ganking with a cyclone?

Last night, I was hauling items from a pos on an indy alt. At the gate in a .7 system, a cyclone tried to gank me. The person even.had a t2 prowler attempting to bump me while the cyclone scrammed (maybe disrupted, not sure).

I just don't understand why the person did not use a tornado. Is there some reason medium guns would be better? Is it a cost issue in that a cyclone is far less expensive? Would it be likely that this person had a partner who was a no show?
Is the training difference between a tornado with large guns that much longer?

Given it was a t1 itty mrk 5, with level 5 hull upgrade and shield upgrade
, could it have been ganked by a catalyst instead?

I guess I'm just trying to understand the ship choice when everything I've heard is to use a tornado.

It tickled his/her/it's pickle?

It is cheap, puts out decent DPS, decent tank if fitted right and skilled up right.

So as far as the reasons why or what or when....why don't you ask him/her/it because there is no way anyone of us will know.

I have seen Cyclone hulls at one time sell as cheap as 12 Million ISK.

Maybe someone asked the same question, and they were like, "one way to find out."
Catalysts are bad on gates by the way, the gate guns almost alpha them.

Around the last time I shopped for one.... when Incursions were still only live events as I recall but I drink too much so don't quote me.
