except its the same as before unless there is a patch unlike craptains quarters where it was a resource hog AND you couldn't turn it off without losing functionality.. so far my only issue is its taking incredibly long to patch.. the launcher has been working for like 20 minutes now, but maybe its a big file.

So I had these 2 shortcuts to run 2 clients made on a folder and its virtual copy. Worked great, 2 types of overviews and all that.

Then a Launcher comes along, I click one of the links it pops up, starts patching... I open settings turn a few things, click hide etc. After patching I click the big PLAY and a normal client launches... okay, so I close it and click on both my old shortcuts and MAGIC! NO LAUNCHER! :) Just the old client normally starting. :D

On the Launcher's first run, we checksum your client directory to know which files require patching. This information is cached for later runs, but unfortunately, your first run is likely to take a while. Thanks for your patience.

Why is it still sat there when I click on the extra "play" button I have to click on to start the game (2 clicks rather than 1 now .. why?) .. In fact why does it show at all, it should start up, realise there is no patch and just start eve .. Why the extra step?

Please check out the Settings menu, there is an option for precisely this use-case.

Cheers m8y ... Is there a reason why these are off by default?

So people who have multiple clients won't come to the forums and complain like you do about why you have to launch the launcher several times and then click play to launch multiple clients.

Geez, people. Sometimes you just don't think at all, do you?

"Think" about it again ... You appear to have missed a bit.

The settings tell it to close the launcher after launching eve AND/OR only open with an update .. So if you "think" about it again .. It works just like it used to if the settings were on by default ..

So if you "think" about it .. Why not just have the settings on and it would work just as it did before the launcher ..

Thoughts eh!

Seems that having a shortcut to the EVE.EXE itself bypasses the launcher... Or its just that I disabled so that it only runs when patching is needed... I guess

Once again, priorities seem to be rather different to what they were recently so vehemently claimed to once again be.

We'll be tailoring this going forward, thanks for your feedback Smile.

By tailoring do you mean dressing up characters in the nex store?

I appreciate the responses on this issue but the fact that a lot of them immediately turn scripted whenever difficult questions are asked only serves to **** people off, oh and fix your swear filter.

it seems really strange that I can't type in my login info into the launcher and load right to the character select screen.

Infact, it would be sweet if we could actually select a character to log directly into from the new launcher. This of course would need character info, so it would only show up after you have logged in once already.

It also seems very odd that I had to download a patch with the launcher, and then another patch once I loaded into the login screen.

This near the top of our roadmap, but there are quite few moving pieces involved Smile.

Would we lose the animated login screen? I love that :( Would totally break my heart.

If you can login optionally... that's cool, but losing the animated login would be losing a trademark of EVE.

Oh, another thing... can we get a minimize to toolbar option?

I like having the option to get to the various websites/account management/open window, but it can get in the way, so just a thought for some of us that may want the launcher open more regularly, and ESPECIALLY if you add things like corp chat in there, or whatever.

Just a little curio: the Windows version of the launcher boldly advertises "FANFEST 2012: Inferno/ Dust 514 / The future of EVE" and has three little adverts for Power of 2, PLEX Services & Buddy Program. In the meantime the Mac version not-so boldly proclaims "Player Organizsations / Connect and Share / EVE Blog Pack".

Is there a reason for this difference?

I'm looking forward to the launch / character select / enter game process being streamlined. Having the game patching happening outside the game is handy. Now I can do the patching without my computers screaming at me (the start screen with that cool animation is the heaviest graphics load that EVE presents to my computer, except for environments involving multiple transparent glowing clouds).

So straight up, here are the benefits I have already reaped from the Launcher project:

  • it doesn't consume as much processor time or generate as much heat as patching within the game,
  • it's a smaller window so I can work around it rather than the constant switching back and forth between full screen and windowed mode (when is the patch coming that allows Mac version to work in windowed mode with 44 fewer vertical pixels?), and
  • it moves the useful links & news to the launcher instead of the character selection page (by the time I get to the character selection page, I just want to get into the game).

Thanks for the work so far, CCP.

It's a good first step, wow it has CCP ads, its not like there frigging showing coca cola and ford commercials why your patch loads shesh

Personally, my fingers are crossed that work on the Launcher means that we can finally buy and use key-fob authenticators soon.
