I like the idea behind Pyfa - an open source fitting application. I like EFT's execution better.

Maybe it's just me, but pyfa feels really slow while in comparison eft feels incredible fast.

pyfa has prices for non-market items which makes it easier to estimate total costs. pyfa's DPS chart is a nicer in that it gives you direct control over the input variables. On the downside, pyfa's biggest sin is not have space/dividers between low, medium, and high slots. It has also has a very clunky interface in terms of looking up ships.

eft's UI is better organized (visibility, on-screen data organization,) and it's easier to apply fleet bonuses.

This.

Also eft has estimated overheat times while pyfa has not.

The good thing is that both can be improved.

i mostly find it anoying that eft there is no easy way to see meta level of named mods. and rightclicking on hundreds of mods gets old to check the bonus's

I personally prefer EFT. But you should try both and use whichever one find more useful.

If you are looking for an alternative fitting tool there is also EVEUniverse for iOS.

http://www.eveuniverseiphone.com/

It is a young app that is still under development but it seems to have the essentials down for fittings and skill planning. It is a Universal app that is optimised for iPad but is OK on iPod/iPhone. Price is FREE with minor ads and £0.69 to register and get rid of the ads.

1) Pyfa also will add extra slots if you type them into fit

Ie

[Empty High slot]
[Empty High slot]

[Empty Med slot]

And it shows results with extra rigs))

However Pyfa doesn't show heat time unlike eft. Which is a major downside for me.

Pyfa has a better interface- you can shift click to change multiple charges at once, etc. EFT is better organized. EFT will import implants from API. Pyfa has a better graph system. I've been using pyfa since EFT was late in updating fro crucible. I honestly can't say which one I prefer.

EFT allows you to highlight multiple modules and change charges at once. The interface for doing it is *WAY* sleeker than Pyfa's. Pyfa lets you script with it. :)
