Freighter skill and align time

Just a quick question.

If the most annoying thing about freighters is their painfully long align time, and ships warp at 3/4 max velocity, and the freighter skill increases max velocity for each level...

Does this make that aspect of the freighter skill somewhat detrimental?

Would an agility bonus be better?

I haven't tested this and I don't know how max velocity affects acceleration.

Thanks if you can answer this for me.

The most time consuming portion of freighter flying isn't align time, it's warp time. No, I don't think its detrimental (I'm sure Tau will give us some maffs soon enough).

edit: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Acceleration
"Two ships with identical masses and Inertial Modifiers but different top speeds will reach their respective top speeds in the same period. Thus, a ship with a higher top speed will have a higher acceleration in ms^-2 but will take the same time to reach the speed required to use warp engines. "

A way around it (albeit very expensive) is to create a jump clone and get low grade nomad implants. If you are pretty dedicated and have access to the lvl 4 agents you can grind the lp from Thukker mix for slots 1-5 in a weekend or two. I think when all is said and done they cut your align time by a third.

As Zaxix said, nah. the max speed changes nothing. its just 3/4 of a bigger number that you reach in the same length of time.

if you want to speed up the trip, i recommend getting a frigate with webs on a second account in the same corp. Web once aligned, presto.

Hey now, I resemble that remark! P Now I have to avoid "maffs"...

The freighter velocity bonus makes a HUGE difference when travelling AFK, as the majority of the travel time is spent approaching the next gate (12.5 km). So faster is better when AFK.

Example: AFK Charon, the slowest freighter, is faster than an AFK Orca, even though the Orca accelerates to warp faster and travels faster in warp, because the Orca has a lot slower max velocity and spends a lot more time approaching gates.

As ships warp at 75% of max velocity, it always takes the same amount of time to accelerate to warp regardless of the max velocity. So faster isn't detrimental even if you never AFK and always warp to zero.

Win-win.
