Then and Now

In 2008 that was said to be A4D’s heyday. That is when we were supposed to be the best we ever were. On a good month, we would hit 900 kills. We were small and had to pick our fights carefully. Although we had a good core group; a corporation is very limited when you fly with 5 members.

The best month in A4D history was in 2008, where we managed 1070 kills, Over the past few months we have averaged between 700-950 kills. I had always wondered if we would ever get back to the so called glory days of A4D. Then something happened. Last month we hit 913 kills.

So I proposed a challenge to the other A4D members to break 1000 kills. Although a shortened month, and knowing I was going to be on holiday for half the month, the guys said they could do it without me(insert sad face). And that they did. while on vacation, the guys slaughtered everything! Not only did they slaughter everything, it was our EU time zones that were doing most of the damage.

Hats off to A4D’s European contingent I am so happy to have these guys in A4D I can’t describe it. Hats off goes to Mellivora Capensis 303 kills, Angela Constantine 296 kills, God Forbid 127 kills, LynxMF 102 kills, Pleniers 94 kills. Without you guys, we would have never eclipsed 1000 kills in a month. In fact, although we are on par to break 1300 kills most of the guys want to hit 1500.

Thanks for redefining the A4D glory days.

With one week left in February,
1014 kills (55.7Billion Isk)
197 losses (12.63Billion Isk)

Success follows Failure.

My favorite ship to fly is the Coercer, my second favorite is the Vagabond. Although I find it to be a big sluggish, it can do what no other HAC can do. A Vagabond can offer 420 dps and still hit 3500mps overheated, it is truly a wonderful ship to fly.

Yesterday, the perfect storm hit; my vacation was over, and my wife was busy watching her shows….that can mean only one thing. EVE TIME! So, I logged in to chat with the guys, many of them were busy so I ventured out by myself.

Within 5 minutes I had 6 or so guys asking where I was heading…I answered I don’t know, but you are welcome to come along. The general consensus was Vagabonds and Cynabals. I knew we didn’t have a true scout, but since I was going to head out alone anyway, I decided to head out first.

I got wind of a NC. gang hanging about, I knew minimally that they were twice our gangs size. The group thought was that we could kill one quick and get away pretty easy. So we followed them around until we found an enemy Vagabond. Lets just say, I didn’t follow orders and I got myself killed (lets move on please). So instead of killing a Vagabond, I ended up in a cloning facility losing my own Vagabond.

The guys were nice enough to head back to home base and pick me up. I always have an extra Vagabond or three in storage, so it didn’t take me long to get refitted. On the way back, the guys managed to jump the surviving members of a fight between Waterboard and Red Citizens...managing to hawk down a Vagabond.

http://www.appetite4destruction.net/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=11506

Although I didn’t get on that kill mail, it was nice knowing they offset my loss with a kill. Ironically enough, there was enough loot left over to pay for my loss. SCORE. We decided to head to a different destination, as we didn’t want to run into the NC. blob again. This time, we took the journey to Immensea. There seemed to be some yellow dots on the board.

Doctor Strangewrench was promoted to scout and he ended up finding a Dramiel, with a Zealot backup. We kind of figured they would have backup as well, so Doctor drew them back to our gate. Like expected, the Zealot and Dramiel engaged. Like expected, their backup jumped in and warped to the Dram who had our Vagabond scout tackled(so they thought).

After ample time to get the bad guys in warp, we jumped in our gate to see that most of the enemy gang was too far away although we were burning to them. Although we missed their Hurricane, Stiletto, Oneiros, Dramiel, we ended up killing their Zealot. Not too bad I guess.

http://www.appetite4destruction.net/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=11509

We made our way to the destination system, not really finding much of anything other than the Bringers of Death ‘s new home(good to know). It was getting late so we decided to head back home. On the way back, Doctor ran into the Oneiros that had escaped earlier. He was sitting on the gate, With a well executed bump, the Logistics ship was doomed.

http://www.appetite4destruction.net/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=11510

That was successful, we managed a Zealot and Oneiros, I can now go to bed happy. So we started to head home. And the same thing happened. A Drake was sitting on the other side of the gate, Doctor locked him up and made him jump into us. Tyler James executed a superb bump and we started to maul the poor Drake.

Since Doctor was still on the other side of the gate the order was given to lay off the damage. The guy was in 10% shields, but no one told this guy to stop firing. Although this guy would go down in short order…my shields were going as well…even more importantly I WAS POINTED.

In a nut shell, I was going to go down if I stopped shooting. Eventually the gang figured out that I was in trouble and started shooting again. It may have pissed me off to lose two vagabonds in under an hour. Luckily enough the guys saw it my way and dispatched the Drake. LOL…whew.

http://www.appetite4destruction.net/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=11513

Two jumps later, we ran into another Drake, this time we just mowed him down. Not much of a story. SSDS (Same Shite Different System)

En Authority Cascading Bedfellas

I spent a little over 5 months in AAA with the Collective. They had a decent group of people but it wasn’t quite my thing. No one there knew my name, no one cared to. In fact, it was probably the only time I had ever been in EVE where I wanted to quit the game. It was blob warfare on steroids. It was everything I despised about the game…it’s why I hate all sovereignty holding alliances to this day.

Last night we were out and about with a 6 roaming gang. We were speed tanked for the most part and looking for a small skirmish. We got wind from our EVE Animal Control friends that they might need some backup. The A4D gang was pretty much a Nano speed tank gang we weren’t exactly set up brawl it out with a 30 man gang, it was decided that we would keep the small ships off of the scimitars.

The opposing gang was about ten bigger than us, the problem is that they didn’t want to fight. We followed them around, and ended up catching them in S-E6ES. This time they decided to fight. Our gangs were similar in size and things worked out as expected, the A4D guys who could reach the primaries shot the primaries, the rest of us, shot the squishy stuff. (I was a squishy shooter)

I can’t tell you of everything we shot at as a gang, but I was shooting at a Harpy, Sabre, Ares, Stiletto…if my Dual 180’s could reach, I shot it. By doing this, it forced their Battle Cruisers to head away from the enemy logistics, this generated quite a few kills, while losing one Sleipnir (Eve Animal Control)

http://www.appetite4destruction.net/killboard/?a=kill_related&kll_id=11527

We tried to fight them again, but this time local filled to 100, our gang held for a good while but we couldn’t overcome the 75 man gang. We got most of our gang out, but A4D lost a Sacrilege.

P.S. If someone says bring a fast Heavy Assault Cruiser…THIS does not qualify. 1300 is NOT fast.

Just Saying.

3 Fights

Fight 1
We had a fairly active day yesterday. We had about 9 or 10 in gang, but really wasn’t doing much. For the most part we were doing what we call a ghetto gate camp. This type of endeavor places a scout 2-3 jumps down the pipe and allows us to jump in the right ships.

The first fight was with Nap or War. Although they typically run a bit too heavy for us, this time they had a decent gang and would be difficult to beat but that is the cross we bear. We had a bubble on the gate, most of us had reshipped into battle cruisers.

They had Ishkur, Rifter, Malediction, Thorax, 2x Caracal, Brutix, 2 Vagabonds, 3 Scimitars. It wasn’t an unbeatable fleet but the Scimitars made it difficult. Our gang showed up in 3xHurricane, Harbinger, Drake, Tornado, Talos and Falcon.

Realistically, we started off shooting their first Scimitar, We just simply couldn’t break its tank, those reps were substantial, we had already lost a Hurricane, Falcon, and Talos before we killed the Scimitar..it wasn’t going well. Bull who had just lost his Talos, switched to a Scimitar just as Shyla Styles logged in and brought a Scimitar as well.

The Scimitars turned the fight to our side. Although we had lost our first three ships, they didn’t have the DPS to break any more of our tanks. Slowly one at a time, we started chewing them up. Scimi 1, Scimi 2, Brutix, Vagabond, Thorax, Caracals….

The battle summary is messed up due to the gate camp earlier, but you can see the results below. To be honest the addition of our Scimitars changed the outcome. http://www.appetite4destruction.net/killboard/?a=kill_related&kll_id=11548

Fight 2
After giggling endlessly over a 16 minute fight, a second gang rolled through. This time, we decided to brawl. We missed them, on the RMOC gate, so we followed them to Hemin where they waited for us.

Imperial Ascension had 3 Drakes, Naga, Vagabond, Vexor, Deimos.
We had: 4 Drakes, Tornado, Hurricane

For some reason I uncloaked 3k from the Deimos. As I started to burn away, I was webbed and scrambled. And I managed to get the prompt beat down. And although I was out of the fight, it was still fun to listen to.

The Deimos died first, followed by the Naga, and a Vexor, at the end 2 of the three remaining Drakes warped off. We managed to get a scramble on the third Drake which we dispatched. We lost an additional Hurricane and Taranis. We held the field, and got enough loot to pay for any losses.

Fight 3

Although we like even fights because they are more exciting, we like to win. When we fight someone who we enjoy killing, we don’t care how many we bring. Enter our buddies from Waterboard.

Waterboard jumped into our system with a Wolf, Stiletto, Flycatcher, 3 Hurricanes, Vagabond…although we ended up having more DPS than them, we really had no idea what they were in before the fight. We chased them into Hemin….Deja Vu all over again.

Ironically enough, they decided to engage. A rarity in the Waterboard world. Like always we primaried their fleet commander Macks(we have a history). Once he ran off the confusion ensued. We systematically chewed through all of their Hurricanes and popped a really squishy Flycatcher. The rest ran away.

Fight 2 and 3 combined

Well Sygma was inclined to leave the last fight of the night out. Can't say I blame him. In the words of the Great Newsman Paul Harvey. Now....for the rest of the story. I'm a huge fan of the ole adage, "A picture says a thousand words". Im not much of a word smith , but I'll try to keep you following along.

Last night sygma logs on, and being that he hasn't played much lately, I thought I'd ride along. We decided to run nano long range ships as it was the theme of the last couple days, and we had some success with it. Of course we still ran into a couple of guys who always seem to want to bring the wrong kind of ships. http://pigroll.com/img/you_need_pants_to_fly.jpg

After the fleet was sorted and everyone was in a fast , long range ship, we proceeded to leave the area and check on how the -A- muppets were doing. We found some of their pets all docked up doing noting as we arrived. A little dishearten, we were deciding on who to visit next. One of our guys decided he needed to go home as his alcohol supply and playtime came to an end. The guy who is leaving said over coms. Hey man there is a gang camping the whq gate, they almost got me, you guys want to hit them? Well of course we do ya muppet. So we proceeded to go look for them. Sure enough the -A- pets were around the gate , doing what they do best, http://pigroll.com/img/twilight.jpg , so we decided to engage.

Now, in all fairness, we didnt really know what they had, we got some of it, but the pilot was trying to save his a$$ more than do recon so.. we said f()ck it. Now I know thats not the smartest thing to do, especially when we are jumping into them. But, in my defense, we only take ballers in this corp, and I'd fly with my guys, over anyone else in eve. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VUP9maLboQM/TlAaFa_V49I/AAAAAAAAGHY/kP0Vorh6f80/s1600/motivational%252520fearlesspenguin.jpg

So I jump in, and find that im in an onyx bubble, they have two sniper tier 3 bc's 80km off gate, several fast tackle on gate, and a plethora of assorted bc's on gate, oh joy. http://pigroll.com/img/perspective.jpg Hmmmmm, this idea sounded better when I was on the otherside of the gate. SO THEN IT HAPPENED, I had what my buddy lynxmf calls an american moment. I said jump in boys , the waters fine. My gang jumped in, and I thought i heard of a couple awww chits. Why did I call for everyone in? well... http://pigroll.com/img/because_fuck_you.jpg "American moment" nuff said.

Cloaks were held, primary, secondary and Tertiary were called. GIVEM HELL BOYS. Promptly we were given freckles, http://pigroll.com/img/freckles.jpg We lost a couple right off the bat as some forgot that they were in long range nano ships and proceeded to point, in a buble, and brawl. Now I know you want to kick the FC for making the call, and I try to lead by example, but who said I was a good role model? http://pigroll.com/img/halloween_costume_2.jpg

Hide sight being 20/20 and all that, I shouldnt have done that to the guys, I knew it was a bad idea but hey. ya cant make an omlet without breaking some eggs. http://pigroll.com/img/you_are_about_to_make_a_mistake.jpg . In the future, I will try to apply this wisdom, to make better decisions in the future and save my guys some isk http://pigroll.com/img/i_could_just_have_bought_a_hooker.jpg

Who am I trying to kid lol. I could always take the safe route http://pigroll.com/img/safety_first.jpg NAH not me. Ill just keep on doing it my way and see what i run across http://pigroll.com/img/om_nom_nom.jpg

For the month of February my mantra has been "If you camp it they will come". A4D live in a choke point system in NPC Curse and people most definitely come.

Now this is a double edged sword. There are many easy kills to be had as people blindly warp directly to a gate across a 67AU wide system. Darwinian theory would suggest that these are stupid people, and stupid people deserve all that their stupidity brings them. I will hold my hand up and admit that I have a bit of a bully streak in me (of which I am not proud) and have no remorse as they are pointed and popped. With the recent expansion we got the joy of implant details on pod kill mails. To someone like me the ability to fully enjoy the delights of the 'Prize Inside' just spurs me on.

Every now and again though this monolithic approach to the game spawns a really good fight. Darkside sent a bait Myrmidon into the camp. We bit and popped the Myrm as the cavalry landed. A Tengu, Proteus, Hurricane, Zealot and a Nemesis. We reshipped and got back to find the Tengu off the gate. The Talos' capped out and couldn't kill off the Tengu. The rest warped in and hilarity ensued. The Tengu pulled range but the others did not. A good fight marshalled well by Bullmastiff and mad props to Darkside for being ballsy. The story of the fight.

I do recognise that in Eve terms I may be becoming something akin to Jabba the Hutt, a bloated creature, moving little and demanding fresh victims to be brought to me. K-Q can do that to you. My resolve for March is to move about a bit more and maybe kill less but enjoy the game in a different way. The ability to do this is why I love A4D and all the people there who help you have fun.

So , as always , login this morning to find that the USA guys had had some sweet kills with EVE Animal . Gutted , and no doubt I'll hear all about it , the guys know how much I hate to miss anything . Well done gents ( feckers Blink )
A4D as always seems to find trouble where it can , I personally like it that way and I think all of A4D do , the mindset for us in corp is " Kill Them All "

There is something really cool about Sundays. Sunday is the day where everyone in corp. can play with each other regardless of time zone. Although I typically don’t have a chance to play with Alex, Melli, Lynx, and Plex, Lavoslav often; Sunday’s are the days I get to play with the killers from across the pond.

The day started with a pre-noon gate camp. Not one of my favorite things to do, but I didn’t have time for anything else so I participated. We ended up managing a few kills doing relatively nothing. We had a Russian beg to not be shot, which was entertaining. We had numerous people fly into the bubble, die, then fly into it again and die again, always good for a laugh.

Although I was happy to hang out with the guys, I was starting to think that my entire day was relegated to sitting on a bubble. Fortunately this was not the case. One of our scouts got wind that our neighbors in Hemin had a bubble up on the RMOC gate (reducing our traffic). HOW DARE THEY! We decided to remove their bubble.

We got in 4 Drakes and 2 Basilisks (we figured we needed the Logi practice). We motored on over to Hemin and popped their bubble, bada boom, bada bing. On our way back, we got wind of a 16 man BC gang….yikes. Since we only had six active guys we weren’t sure we could engage with just two Basilisks. Luckily Bull and another logged in so we at least had 8. We decided that although it may be close, this gang was engagable.

We had 8, so we figured 3 Basilisks and 5 BC would do the trick. They had 3 Sleipnirs, drakes, hurricanes, Claymore and a total of 16. It was going to be a brawl. So we warped to the gate and the FC started calling targets. The cap chain was up..and we both groups were firing.

They called Alex primary but the 8 large remote shield boosters were holding quite easily. The Red Legion gang de-agressed and jumped out. Our scout on the other side said they had drones out but we weren’t going to jump into that so we waited for them to come back. By this time we had an extra BC show up on our side giving us 6 BC’s.

The Red Legion gang jumped back in…calling Alex primary again…and failing miserably getting enough DPS to actually break his tank. They attempted to use EC-300’s on us but our Smart Bombs dispatched their drones. The first time around our FC called for the Sleipnir to be primary, this time he called “everything squishy”. We figured if we couldn’t break the tank on the expensive ships we would kill what we could.

After, some well executed target calling we killed 5 Red Legion.

http://www.appetite4destruction.net/killboard/?a=kill_related&kll_id=11732

A few hours later I log in and it is only me and Cy, pretty soon Syricon logged in, and then Blackrain McMillan. We decided to just toodle around locally and see what we could find. We went everywhere in the constellation and found it to be dead. Nothing, Zero, Not even Art of War was camping 8G, it was truly dead.

We decided to pass the time, by sitting on the CL gate. At this time we had 5 but none of us had serious time to invest, so we went for an easy gate camp. About 5 minutes into the camp, our friends in Eve Animal Control convod me. From the content he was mildly busy.

EAC: We have 4 caps tackled
EAC: Come to Farit
EAC: Hurry Hurry Hurry.
ME: What do you need?
EAC: Shield DPS.

So the five of us jumped in Drakes as it was the only ship I knew we all had and meandered over to Farit, we warped in to find the remnants of an Initiative Capital gang tackled. FUN!

The Thanatos was primaried, but they had Archon Triage Repairing him…thus it was taking a while. About that time Bull arrived in a Curse and the beat down ensued. Like dominoes the capital ship tanks started failing. Bull capped out the Triage carrier so the other Archon went down quickly. Followed by the second Archon. After they left the field, the Revelation went down in seconds. I guess you can say that our day was fun from beginning to end.

I logged in after work last night and some of the guys were sitting on a bubble. Now I know what you are thinking...bubble camping. I hate it as much as the next guy. I spent way too much time sitting on a bubble in my past to have affinity for it. However, that is neither here nor there. The guys had one up and since I had a few minutes, I decided to help out.

This month Curse has been traffic laden. With 3 players over 300 kills and one over 400 kills, you can't tell me there isn't anything to kill. In fact they are killing everything. I don't care if it is on a bubble or not, if they are killing things, and not losing Faction Fitted Tengus on Jita 4-4 I am happy.

Well anyway, we got wind of a Bringers of Def gang of 3 battle cruisers in RMOC, so we slipped into something a little more comfortable and went to intercept. Cythrex jumped in to get a tackle but they were at a tactical. He warped to and from the YKE gate but finally managed to have them warp near him at 70. He burned toward them hero tackling one of their Drakes....in the fray Cythrex died.

The good thing is that we got the other BOD Drake, then killed the Hurricane later when he tried to escape into Hemin. It really was rather anticlimactic. They had us 3-1 apparently, then when the true numbers prevailed, we had them 2-1. Of course they cried in local about blobbing...yadda yadda yadda. In this day and age 6 is a blob...its also our average gang size.

That ironically is the most exciting thing I did yesterday. Tonight we feast on blood.
