New honey hole

Going to the same spot every day can make getting kills difficult, once someone gets used to your tactics, and ship types and who to look for as a scout, they lay in wait for you to come then overwhelm you with numbers. It isn’t really that your tactics are bad, but an enemy that is familiar with your tactics is dangerous…. anything can be countered in EVE.

To counter the obvious in game bias toward blob warfare, we have to take our tricks and fleets to other regions and areas where people aren’t used to our tricks. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t. We scouted out a new pocket in Immensea, there is an alliance that had moved in to the old occupants space. Although we have been coming here for some time, we had no idea of their active numbers.

We went with a T1 Cruiser Gang consisting of 4 Vexor, Thorax, Rupture, 3 Omen, 2 Maller, 5 Exequror; formidable but not overpowered by any means. The enemy fleet was around 30 consisting of tons of tackling frigates and cruisers. Their gang momentarily disappeared…. I thought…this probably isn’t good. We killed a single rifter, and the rest warped off.

We got back on the gate and started heading back; there were 81 in local and 30 active. As we started to leave, their tackle was landing on the gate; we figured that if they hadn’t reshipped we had a chance. Unfortunately for us, they had reshipped and now we were stuck on a gate with (38) 3 Scimitars, 2 Lachesis, Devoter, Huginn, 12 Hurricanes, Tornado, 15 Light and heavy tackle.

We attempted to split them up, and it was obvious that we couldn’t get away, so we stayed and fought. We attempted to kill all the tackle we could but our Exequror were getting single volleyed. The Hurricanes were Arty Fit and we simply couldn’t keep our guys alive. Coupled with the fact that our usual Vexor fleet only had 4 Vexor’s. Our DPS was significantly lower.

We had 3 Scimitars tackled but couldn’t muster enough DPS to break their tanks in the way we had in December. We managed to kill some shite tacklers, who got some of our ships out, but overall we didn’t fare well. I understand them running to defend their rock, but it was a blob…we shouldn’t be engaging 40 dudes.

A4D Recruitment Blog: What to expect in A4D
2013.01.07

Taking fights outnumbered is the fun part of EVE, wiping out is the not so fun part of EVE….but to bask in the glory you must first take chances. We have been fighting bigger and bigger gangs recently…most always out numbered. It isn’t that we don’t want to fight with even numbers it is because we are a single corporation fighting against multiple corporations. We win more often than we lose, but we do lose…Mathematics > Skill for the most part.

Last week we took on a group 1/3 larger than we were, although we had 3 Logi, they had 3 also. The major difference was that they had a more DPS than we did and we couldn’t break their tanks…and they could break ours. Last night an A4D gang took on the same alliance but this time we prevailed…mostly because this time we had superior numbers. There was no bragging in local, there was no smack talk, there was only silence...as it should have been.

Happy Hunting Grounds

The Sioux, Iroquois, and Cherokee Native American tribes believed in the concept of the happy hunting grounds. The belief is simple; when a person dies they go to the happy hunting ground an afterlife version of the real world but where the wildlife was plentiful and easy to hunt. As a Player vs. Player Corporation, A4D is always looking for EVE’s version of the Happy Hunting Ground.

Although we have a few good spots to hunt, we survive by looking into new places and finding new hunting grounds. Recently I was told about a so called place in Period Basis…there are supposed to be an endless supply of easy prey such as Machariels, Vindicators and Vargur’s. THIS is the proverbial happy hunting grounds that we seek. Unfortunately Period Basis is in BFE…Curse to Catch, Catch to Delve, Delve to Period Basis, then Stain all the way home…2 billion jumps.

Since we have no concept of politics in our corporation we have no idea who lives where and who does what. To us…they are all prey. But to make this journey we need to take frigates…it is so far it would take twice as long taking anything else. We took 5 frigates and a bonus Tengu with us on a journey to find more rabbits to snare. I unfortunately got stuck with being scout and was lead rabbit finder.

On our way to Delve we found ratter in a system with 31 so we killed his awesomely tanked shield armor tanked Hurricane. We went another 20 jumps and nearly missed a few ratters, carriers in belts, and other failed tackles by our crap scout. We narrowly missed running into a blob or two, then finally did run into one. We never did find our happy hunting ground and we did manage a single kill, but we lost an Enyo in the process.

I know they are out there, and I hope to have more renters soon..or even momma alliances that are in groups less than 30…those TEST my patience. Either way we need more rabbits to snare.

Well it looks like the boss is busy, so I will sneak in.

So how do you read these recruitment posts?

I have been reading through the other corps recruiting posts and I am reminded of a real estate joke. A lady has her home up on the market for sale and it springs a leak in the basement, and the basement is flooded. She calls her real estate agent to discuss the problem and he reassures her, don't worry we will simply change the add to say, water view.

Here are some of the things to watch out for in the recruiting posts and a few translations of catch phrases.

We have recently relocated to .... This means we were getting our asses kicked and decided to try to find some place easier to live. A4D has lived in Curse for a good long time. It is our neighbors who decide to find some place easier to live.

Lots of room for advancement.... This means there is nobody in the corp yet but the two of us and our 3 alts.
A4D has had a stable player base with between 80 and 90 players for as long as I have known about them. And these players are not alts. If you want alts in corp they better be actively played or provide wonderful boosts. We don't have advancement. We have members. We don't politic, negotiate, train, so we have no need for the drama inducing power tiers of other corps.

We offer all types of game play from wormhole to pvp... Were really not that good at anything,
At a4D we do small gang pvp, period!

We plan too.... We don't, but we hope too.
At A4D, we do. And we do a lot, and often. Come do with us if you think you like small gang, null.

We are building... You will start having fun soon, but not quite yet.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of quality corps listed in this forum. But unfortunately there are a lot of plans that just won't come to pass. Choose carefully, and please consider A4D.

I lost your rapier

I have had quite a few “Shake my head” moments as CEO, this was yet another one. For every awesome pilot you have in a corporation you always have one pilot that “just doesn’t get it”. No matter how hard you work to become elite, there is always that ONE guy that is the corporation “window licker”. Now I don’t want to completely throw a corpie under the bus, but this story MUST be told.

It was 8pm GMT-5, we had 5 Stabber Fleet Issues, 2 Scythes, 1 Rapier, 1 Navy Caracal. One of my Scythe pilots said…I have to go to work tomorrow morning, I have to get back. The ironic thing is that this guy is one hour behind me, so he just told me he was going to bed at 7pm. I said: “Hey man that is one of the two most needed ships in this fleet, if you have to log out early, let me know BEFORE we leave”. He said “I did, in channel”. Thinking I missed it, I blew it off and said lets trade ships.

I said warp to planet VII at 100km. So we both warped to the planet, waited for our ships to hit 0kps, and I ejected from my Rapier. I approached the Scythe and clicked board ship. I said fly safe and the roam continued. We make it to our destination 5 jumps away and this message comes across fleet. “I lost your rapier”, I asked “Did you hit a gate camp”, “Warp into a bubble?” The response; “No I lost it; I don’t know where it is”. I replied “How did you lose it? “I forgot to get in it”…. “Seriously, how do you fly 3 jumps before you realize that you are still in a pod”.

He went back to the system to find a blown up stealth bomber wreck where my rapier used to be. So, if you are looking to join A4D we now have a spot open.

NEW CORP. REQUIRMENTS: You must be able to stay up past 7pm, you must be able to know how to board an empty ship, and be able to recognize when you are in a pod vs. a rapier. This skillset is a must.

GOAL REACHED

In late 2011 Plex, Bullmastiff and I were checking ourselves out in Battleclinic…all three of us were happy that we were in the top 1K or so and trying to figure out how we were going to move up. We then looked at A4D and noticed that it had been on a steady trend up. We were ranked 221; we decided to set the A4D goal of being a top 100 corporation by the end of 2012.

Unfortunately that did not happen; at the end of 2012 we were ranked 102! Although happy, that we had been performing well and our numbers were steadily climbing, we didn’t accomplish what we set out to do. But wait, I have some good news! Two weeks into January of 2013 we finally hit our goal. We are officially a top 100 corporation.

So who do we attribute this success to? Not me, Not Bullmastiff, nope. I can say with 100% certainty that this was accomplished by the hard work and dedication of each and every member of A4D. These members put it on the line every day, they are prepared, they are disciplined (ok, working on that one), and they are pretty darn good at what they do….killing.

We cap A4D out at 100 members which means we have about 50-60 active with alts, we are currently holding at 84 members which means there is still room to join. Join our public channel to be apart of this truly incredible corporation.

If you plot a trend line of our Battleclinic standings for the last year, and do a regression analysis of the last 5 months an interesting development can be identified. As it turns out this correlates very closely to the time of my arrival. Am I saying the meteoric rise of this corp in the last 5 months is directly attributed to me. No, I am not saying it, but numbers do not lie.

We have more than that guy

There are 2 or 3 major blue love fest power blocks in the area. Being in an organization of this size means you a limited to huge lag fest fleets, shooting unmanned objects (POS), Titan bridging 5 man gate camps, or finally having enough to form a small roaming fleet of 50. To us this is beautiful; this means we have an infinite number of people to kill.

Over the past week we have had limited roams, sticking mostly with gangs of 10 or under, we have had almost zero gangs over 15 like we did in December. Since our numbers are so limited we have went back to the fast moving gank fleets. This allows us to cover more ground and find more targets and scout more hunting grounds.

Our time was limited last night so we took out a four man gang 2x Enyo, Argos and an Ishkur. We had no logistics ships, but were running with multiple tracking disruptors and local reps. Our plan was simplistic “find turret based ships and kill them”. We haven’t been to the pocket behind HLW since NC Dot had moved out so we decided to scout it.

We caught wind of a Cyclone so we went looking for it. He was not in a mood to fight as he probably figured that he couldn’t win (he was right). We chased down a Celestis, but we were all short point fit so we missed him 3 on three gates. Ironically the pilot came back to fight us in a Rupture and put up a pretty decent fight but we shot his drones and had him tracking disrupted so he was an easy kill.

We had to run from 6 Hurricanes and a Slicer tackler, but our destroyer got caught by a pretty well executed plan on their part. All and all this roam was a wash; killed a Rupture and lost and Algos. We had been hitting our hunting grounds so hard that we need to let them be for a while; we will be scouting more of Curse tomorrow and a little bit of Wicked Creek maybe.

Won the Isk War, Lost the Battle

Since we achieved our goal of top 100 on Battleclinic we decided that we should set some more goals. We figured that the only way for us to get better as a corp. is to become better pilots on average, this means as individuals we will be taking out more gangs and getting into more engagements; more repetitions equals better prepared. We are looking for more people with this mindset.

Pleniers and I decided to take out a couple ships and see what we could find. Like always we had a few people join us so our fleet grew in numbers from two to six. Our gang: (6) 2x Harpy, Catalyst, Thrasher, Coercer, Incursus. We set waypoint to Wicked Creek; it wasn’t until we got to 5DE before we actually found any signs of life. Then local jumped by 10. GAME ON!

Knowing we were a fairly fast fleet and could get out if the bad guys brought too much for us to handle, we decided to wait and see what came up on our scanners. We were in luck, it was a manageable fleet. We were outnumbered 10 to 6 but we had a chance. Enemy Fleet: (10) Rupture, Ishkur, Wolf, 2x Flycatcher, 2x Taranis, Federation Navy Comet, Imperial Navy Slicer, Merlin.

We went for the squishiest thing that landed first…and killed one Flycatcher, then a Taranis. About that time they popped our Incursus, then our Thrasher. We had four ships left, they had eight, and it wasn’t looking good for the good guys. But then in a blaze of flying sheep dung we rallied to kill their Wolf. We focused fire then blasted their second Taranis, Ishkur, their second Flycatcher and then the Fed Comet. The coercer was shredding them and being completely disregarded. MISTAKE on their part.

Although we had killed the majority of their fleet our remaining ships had taken some major damage, their Rupture managed to get a web and scram on Pleniers Harpy and he went down. They were now on me and my beloved Coercer (That wasn’t very nice of them). They had a Rupture, Imperial Navy Slicer, and the Merlin left and all we were down to a Coercer and a Harpy. The Slicer and Merlin came at me but the Slicer got out of my range so I switched to the Merlin who now had me warp scrambled.

I was now being pounded by their three remaining ships, as entered into Armor (shield tanked ship), I aligned for the Sun, swapped out to my multi frequency crystals and fried the Bejesus out of the Merlin. I thought to myself, “What would Tom Cruise do? That’s right, “It’s time to kick that Slicers a$$”. I aligned to a celestial, swapped to my Scorch crystals hit F1 and then popped. It was a fun fight.

The Rupture managed to kill web, scramble and neutralize our last Harpy. We managed to come out of the fight at 76% Isk efficiency but didn’t hold the field. Outnumbered but never outclassed…WE ARE A4D.

Shooting the Fat Kid

There is always a fat kid - that one ship that just isn't keeping up with FC orders to warp, jump, whatever. Sometimes he is almost a whole system behind. Sometimes he was late to join the fleet and is hurrying to keep up. Whatever the reason, he has just become prey.

When you are a small group, surrounded by huge roaming gangs of hostiles, you learn to find ways to hurt them while frustrating their efforts. In A4D, we love shooting their fat kids.

Last night a fleet of roughly 40 hostiles moved through our home system. We didn't have nearly enough to take them on head-on, so we waited till they passed. When we saw them returning, we knew we would have a shot. We setup one guy at a perch one system ahead of them, and another on a perch on the other side of the gate. When the main fleet came into system, we waited until the bulk of them had warped away, then went after the stragglers. A couple managed to get to warp quick enough to avoid tackle, but one poor slob didn't make it - the claymore bonuses. Some solid bumps and webs made sure he wasn't getting back to the gate. Meanwhile with scanners running, we proceeded to start tearing down his massive tank.

A minute later, scimitar on scan alerts us to his buddies returning. Amazingly though, local started dropping - they were leaving him! Scimitar lands and starts repping. We grab tackle on the scimi and switch fire to him. He runs for the gate forgetting that he now has aggro and can't just jump. Oops. By this time a handful of reinforcements have landed and the scimi dies. With no backup coming, and the repper dead, the claymore dies quickly.

Without bonuses and missing a logi that fleet is severely weakened for all of its remaining roam that evening. We hate blobbers, and we find ways to hurt them.

I have been in a few SOV holding alliances in since joining EVE in 2004, my first was Xetic, where I was dragged down to Feythabolis and told to shoot things in my Caracal, I had no concept of how to survive, and no idea how to play the game. That was where I first saw the Burn Eden Sensor Damp Raven and found out firsthand what it could do to a cruiser. OUCH.

I dumped “The Legion of Steel Warriors” and moved to Geminate Region where I met some ebil pirates named Gods Unwanted Children, they taught me a lot about the game. We briefly ruled Geminate for a while but once the targets dried up we decided that it was time to move on. We figured that we should join an alliance and make some isk (Pirates used to be poor), we joined Veritas Immortalis. Unfortunately we joined during SOV takeover and since we didn’t have the isk to participate we left.

During a leaderless time in A4D I was burnt out and joined The Collective (Against All Authorities). I needed a place where I didn’t have to do everything…or at least I thought that is what I wanted. I remember trying to take a fleet out but since no one knew me…crickets. I offered some thoughts on Curse region once and was told that my idea was stupid. Then came the assault on Providence region; I jumped into GE- prepared to fight. 3 loads of laundry later my screen loaded.

That is when Bullmastiff decided he had enough and decided to reform A4D. And the rest is history. That is when we decided that we would do things differently; we used our experiences to know what NOT to do. We do our best to differentiate ourselves from alliances. We want people to know that you don’t have to join an alliance to pvp; in fact it is more fun when you can kill everyone rather than a select set of blues.

A4D is a good corporation with really good members, we truly only have 50 active members so our gangs are usually very small. Everyone in our fleets has a job to do, we work as a team; we have to! We often have to take gangs on larger than us, Twice this month we have taken on gangs of 30 with 15 guys and won. Not bad considering we weren’t kiting we were brawling. If you are interested in such a corp. contact us.

Mom, I’m Bored

I was down in Florida last week visiting my parents when I got a cryptic email which is the A4D equivalent of “Mom I’m bored”. The guys weren’t getting enough kills and they wanted a vacation spot in another region. After a minor logistical freak out I had to ask myself the question. Why the guys were bored? Hadn’t we just owned 3-4 alliances in brawls and killed 4-5 cap ships? And THAT was the issue.

It’s not that we are getting fewer kills but the quality and fleet types in January are vastly different than those that had taken place in December. This month we have been mostly flying hit and run gangs that are limited to smaller ships of less Isk value. What happened was the guys were on a month long adrenaline high and killing a Drake was no longer enough. We had dominated the competition and have major blood lust.

December Kill: 1335 Lost: 399
January Kill: 1088 Lost: 355
December Isk Killed: 192B Isk Lost: 20B
January Isk Killed: 59B Isk Lost: 16B

There are four days in January and I figure that by the end of the month the numbers will be very close in volume but not isk. We will be taking out more fleets and trying to kill everything we can to try and quench our blood lust. We will be creating a vacation spot in a different region but we will do it right.
Any suggestions? Stain? Geminate? Fountain? Syndicate? We are looking for a region to torment for a week or two.

I didn’t see that coming

A long time ago when I was about 16 there was this girl named Michelle; she was beautiful; she was platinum blonde, athletic, had a great smile and was WAY too hot to hang out with me. I mean she was gorgeous! One day she decided that she wanted to have a little fun and I was the schmuck she chose me of all people. When I think back to that day I still laugh maniacally like Vincent Price.

So where am I going with this? After some reflection, I realized that it wasn’t that she chose me, I did something that attracted her to me, it could have been my naïve charm and bulging muscles(no), it could have been the huge load of bovine excrement that 16 year old me spewed out of my mouth on any given day(more likely). If I knew I would have sold books on the subject years ago. The point is that I had a plan, executed the plan, and reaped the rewards.

The same goes with EVE. We have been running a ton of fast Nano fleets lately to counter the massive amount of Titan bridging that goes on in this area. We were running 10-15 man armor fleets and getting bridged by 40+. The increased mobility helps you in many ways, it helps you get to a destination quicker, helps you keep safe longer, allows you to run away when you need to, and get to your quarry faster.

Last night, we had limited time so we went out to scalding pass and hunted around J2 but there weren’t many active so we looked at the map and decided that we were fast enough to try one last spot in Wicked Creek. Had we been armor fit this wouldn’t have happened but since we were fast and furious, we thought…meh, why not. The entire way there, empty, empty, empty, empty. When we landed on our out gate in F-3FOY Bling! Hot girl landed in our lap. AB Faction Fit Tengu.

January Closes

Today is the last day of the January and the A4D loot hangar is hovering around 2-3 Billion ISK worth of loot which will be purchased by A4D and distributed to our members. Here is how we pay our members. We sum up the isk killed by all active members, we average it out, and any member that killed more than average gets their share of the loot. This month we have roughly 15 members that will receive approximately 150 million isk for their efforts.

For a corporation that does not engage in Capital Ship warfare we managed to kill a lot of Capitals in December. We managed to kill a Titan and 4 carriers…not bad. We managed to kill a couple officer fitted battleships, and a Faction fitted Sleipnir worth about 4 billion. The loot gods were kind to us and our Loot hanger bloated to 15 billion isk. Needless to say this month’s loot compared to last month’s loot gave a lot of members the sad face. Sad

I have heard a LOT this month that there are no targets, and everyone is sad that there is nothing to kill. More accurately the quality of the kills was not as great not the quantity. Last month we had just over 1300 kills, this month we have roughly 1200. Our problem is that we just don’t have enough idiots that officer fit their ships flying right into us. So I am going to plea to you all, PLEASE PLEASE come to Curse in your officer fitted ships. We require your demise.

To be honest, what I should do is recruit renter alliances for Test and Initiative. Hmm, that is an idea, I will get right on that.

KTHXBYE
