Any thought? I'm looking for a ship that's just plain fun to fly, but itsn't a instapodded deathtrap.

What are you trying to do in said ship? Running lvl 5s will require a very different ship from looking for PvP.

merlin
rifter
tristan
punisher

all of the above and some of their near kin are all fun to fly.

they also happen to be cheap enough to allow you to figure out how not to let them be deathtraps before you go broke.

It's easy to stay alive in a frig in lowsec, albeit a bit boring to do so :)

I think the OP just realised two things:

1 there isn't one solution or answer and many ships can be fun and worthwhile
2 asking too broad a question gives you useless answers

:D

Add blue pill and Crystals if you can afford it, for extra sexy.

Here's a question. I fly solo with a alt scout most of the time. Is a T3 cruiser sturdy enough to survive the instalock gatecamps? How do they do against AF or Cepters that are trying to kite?

depends on your tank. go active tank, shield boosted tengu for example, you can get a decent tank if turned on. But.....takes jsut a bit of nos/neut and some tackle to keep you in your place to suck that cap dry and no tank.

I have seen some resilient plated loki fits as well. They'll take a punch, but you aren't as agile.

then you have proteus. fit depending that pig has some wtf ehp lol.

Frig work will depend on fit and skills and ships. A loki no web might have issues with a skilled frigate pilots. a loki with the sub to boost web performance fitting a web hurts their kiting. Guns will deal with tracking in general as well. Missile Tengu you will have missiile calcs to worry about (velocity, radius, etc). Also is your t3 going to be 10mn AB or 100MN to get some speed out of it.

Use something cheap to start with , unless spending 1 billion per ship is something you find cheap. And dont use crystal in 0.0 unless you dont mind to loose another bill in the process/

For not caring if you lose it and not getting gate-camped: Rifter

For being able to kill a range of stuff: Hurricane

For being able to survive longer than the above two: Drake

I'm tempted to say Rutpure/Thorax too but I think for solo I'd go BC or small but I know a lot of people with list these two.

After the AF buff they are much fun to go lose, and relativly cost effective. But they do require a much higher skilled pilot. And I dont mean skill-points. Fly and lose a ton of rifters before rnning out that new wolf or jag ;)
