Moving into a new wormhole

So as the title suggests, I want to make a new home in a wormhole. I have the pos and all the goodies ready to go.

I have buddies at the ready to help move in. I am aware of the logistical nightmare that getting a POS into and set up in a wormhole will entail.

What I want to know is are there any wormholes that are unoccupied now? Most of the wormhole google results from 2009ish so not very accurate.

For first time wormholers, what wormhole would you rcommend? c2 with a static to high? c3 with static to c2? c4 with static to c2?

Yes, there are unoccupied wormholes.

And what statics you need will depend on your usage of it. If you have a group of players who will run through sites quickly, then the static will matter far more than the system you're in; if you only have a few players, then your system will matter more.

And, personally, I prefer to have a lowsec static if you want a k-space static. It cuts down a lot on unwanted visitors but it doesn't hurt your logistics too much (if you're living in a wormhole, getting through lowsec should be a piece of cake).

assuming that most of my guys will be soloing these sites, how viable would a c3 be?

I prefer the idea of a c2 but a static to high is just asking for it.

Also good point on the lowsec static. easy to get in for me and less appetizing for the average highsec ganker to get in.

C2's have 2 statics, one to w-space, one to k-space. Personally, I'd recommend something like a C2 with a C2 and a low sec statics (D382 and A239). There's a lot of those and you're more likely to find an unoccupied system like that than an unoccupied C2 with a high sec static (B274). The low sec connection might sound like a bad deal but it's actually not. There's a LOT of C2's with high sec statics, and since you always have access to a C2 from a system with D382 and A239 statics, you'll often be one jump away from high sec. Plus, low sec exits aren't that bad, and you'll get less traffic than you will through a high sec exit. The convenience of high sec connections comes at a price Smile The advantage of having a C2 static is that in addition to farming your home system, you can also farm your neighbor system and since that changes daily, you won't run out of sites (which will happen in your home system soon enough if you actively clear it out).

Basically, C2's are a good place to start if you're a noob to w-space, C3's are still solo-able but will require more effort and experience.

Finding a suitable home might take a while, it's largely a matter of luck. Park some scanner alts in a few systems with C2 statics, scan daily, check out systems thoroughly, when you find something that looks promising keep an alt there for a few days as well just to make sure there are no surprises. Also, you might find systems that have a control tower or two anchored, but no signs of life (no force field, often not even any modules left at the towers). This is pretty common and most systems like that are indeed abandoned and empty.

And, of course... Read guides, learn as much as you can before committing your assets, etc.

I've been consuming every guide I come across and I have learned a lot but they don't go into terrible details about the specifics you mentioned. Thanks for the insight.

I'll start the hunt on C2's then.

There are a ffeew ways to go about finding a nice hole to live in. The easiest is to just grab a scanning cob ops and go hole diving for a bit. You'll find where you can set up pretty quick with just a few dscans, and if you're lucky no one will shoot you right after toy jump in. If you don't feel like scanning about (which is never something you should say if you want to live in a hole btw), use taggert to buy one or hit up a wormhole alliance. For just starting out, i'd recommend a c2. They are basically the training space before hitting the larger holes. Good luck and fly safe.

this is exactly what I want to do with my C2 hole. I eventually want to get bigger and get a c3 or c4 but I don't think I'm ready yet.

one more small question about moving into wormholes.

Is it advisable to use an orca w/ a couple indies for the logistics operation of moving stuff in or should I pack it all in industrials and move the pos / fuel / guns in that way?

For the initial move in, always assume the space you're heading into is hostile. Use a cloaky Indy to begin the anchoring process and have it sit and watch as the tower goes up. then you can move an orca plus whatever else you might need in. Just a few things though:

ALWAYS use a large tower.
ALWAYS put guns up and armed.
NEVER assume you're alone.

Ewar is never a bad idea. Don't forget to play to your hole's weather either. Just remember to use dscan. I usually hit it once per ten seconds. if you forget dscan, I'm sure you'll be...forcibly reminded at some point.

Bernie gave you good advice. Also keep in mind that:

An orca uses 250 mill of the wh mass, while an industrial uses about 15.
An industrial can align relatively quickly, while the orca is SLOW to get away from the wh.

If I'm a ganker at the wormhole, it's easier for me to catch your orca than your iteron, due to that align time issue. And I will kill either one of them without much trouble unless you have combat backup.

If you are moving into a C2 with LS/C2 statics, that means you are most likely gonna be flying through at least 1 other system (LS or a c2) to get your stuff in. When I see an industrial (badger, iteron, etc) on dscan in my wh, I start looking for it. If I see an orca I look even harder, because it's a bigger target and I know it's easier to catch, with potentially more loot to scoop.

All good reasons why, in my opinion, industrials are a far better option for moving stuff around.

I would like the other people in here recommend a C2, now with the statics it depends on the amount of people moving in and their level of ship skills. So if there is only a few of you and you cant fly T3's or BS's then just go a C1 or C2 static, but if there is a few more of you and you all can fly shiny ships then look towards a C3 or C4 static.

As for the Kspace static a C2 gives you i preferred the HS when we lived in a C2, sure the LS will give you less traffic but it also gives you more competent traffic. I liked the free noob kills we would get when we left the HS open..... That said it is up to you to open your HS and what condition you leave it in , if we had to use it we would either crush it to verged so that on return trip it would be gone or crush it completely and then open a new HS when we needed to return.

EDIT: And yeah just buy the hole, depending on the hole a C2 will only cost 300-500M dependent on effects last time we bought a C2 through taggarts WH sales, you can make that back in a night easily.

thanks everyone for your top quality posts here. I am feeling like I am not even on eve forums P

so here's my plan then...

Bring it all in in iterons using a couple cloaky recons along the way. iterons will be carrying pos, fuel, stront, and guns.

after I get them all in the wh, start anchoring pos, then move in a protective fleet.

I have 4 logis at my disposal, probably will only get 2 during the op tho. say its two bassi's how long yall recokon itll take to rep the shields up?

We WH folk want more people to move into WH's it gives us more people to shoot at errrr i mean wave to.....

Trade the Basi's in for protection ships let the shields rep themselves, in the move in your more likely to get people wanting to pick a few of your ships off not go tower bashing...... that may come much later. And yeah iterons are good for the initial move in, you can use an orca later but be sure to check your hole for any random holes first and make sure its a fresh hole and you control it with protection.

EDIT: Tower bashing fleets can happen but a roaming pack is less likely to go back fleet up a proper fleet to knock down your tower then they are likely to get the few kills they can.

People like Mr Nator above and his crew will usually find systems to invade first with scouts and then days of planning and watching you and then get times set for people to be available and ready. They don't just mass fleet up for tower bashing and go straight away unless its required in a home system of theirs.

You should probably have at least one fast scouting ship. Any ordinary frigate will as a cheap ship you can risk blindly tossing into the fray ahead of everything else is a lot better.

Iterons are rather fat. Try seeing if you can get at least one transport ship going.

Two bassi's will take a rather long time. I'm not sure exactly how long but at least an hour.

Oh Ive got cloaky transport lined up for the move. I was using iterons as a euphemism for an indy ship.

I've seen merc corps advertize help moving to wh's is this worth it at all or am I just blowing smoke?

Something to note, you can jump through a wh from 5km. So if you jump your hauler in, wait out session timer, then approach wh, if someone attacks, just jump out, if not warp to pos, you will be warping before you go past the 5km jump range, if attacked after you hit warp to.. cancel warp... and you got it.. jump out. When you jump into the wh, you will normally be within 5km.. so never panic, wait out session timer.. and jump out. Obviously if you exit is to LS this will not do you much good...

Nah screw the merc corp, they would charge more than the replacement costs of your indies full of tower mods. If your that worried send me an in game mail and i can convo you on my main, and maybe help out if TZ's match up.

I won't help you move in, but I'll be more than happy to give advice.

I have personally extracted hundreds of million in ISK from people who I've caught putting up their towers. We even destroyed one small amarr before the nubs could get it ninja'd up (this being before pos mods could be instantly onlined, so not likely repeatable). It was 2 hours of "fun" for 3 BS's.

The key thing is to monitor the entrances. You might unluckily have someone spawn a K162 into your hole a minute before you start onlining your POS (as above) and suffer, but if you have scouts on your statics and known K162's, you'll be fine.

I see quite a few unoccupied holes, and even more barely-occupied ones. We took over ours with three bombers and a handful of battleships.
