So, I read the new third party EULA and it just seems a little weird. Maybe it's just me.
Are we allowed to put advertisements in our apps?
I swore this was a topic of discussion but didn't see anything on it in the agreement.
And if we put ads, do we also have to distribute the source?

CCP proposed a licensing system where you could do things like ads etc but third party developers felt the terms weren't very good so CCP retracted it to work on it some more and we haven't heard anything more about it yet. There were threads about it on the forums but it was around the time they started testing the new forums etc so the threads about it might be on the old forums too

Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. Designer of Yapeal for the Eve API. Check out the Yapeal PHP API Library thread.

I did actually find the thread in regards to ads and it was closed due to the age of the thread. In the new EULA, you can charge for the cost involved in giving away your application. Such as bandwidth and such. I still don't see how we can take donations and have ads when they say we can't.

We will give an update on this at the Devtrack sessions tomorrow at Fanfest. The devblog from last year is NOT representative of what we are going to do for developer licensing. Stay tuned for devblog and Fanfest info.

I was just about to release a new freeware application.

Don't make me quit EvE again like you did the last time, because you wanted ME to improve on your game AND pay you for it.

Play dirty again and I won't come back. Just look at how the majority of apps authors quit and now we have a sea of stale, non working applications that never got ported to the new API.

Don't p!ss us off again.

Now now, don't be so hostile. I'm sure that even with the first iteration they meant it for the best. Just didn't think about the implications it would have and released it in an incomplete state.

I'm very interested to hear what they will be talking about today.

Slides from the dev track.

Covers it pretty well. No real changes from the current situation, with the addition of extra rights. (The credit card payment requirement is as validation that you're a real person, which plex doesn't do.)

I very much like it when people are angry just because they have no clues.

In this matter you have really posted enough angry posts VV.

I hope you have read the slides.

And if not a tl:dr just for you:

For anyone using the existing API there is no change.
Only if you want to be listed in the NEW (and upcoming) 3rd party listing or if you want to use CREST you will need to register.
And for all use cases - other than wanting to get paid in real life money - it will be free to use.

See if you lived in a country like me, where bloodsucking every last atom is the norm, you'd also get quite annoyed seeing the same sordid behavior being applied for a game - only one of all the MMOs I play to do like that. Happy to see they changed their mind.

I mean, I had to deal with Game Workshop and their IPs are vastly more relevant than CCP ones and still had no issue and could include their copyrighted content.

You know, honestly, I have almost decided on quitting programming any apps as I can't make any money on it.
The only money I can make is getting new players into eve, which will barely happen, and selling plexes and making $1.00 per sale.

I almost can't wait for Diablo III's API. But who knows, they might not allow monetizing either.

Once the developer license comes out:

ad supported products are fine.

Sweet. And it will be free.
Maybe I will focus more on programming now.

Hmm. So still can't charge actual money for third party apps. That is unfortunate.

I'll probably carry on with my project as I enjoy it and I've learnt a lot from it so far but it's less likely to ever see the light of day as there is less motivation for me to really put the time into it.
After a long day at work I could either chill out with a game for a couple of hours or do more of the same as what I was doing at work but without being paid...

You can - but not as long you don't pay money to CCP.
If you want to get paid send an email and ask them about the terms...

This

You're using their IP. They /have/ to control it, or risk losing it.
