Ok I know I'm dense...

Given the unstable nature of the bursts and the amount of internal shielding needed to ensure they do not affect their own point of origin, only battleship-class vessels can use this module to its fullest extent.

That's from the description.

Does that mean you will jam yourself if you use it on a smaller vessel or that it simply does not work?

I'd test but, with my luck, there would be a cloaked ship near by and I would get concorded...

Anyone ever fit one to a cruiser?
To what effect?

Was wondering about fitting as a means of possible last resort escape in low sec...

It means that only the ECM bonuses of the Scorpion and Widow apply to ECM bursts, but not the bonuses of Blackbird, Griffin etc.

Although this is the real ECM Burst...

The physical size of your ship goes some way towards determining the effectiveness; a frigate is only a couple of metres long but a BS is 500m long, which makes the area of effect larger around a BS. Or, indeed, a capital.

The strength of an ECM burst is 9; a Falcon gets 11+. However, signal distortion amps don't affect ECM bursts so you can't ramp up the strength of your ECM unlike normal ECM. Also the cycle time is 30s, and only breaks locks, it doesn't keep people permajammed.

That said, a swarm of ECM burst Griffins can be hilarious.
