Minmatar Explorer / Miner / Engineer - Ship Advice needed

Hello all, after playing EVE Online off again on again since launch (I still have the original retail box Smile ), I have returned to give the game a proper go. What I am aiming for, what interests me most, is scanning for Gavimetric sites, and possibly Archaeology (Magnometric sites), mining the ore, and possibly creating whatever I can from them.

This sounds like a 3-way specialization, which is probably over-ambitious Blink , but my focus will be scanning and mining.
So, with that in mind, and me wanting to do this solo, what combination of ships would I need, or are best for me to use? And which ship would I use for which part of the process?

  • Scanning
  • Clearing out NPCs
  • Mining
  • Transporting

And, as I am just a starter at the moment with only basic frigates and industrial ships at my disposal (Burst, Wreathe), what is the next step of ships to aim for? And which step comes after that?

Any advice much welcomed! Big smile

If your looking for just one path to do all those things your going to have a hard time. To be efficient as a miner your path will be totally different than as an explorer.

Mining go str to the hulk, do not pass go do not collect. Along the way the retriever will be your first step, then coveter, then right on to hulk.

For exploration (assuming lowsec) your first step will be a cheetah for amar so you can speed run radar sites and get cash/exp scanning. Then get into a hurricane for the combat sites until you can get into a loki.

That's if your planning to stay only mini. Which isnt recomended for exploring. The Tengu will give you a much better hull for most cases in nul/low the legion can out perform in WH due to sleeper em resist. etc. And if your looking for nul your most efdicient will be with a sc/titan to be truely honest. But I dont think thats really what your looking for.

Specialist ships, I'd say.
For mining, yes, aim for the Hulk by way of the Burst, then Scythe, then to Retriever, Covetor, and then finally the mighty Hulk.
For exploration, the Probe is the one with the bonuses. Use that for scanning stuff down.
For archeology sites, not sure. Never done exploration myself.

For probing and site running a t3 is great, the most popular one is tengu for a reason. Just dont use the same fit for probing and running the sites, dock up and refit. Use a cloaky probing fit if its in null or lowsec.
Mining, hulk obiously.

Time you need to achieve your goal:

2-3 Months for mining (Hulk, solo)
4-10 Months PvE Ships for shooting NPC
4 Months for scanning ( if you take it serious)
2 Months for a freighter

You can then spend the rest of your EVE-life, to skill up Trading and Industry.

Also, for transporting things, skill up a bit and buy a Mammoth. For hauling lots of junk around highsec, it's the next best thing to an orca. And cargo rigged, it can even swallow a full jetcan. Gulp.
It's well worth the effort and ISK when you can afford it. Even just the basic ship with cargo expanders can fit a duckton of minerals and ore in it.

There is a certification path, in the Starter Professions for each race, called Engineer.
It has to do with building stuff. a combination of producing and research skills.
