buy a fan to point directly at the insides of my PC.

I'm the kind of person who likes to squeeze the life out of his technology, so, I will make sure this machine lasts until I can't even boot into Windows.

Anyone else experiencing this?

edit: Filed a petition. Drinking rum hinders my ability to read things.

Doesn't sound like a real issues (modern CPUs/boards will shutdown at 100 or 110 °C, so there's still room for more (and even then the hardware most likely won't be damaged immediately). Have you checked your heat sink (esp. the passive part and the area connecting it to the fan). I remember my old boxed cooler always having issues due to dust getting stuck between coolant and fan, essentially blocking airflow every few weeks. If you're using a boxed fan (i.e. the fan that came with the cpu), I'd grab some 20/30 bucks fan from one of the big/known vendors (thermaltake or similar) instead of trying to add more flow using some auxillary fan (always remember that you can screw up airflow this way, too).

Yeah, I'm definitely getting some fans, along with the thermal grease to replace what I haven't replaced in 5 years. Probably going to blow the dust out of it too. (although I have cleaned the dust on a regular basis)
