Can anyone tell me why Dust is going to be for PS3 only?

Just some kind of contract deal CCP made with Sony? If so, **** Sony.

WHY on earth would you create a FPS that's supposedly going to be linked directly to a PC-MMO, that you can't play on PC?

On second thought, **** Dust... make Dust our walking in stations/on planets (with guns).

Honestly, I cannot defend this direction.

Only PC players can have EVE.

Only PS3 can do Dust.

Only PS3 that also do PC will care about Dust, since it will have the aspect of being far along a storyline for Ps3 only to want.
(They like beating the previous versions of games first, and this will come across as a sequel or tie in that they aren't invested in)

Exactly.

Console gaming is for 12 year olds and Call of Duty players.

Especially PS3, who the **** has one of those? barf....

I have no problem with releasing Dust on PS3 and Xbox, but give it to the EEEEEEEEVE players too you ass holes... CCP seriously just blows my mind sometimes.

I'll say it again, make Dust walking in stations, sell it to console players as a standalone FPS, but give it to all EVE subscribers for free.

seems like i am not alone here, i do know that ccp wants to expand their reach, but seriously making a FPS for a console, when they are doing so good with the PC, what ccp should do at least i feel is in everyone's best interest is to make DUST 514 for BOTH PC and console, hell, they have to code everything on the PC and then convert it to be capable and working on the PS3 when they can stick with something they know best and make it for the PC aswell

PS: it seems like you saw my thread XD

Yes. PS3 is full of immature 12 year olds. As demonstrated by this mature and well-thought-out post, however, the PC community is vastly superior. Please continue, I would love to hear you talk about how much better you are than those console gaming peasants while throwing a tantrum over the platform chosen for a videogame.

I'd be willing to assume the vast majority of EVE players, myself included, really don't care about DUST at all. Let them have their console shooter. I'll still be here in my spaceship.

Damn right I'm throwing a tantrum.

I've paid a couple thousand dollars to CCP over the years and I want my dues boys.

I'm so 100% right about this that anyone who doesn't agree should go play call of duty or whatever game PS3 has because you obviously don't care about EVE.

If DUST 514 is put on the PC it will take players away from EVE or people will ignore it all together. You can't run an FPS and an MMO at the same time on the same platform. It's less of a hardware problem and more of the fact that it would be impractical to do both at the same time even with multiple monitors.

Also, in case you haven't noticed. CCP isn't exactly a gaming giant. The only people who know of CCP are the people who play EVE. Consoles have more active players, this is a fact. If DUST 514 has any chance of succeeding it's going to be on a platform were it will gain much more exposure.

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

wow, when the hell are people going to get it? they don't want it on PC as the PC players would kick the console players asses. and the console thing is for various reasons, the wii doesn't have the power to do it, the network the 360 uses is not capable of running it because microsoft wants control of any servers that their games link to and CCP can't do that, this leaves the PS3 as the only station capable of playing it. it's not like sony forced them into only releasing for PS3.

Why not both PC and PS3 then?

damn right we would. that's the way it should be. 12 year olds don't like it? get a mouse and keyboard.

I'm not saying I want to PLAY them both at the same time you moron. I'm saying if CCP is going to take time and money to make an entirely new game, they should show some respect to their patron customers and give it to them as well.

I refer you to this semi-intelligent person's quote...

Quote:

Although his words are barely legible, what he's saying is...

The only people who are going to play Dust are people who know about or already play EVE. So I'm predicting that most of the PS3 community is going to ignore it, and a bunch of EVE players are going to switch to it. So what you're trying to avoid will happen anyway.

Not one of you has any good reason why Dust shouldn't be available for PC as well, or better yet, PC only.

Its definitely true that the majority of console gamers have ADD and stick to flavor of the month games... wait, make that flavor of the week. Games that are all the rage today won't even be mentioned in a couple weeks. I work in the industry and witness this constantly.

However, if it hits the market well enough, they'll make a chunk of cash off the initial release. After a couple months, the playerbase will die down by a huge number and then they can work on releasing it for PC where it should have been in the first place. The bonus for following this path, though, is that they make money from the initial sales on the console rather than not.

If they are planning on putting it on the PC eventually, of course they can't announce it; then less people would buy it on the console during those first couple months. It makes a heck of a lot of sense to me; it just can't be confirmed or denied at this time due to the effect that would have.

Regardless of how their sales model is set up, it'll likely die off after the next big FPS comes out on the PS3... maybe sooner, who knows. Just like nearly every other console game.

If anybody stops playing EVE for Dust then they're probably not the kind of player who contributes much to EVE anyway.

That is correct. I highly doubt many (if any) players would quit eve to play dust if it came out on PC. It'd be more fun to play both than just 1 in either case. All they need to do is offer some sort of package deal for dual subscriptions that give you a discount if you subsribe to both on the same account and you have an overnight playerbase that's going to stick around.

Is Dust going to require a subscription/monthly fee for PS3?

If so, NOBODY is going to play it.

I don't know a single gamer, PC or console, that would ever pay monthly fees for a FPS. I already get made fun of HARD for paying for EVE, part of which has to do with what a dated and poorly designed game it is.

Fix EVE,

Pretty sure I read somewhere that it isn't going to be subscription based. You're right that console players are not as likely to pay a subscription to play a game. They aren't used to that, after all.

On a side note: Planetside was an awesome subscription based PC game back before sony up and ruined it with a single update. A lot of people paid the subscription for said FPS. So you're wrong about people not paying a subscription on an FPS.

Dust actually resembles planetside in many ways from what I've seen. Which is what saddens me that it's not coming out on PC. Would be nice to have a planetside revival.

Guys, If CCP releases DUST514 for PC it would be the worst mistake they would make! Why?

There are no FPS for PC that is not hacked! That is why! It would ruin Dust514 and this means that it would also Ruin EVE economy! Forever!

Sadly, not everyone plays by the rules, keep this in mind! (there are Aim bots, clipping bots, exploit bots, wtf bots!)

Also, CONSOLE have no advantage other then more security over PCs... they even have keyboard and mouse! So, this was the only way... And there will be no dust for PC....I'm sorry guys....

You were paying for the ability to play EVE during that time, not for guaranteed access to whatever games they release in the future.

So DUST has move, controller and mouse/keyboard control for PS3
Then CCP had a moment avoiding a comment about a 2nd PC release when giving details about the mouse and keyboard
I think the quote was something like "I wonder why we did that."

Source is the recent GDC interviews. If I'm wrong I'll happily take correction
http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/07/gdc-2012-ccp-talks-dust-eve-and-world-of-darkness/

I know it's not a confirmed PC release but I think CCP understands that the PS3 has a limited life and I wouldn't doubt that at the very end of it they could simply re-release DUST for PC (or another console for that matter, WiiU?). Also if the game fails badly on PS3 they will likely try to revive it on the PC, considering the amount of money it cost to make. All we can really do is sit back and wait.

On a side note. **** YEAH DUST 514 IS FREE!
