It’s all in the details.

The day before yesterday I hadn’t had time to do anything relating to EVE…ok, I read my eve mails, transferred funds, cleaned up the corp. hangar, was bothered by no less than 5 or 6 people inquiring about A4D. When it was time to pvp, it was late and I was ready for bed. No kills for me.

Before I logged on to EVE, I went to class and was teaching some of the finer points about a particular guard pass(Yes, I am a martial arts guy). While performing that pass, there are some details that you pick up through experience. This group of students was simply going through the motions, and not really understanding the point of the exercise.

The guard pass is going from a neutral position, to a superior position. The problem lies that if you try to pass someone’s guard, and they hook your leg, then you are stuck in half guard which sucks because you are stuck wrestling another 5 minutes(wasting precious energy). So when you train the pass, it is just as important to not get in half guard as it is to actually passing the guard.

This translates well to EVE where even in a target poor environment you can get the kill mail. You simply have to do the little things.

TylerJames jumped in his Crow in to the Krysis home system scan down the system. There was nothing but a Cyno Kestrel on scan…so I told TylerJames to kill their Cyno. As TylerJames was killing the Kestrel, an Archon jumped in and second Archon undocked. TylerJames killed the Kestrel and warped to the Star having kicked the hornets nest

Time to see if Krysis wanted to play. TylerJames warped his Kestrel back to the station at 100. They then undocked a Flycatcher and a Muninn….SCORE. I had TylerJames warp to the Star again to see if they would follow, then I wanted him to align to the gate where we were sitting.
Within 15 seconds the Muninn and Flycatcher landed at the Star just as TylerJames warps to the gate we are sitting on. They took the bait, now time to set the hook.

Another 15 seconds goes by and the Muninn lands 100 off the gate and the Flycatcher lands at 0. The Flycatcher jumped into us and held his cloak. At the same time I ordered TylerJames to tackle the Muninn. 5 Seconds later the Muninn was tackled and we all jumped in…2 Tracking Disruptors, and a Kitsune jam and the Muninn was going down

We ignored the Flycatcher getting all DPS on the Muninn. As the Muninn was in deep structure, 2 battle cruisers landed on gate…well out of range of us at 100. We scooped the loot, and warped off and rallied up. While jumping through the gate, they had a Hyperion on the other side…We didn’t have the DPS to kill him and since we thought he was bait…we went home.

In essence it is the little things that got us that kill. TylerJames shooting their Cyno, not directly warping to a gate(looks suspect when you do that), Calling for a tackle before the Flycatcher could give intel about us, Our Crow not wasting time and actually getting the tackle. It is the details that gets you kills, the small things add up. We may not know how to hot drop, but we know how to get kills.

Friday night and as usual, there is nothing happening. My preference of ships is the Vagabond and although I love the ship…I don’t have one. And due to the goofy arse shite going on in Empire, I probably will not have one any time soon. So, I decided that once again, we would head out on a frigate roam.

Like always, we extended an invitation to our blues and we had a few takers. We ended up with 1 Sabre, 2 Kitsunes, Thrasher, Raptor, Taranis, 2 Daredevils, and a Dramiel. We had enough ECM to fight 3-4 and enough damage to take them down without much fuss. For some reason Friday nights are not overly filled with people playing, . in fact it is down right sparse.

We decided to take a long trip and see what was in Feythabolis. Since I hadn’t really been there since I was a noob in Xetic in 2005, I figured it couldn’t hurt. There was a big blip on the screen and we were determined to see if we could kill some of that blob. We took an indirect route looking for anything we could find…nothing.

About 3 jumps out our scout picked up activity. These people are not used to visitors so we assumed they were determined to get us out…the only thing being…we weren’t showing our hand. We sent our scout in another 3 jumps to see what he could find. Carriers in complexes, ratters, anomalies. Our goal was not to engage them and have our scout hold on…we wanted to make them come to us. And it worked.

By now they wanted to chase out Delta’s Sabre out of system. So a Crow started chasing Delta to us. Since our gate was bubbled our plan was simple. Have them chase Delta into their own bubble, Delta would cloak up, and they would enter their own bubble to decloak him…we would jump in and start pointing things.

Unfortunately for delta, he had barely cloaked as the Crow landed on top of him and decloaked him. We were a little slow on the intel so we were too late to jump in and jam the Oracle before we lost our sabre. We were in time to scramble the Oracle and jam him out. About the time we jumped in a Sleipnir landed…and Smoker pointed him instantly. Both Kitsunes were easily taking care of the Sleipnir and Oracle…

The Oracle popped first, then the Sleipnir went down. We looted and managed to stick around to get Delta’s pod out of the bubble safely…they did warp in a Hyperion and two battle cruisers…but we were already off grid. Eventually we made it back to the gate without issue. The Hyperion was on the other side of the gate but we warped as we figured it was either bait or a smart bomber…either way bad for us.

We took our two kills and went home finding nothing to kill on the way back. I have to admit, I love frigate fleets, their only issue is that they are squishy. The Kitsunes truly make a huge difference in the fleet composition of a fleet. Although Kitsunes are douchey…they are effective. We only lost Delta because he didn’t mention he was uncloaked in time…otherwise we could have saved him. Next time…next time.

Technically we are not recruiting, we brought in too many too fast and many disregarded A4D’s simple rules of being on Teamspeak, not being in our area of operation, and not participating. For now it is not a priority for us to recruit as we are still trying to sort out the trial members. I am not saying we won’t take someone, just saying we aren’t actively recruiting. Now on to the fun stuff.

For once I had some time to play…yes that is the reason for the lack of updates. I tend not to write when I have nothing to write about. So we had an informal gang up, with skirmish bonuses. We were in our home system, just chatting on Teamspeak like always, and I hear from incorr….crap…I just got single volleyed by a Vigilant and a Vagabond on the CL gate. It took a while for us to figure out she was fighting because of incorr’s resistance to get a working microphone. Type, type…hour later response, response. By the time we had figured out what was going on, they had jumped out and moved on.

About 5 minutes goes by and I see two Drakes coming from the opposite direction. I called for backup, and incorr undocked a Thorax, I undocked in a Brutix, Bullmastiff in a Kitsune, and Zantaar in a Sabre. Although we had the tactical advantage by bringing the Kitsune, we held that advantage for no more than 5 seconds. As we entered warp to the RMOC gate, the Vigilant and Vagabond jumped in from CL and warped themselves to the RMOC gate as well….We weren’t sure if they were with the Drakes or not, but we were in it to win it so we stayed.

We started shooting Drake 1 as the Vigilant landed, I threw my drones on the Vigilant and he burned away….It gave the illusion that I was going after him as primary although I had my guns turned on the Drake…Within seconds the glass cannon Thorax and the Brutix were ripping through the Drakes shields like a hot knife through butter. The Vigilant and Vagabond popped Bulls Kitsune and made range as they didn’t know it was a three way fight either.

We then turned to the second Drake, ripping through his shields as fast as the first. Although the Vaga was at 130, the Vigilant was at 70 and starting to close. I hit approach and overheated my micro warp drive. He started hitting me with Neutron Blasters at 40 so I knew he had in Null. As soon as I hit 30 I pointed and just kept going, and then…Antimatter range. I was down to 80% shields, and his shields were failing. Unfortunately incorr popped as they called her primary.

I kept blasting, and the Vigilant kept going down as Bull arrived in a Harbinger. Zantaar had earlier reshipped into a Curse knowing his Sabre was too squishy. It was a great move as the Curse shut down the Vagabonds MWD and since we were all in optimal...BOOM goes the Vagabond I think overall they were shocked how fast we were at getting on top of them. With our gang bonuses my Brutix overheated was going 2100 and bulls Harbinger was going 2400. I think they thought they could kite us but didn’t realize we were as fast as we were.

All and all it was a good fight, it could have went bad, but ended up in our favor. 4 Kills 2 Losses

I did lose a Coercer earlier in the day, but I don’t want to talk about that one. Sad

I say often that I think Cal 7 is one of the finest scouts I have ever met, over the past 6 or so months I have been listening closely and paying attention to figure out his order of operations, The one thing I notice that about Cal is that he is always feeding information. By giving up so much information it allows the FC to change tactics on the fly and gives the gang some background information so they don’t have to ask as many follow up questions.

Since I was scouting last night, I decided to feed the FC information in a Cal7esque way. This seemed to assist the FC greatly in making decisions. The FC, would give a statement, and simply ask “Are my directions clear?”, when there were questions we executed the plans. Did they always work? No, but we did manage to follow directions better than normal. It was a productive roam.

So we started this roam on Diablo 3 day…so no targets. The usually WRG gate camp was not in full effect, and there was no one out in space…so I told the FC to head to Jorund gate, I jumped in and scanned a Nomad on station with a Cyno…of course as I land as the Nomad jumps out…So we killed the Cyno.

I was then sent to Doril….empty….so next in the queue was Utopia. As luck would have there was another Cyno up so I scanned to make sure it wasn’t at a pos. Nope, no POS. It was an Cyno Omen with a Nidhoggur repping it. So I started firing, and called the gang in. As the gang landed, we fired at the Omen….and fired at the Omen…and fired at the Omen. Shield and armor tanked Cyno ships take a while to kill I guess. Killed another Cyno.

Next up was a trip to the WLAR loop. Since I was scouting I found a Tormentor on scan…I warped to a tactical on the outbound gate and there was the Tormentor. I warped to the gate, to find him sitting still 17km off gate. It looked like a trap so I shot it without the gang jumping in. Although he just sat there and died…he did have a Cyno fitted. So again, we killed another Cyno.

After finishing the loop and finding nothing, we decided to head to KDF…nothing. We went through the Rookie Empire space to find just a few possed up ratters…again, nothing. We took the gang to our new favorite spot Legio Astartes space. As I jumped in there was a Cyno up and since there were 8 in local what better way to pick a fight than popping a Cyno. As I warped there, started to beat on the Cyno but the carrier that was guarding it decided that I needed drones on me.

I was taking too much damage so I warped off and as I was warping back…Cyno down. There was one Cyno we didn’t kill today. Since we didn’t want to give up what we had, the gang stayed on the HY gate. I warped over to the EX6 gate and there were two haulers. I pointed one, and was going to cycle my points, but the second warped off. I called the gang as there was a gate flash.

The gate fire was from an Atron that decided to engage…so I kept my point on the Mammoth and started shooting the Atron. I was about to cycle my point from the Mammoth to the Atron but the Atron warped off in structure. I put the damage back on the Mammoth and we killed him. He didn’t have a Cyno fitted but he did have a Coveter in his cargo hold…two for the price of one.

The trip home was uneventful, HED-GP was empty, we did almost get a tackle on a Tengu in WD, but alas…missed it. We then went to visit 3B but they weren’t active although they had 10 in local. As I jumped into VOL-ME I warped to a tactical near the 8G gate. I picked up a Hurricane sitting on the HLW gate, so I warped there and jumped through…hoping for him to follow me.

When he jumpd in I was 28k away, I overheated my MWD and started firing, as I entered orbit I called in the guys to warp to the HLW gate. Even though I had the cane in Armor in my little Imperial Navy Slicer, he called for backup and 2 more canes showed up. I told the FC to NOT jump in, and I burned away to safety. Although I think we could have killed one or two of them, we would have lost a LOT of ships. Canes are the bane of everything frigate. We headed home with a few crap kills and no losses

Although both CEO’s of A4D are North American, the amount of people we have during our time zone is significantly less than our European counterparts. When limited on numbers (the A4D mantra) we have to be incredibly efficient. When flying with 5-6 you can not be wasteful, we can’t bring ships that add no value. We have to know how each other flies, we have to know what each other are thinking and we have to follow the FC’s orders.

Although our Euro time zone is larger, many of the members are newer and haven’t had the time essential to gel together as a team. When you have many cultures, languages it sometimes it takes a lot longer to organize. One of the largest issues in a cross cultural time zone is finding a leader that everyone knows, respects, and trusts. Not that we don’t have such leaders we do, its just A4D doesn’t have defined FC’s or Titles that officially distinguishes this guy or that guy as “The Boss”.

Because of this lack of “Official Titles” it seems that we some minor communications breakdowns. Although we have been sending out mails for months about required ships, many people who didn’t want to read English ignored the eve mail, others simply didn’t see it as a priority, and I can understand that. Unfortunately, that isn’t good enough and if you cost you cost us a kill because you were ill prepared, I will let you know about it.

Monday of this week we tried to formulate a Logi fleet, of the 8 people in gang, 2 of them brought the correct build. If one person does it…its an oversight. if 8 people do it, the leader isn’t getting message across(my bad). We docked the entire fleet dock up and passed on the engagement. If we hadn’t, we would have had a complete wipe. We build things a certain way for a reason.

Yesterday however was a completely different story, we managed to have everyone in the correct ships and the fleet was looking strong. We had scouts two jumps out and realized that Raiden had hot dropped our neighbors. Raiden had 2 Scimi, 3 Cane, Drake, 3 Vagabonds. We undocked 3 Stabber Fleet Issues, 3 Guardians, 4 Hurricanes, 1 Harbinger. We knew we had a better fleet but since they were hot dropping…we didn’t know what would follow.

We warped to the YKE gate and had the BC jump through, leaving the Stabbers and guardians alone. Raiden jumped in from RMOC, scanned down our fleet on the YKE gate and engaged. As soon as they had a couple ships red box we engaged, When we brought in the our battle cruisers their Vagas and most of their Hurricanes bugged out leaving them with a Drake, Cane, 2 Scimitars on gate.

We neuted out Scimitar 1, threw our Jamming Drones on Scimitar 2, pointed both battle cruisers, and took out the Cane then the Drake. It wasn’t the most awesome of engagements, but it was an efficient. Most importantly, I got a chance to fly with guys I rarely fly with and they executed flawlessly. I don’t’ want to chest pound and say how awesome we are, we were supposed to win that fight. Raiden did the right thing, we would have wiped their entire fleet. 3 Guardians > 2 Scimitars

The FC said we are going in Vagabonds today, so we hammered out who would fly the support ships and who would fly the damage and jumped on the road. CL was empty, so we jumped in to 8G which was also devoid of people which in itself is strange. Art of Warp has been on that stupid bubble for years. The next few systems were also not active.

Our destination system was HY-/EX6 which is our favorite honey hole in all of EVE. The reason being is that they like to carebear a lot, and they like to form up fleets to kill people that disturb their carebearing. They don’t come in incredibly huge fleets and are challenging at times. That and they always have a couple retards that jump ships through gates without scouts. I am all about killing retards.

This day Legio wasn’t overly active as they had been the past couple days. We tried to prod them into forming up but I think they were mostly afk. Our Scout bull said, lets try this other system 3 jumps away, so we left EX6 En Route to BUZ-DB. When Bull jumped in, he said. Holy ****, Nightmare on gate. Jump in and warp to the BUZ gate…we all obliged. When we landed he said, pointing the Nightmare….Red Boxed.

Of course we all jumped in and started burning down the Nightmare, about that time a Gila jumped in and started helping the Nightmare. We got the Gila pointed. As the Nightmare hit structure, we soon all over the Gila. As the Gila was hitting armor, a Tornado warped in at Range, and although we were really close to having a tackle, he warped off, the same with a Drake that warped in at range. Luckily a stealth bomber arrived just in time to die.

We decided to leave but stayed to kill a bait Maller that was following us. Unfortunately he decloaked 8500 from me and got me warp scrambled. I dropped EC drones too late and ended up not getting out. It was all my fault but I can live with that, we killed a freaking Nightmare AND a Gila. I didn’t like that Hugin anyway. ;)

Although we try to have pretty high efficiency, sometimes we fail at that goal. It only takes one bonehead loss, one slip flying the wrong ship at the wrong time and your entire killboard is a nightmare. For instance, it took one loss of an officer fitted Golem and a High Grade Slave implant set and our corp. efficiency dropped by 8%. That is a large hole to dig out of.

We have no shortage of guys in the corp. that love to sit on gates and gank everything that passes by (and I find perfectly acceptable). To be honest, to keep your efficiency high you must either gank the hell out of everything or fight with overwhelming numbers. Either way, you bring more than the next guy has. I am pretty much just blessed to have a really good corp. that loves to kill everything.

Since I prefer NOT to sit on a bubble it takes me a while to help dig us out of any hole we have dug ourselves into. This weekend had a lot of decent kills, but no real volume. Since we were fighting outnumbered we had to use tricks and guile. Although we were successful we only managed modestly raise our efficiency this weekend.

Thank God for En Garde..I can not thank them enough for them being them. With a Nightmare kill on Thursday, a Tempest Fleet Issue on Friday we were excited to see what else they would lose this weekend. Although we were on a Recon mission during the day Saturday, the nightshift was out in full force. We studied our prey, and now it was time to kill.

I really don’t know what is up with Legio/En Garde’s intel channel…but just like in Office Space. Someone didn’t get the memo. For some reason they engaged us on station with a Tengu. And with only a Drake as backup, the Tengu died. Truly he had no chance. That was too easy but we wore out our welcome so we decided to visit Providence.

We managed a few ganks but few fights. Cane, Drake, Cheetah, Iteron II…nothing to write home about. We lost one or two to a 30 man Severence blob, but I think they were just pissed we kicked their ass in the alliance tournament last year.

Although I missed a couple of the roam, the guys managed a few battleship kills, and a few more kills. Tornado, Oracles, Phantasm; blah blah blah I wasn’t there. I don’t want to discuss it. NOW FOR THE FIGHT!

We were sitting in Legio Astartes home system, Bull was scouting and playing with the locals. They had Rifters with fighters attached, they had 3 Drakes out, They had battleships. I remember talking to bull when he read off the list of what they had…All I said was you know what? They don’t have enough.

So when the Drake #1 red boxed, Bull, we jumped in and started mowing down the Drake. Even they called Bull Primary, he managed to get out of their warp disrupt range. They then turned to kogel and kogel managed to get out of their range. The first Drake popped, the second Drake was now starting to go down.

As a third Drake undocked, the second Drake popped, Drake number three decided to not aggress and meet the same fate of the first two. By this time, local went up by 5, we went to our out gate and wouldn’t you know, the punk asses had a heavy interdictor blocking our way. So we went the long way around. Just in case they were going to bridge to us, I moved my scout up to watch for us. Luckily for us the posse chasing us was a bunch of morons. They were chasing down 5 Stabbers with a bunch of battleships. Ironically enough they didn’t catch us.

No matter how long you play, sometimes you simply bork your tactics. Pleniers was keeping this group of ships busy while waiting for us as backup. Pleniers was flying an Arbitrator, the enemies were in a Lachesis, Talos, Cynabal and 2 Interceptors. We were coming in 4 Stabber Fleet Issues, and a Hurricane. The target had no scouts, so we knew were not made as we landed on the Constellation gate(yes the big one).

After playing a number of years, I have no idea why we decided to warp the Arbitrator down to the gate. Of course this would prompt what? Them to jump an interceptor in to make sure that the Arby didn’t get away. Since it was a regional gate now the arbitrator was too far away to point anything slow enough that we could kill. He should have came in at range or waited for the captors to burn toward him so he could warp to the gate. Either way, they warped off and we got zero kills. 8 jumps for nothing.

0 Kills 0 Losses

We had arrived back in our home system and there was a residual bubble sitting on the CL gate. Although we were all in station, we were active. We had about an hour left in our night and were figuring out where we wanted to go. About that time, Samosa caught wind of a Machariel, 2 Basilisks, Drake, Tornado coming. So we jumped in 7 Drakes and 2 Basilisks.

We engaged on the CL Bubble (Left by our EU counterparts) and started lighting up the first basilisk that uncloaked. They had no drones out, so we popped all our ECM drones on their Second basilisk, eventually breaking lock and dooming the first. Since none of us were fitted with a Warp Scram…the Machariel moved away from our gang. We did manage to kill their Drake, and the rest of their gang left.

2 Kills 0 Losses

We stayed in that gang as we saw a small gang consisting of a Sacrilege, Hurricane, Thorax, Dramiel, Taranis coming our way. We waited for them but they turned back around. We then decided to reship into something a little faster than a bunch of Drakes. Of course, many didn’t have the ships we called for so we ended up getting an eclectic group of random crap. 4 Stabber Fleet Issues, Harb, Cane, Arazu, Falcon, Rapier.

We sent the falcon in to get set up, we sent in the Arazu to point the ships that were burning away. Once they were in position we sent in both Battle Cruisers to warp to their bubble. The plan was simple….tackle that SACRILEGE. When he aggressed, we would all jump in and mow them down. The plan went off without a hitch. Mojo tackled the Hurricane, Jackiash tackled the Sacrilege.

They were all jammed, all tackled and we got 3 of them with zero losses.

3 Kills 0 Losses

When we finished looting, an Armageddon landed in the bubble right behind us. We called for the align to the Jorund gate. Since no one really flies battleships in Curse, I remember this Untamed Pony’s gang rolling heavy with about 10-15. We called to align to Jorund, when they hit the scanner, we said Warp to Jorund, and pack it on home. We had about 5 people listen, 3 that didn’t.

We lost one to the battleship gang on the way back due to lack of attention span. Shouldn’t have happened. The irony is that one of them was talking crap in local after they ganked a cruiser. Not fought (they ran when we had a similar gang), not set up (nope, no spectacular tactics), they killed an armor tanked ship that jumped straight into them.

See you on my overview

Thanks Skelee, that was very kind of you. As for Diablow, we do have a few playing, but not in our timezone. We are all old bastards that simply don't have time to spend all day on multiple platforms playing every game invented. NOW for our daily "What we did post"

As we all know Local was borked after down time, a lot of us were tired or busy doing market pvp so many of us weren’t interested in roaming too much and were sitting around on TS talking our little heads off. A few minutes goes by and our resident badass Pleniers said….WOOOO Cynabal down. (We weren’t invited)

Of course, we all said what? He said I just killed a Cynabal, then he said. OH, OH…..Harbinger down. We all again said WHAT? Just killed a Harbinger….he THEN said…ha-ha. Taranis down. Then he said….OH CRAP, Malediction and a Cerberus…I am almost out of Cap Boost Charges. We all scrambled to help save our friend.

About four jumps out from our arrival, we found out that Pleniers accent had given us the wrong system…so we then had to trek another ten jumps and by that time…Pleniers had perished. He killed 3 ships and lost a Myrmidon. AND almost managed to de-aggress in time to get out. He was left with his heavily damaged cloaky blackbird which he used to offset the 6 people he was fighting.

Pleniers was warping around, warping back to the gate and cloaking trying to keep their interest. When we arrived on the gate he was on, Imperial Legion had jumped in a scout and we were made. Since we didn’t want to give them the chance to reship, we decided to head back. While scouting on the way back I jumped into a Oracle and a Drake.

I held my cloak, as the oracle Jumped, when the Drake landed, I pointed him. Tiger didn’t aggress so he could jump and help me on my side of the gate. The guys on the other side were laying into the Oracle which was burning back. Now it was me holding the Drake down, and Tiger holding the Oracle down…by this time they were both aggressed.

The Oracle and the Drake were both aggressed on me, so my fleet stabber was taking lots of damage although I was fast enough that I was not pointed. I held off long enough for the rest of the gang to de-aggress and take over. Within 20 seconds both BC’s were dead, and all was right in the universe.

A barely fitted Myrmidon jumped into us on the way back…nothing to see here. Move on.
