Medieval Eve Online? Does one exist?

Hello all,

I started playing Eve-online recently, and I enjoy it immensely. However, I have never been one for fantasy games. What I'd like to play is a medieval version of Eve. The main traits i'm looking for here are the open sandbox world, and the potential for starting one's own business, independently, in a corporation, or otherwise. Any suggestions?

I hear Darkfall is very EVE like but I don't know if it is good or not. I haven't tried it.

I think Fallen Earth is what you're looking for. It's more of a fallout/post-apocalyptic type than a high fantasy, but there is 'magic' in the late game, guns use up their ammo and need to reload, and there are multiple forms of melee.

The crafting in that is so ridiculous that it becomes the core of the game once you know what you're doing. The standard MMO quests are there for people who simply don't want to craft, but you will get plenty of excuses to seek out and kill random enemies for various drops that you won't really need quests. It helps to do the crafting ones though, simply because books become expensive.

It's sold as an FPS mmo, but the aiming is pretty watered down. There are headshots though IIRC.

I was in the closed beta, great idea but it's pretty awful, don't buy it, the game had so much potential too :(

Dark and Light used to be a contender before it's devs and publisher kinda screwed up everything they could possibly screw up :(

Otherwise i guess Darkfall comes closest. Though, try Ultima Online aswell, but i guess that with Trammel it's lost it's pezazz in that regard.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Only thing I can think of from old school games are shadow bane (now dead I presume), anarchy online.
AO has a fluctuating PvP mechanic where some places turn to pvp zones at set intervals or you can go and beat a guard (they are rather low lvl) and get flagged and SB had free for all and 'banes' for castle sieges.

AO however is old (10 years) and unfortunately it shows in about everything but you can try it for free.

Mortal Online is effectively medieval EvE.

FPS skill driven combat
Open World
Full loot & Full PvP
Open Skill system - no classes
Guild warfare & territory control
Played built housing/structures
Player run economies.

I've played it and really felt like Medieval EvE, outside of towns its free reign to attack whoever you like, stealing anything they drop. But its very rough around the edges; So its EvE circa 2004, with a small hardcore community.

Xyson is post-apocalyptic, but kind of medieval-like in that there are no cities or firearms. More like a big camp-out in the mountains. Crafting and building forts are a big part of the game. Beautiful graphics and could be excellent someday, but unfortunately it still has some kinks to be worked out.

I just started playing this game a few days ago and I am addicted. It pretty much is EVE medieval, guards in secure cities, sandbox MMO, with a bit of Elderscrolls and UO.

This is a tough game to learn, you need to take your time to learn how to play, use ingame help and chats. it's very much exploration and discovery, even when it comes to learning how to play. They have an expansion coming out next month and they are seeing an increase in new players.

anyhow, if you do take up the game, it's all on one server. my name there is the same name i have here in these forums. so if you'd like some help in game, it'll be nice to have another new player to run around with.

*note, this game does have some development needs and there are some bugs, but i have not ran into anything game breaking, graphics are beautiful at max. i take the bad with the good*

I have considered running a tabletop campaign borrowing from CCP/WW's table-top RPG mechanics. Set during the dark ages period of New Eden somewhere after the closure of the Evegate and the descent of its peoples onto planets, stranded.

Cue visions of gritty cyberpunk, harsh survivalism, the loss of spaceflight with the backdrop of what it once was. The line between science, technology and "magic" in the eyes of the now unfortunately ignorant.

Sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind reading some ficition with that setting.
