Had centurylink(centurytel) used to go down as long as 14 hours at a time. You might have a good month or 2, but the next 3 months constant drops. Switched to WOW now I drop 3 times and hour. Only difference is I can reconect right away. Not sure the problem is in the ISP, but whatever.

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

True, but then not everyone tailors their posts specifically for you ;)

No but it would be nice to give a background instead of arrogant OP just assuming that everyone is American Blink

No, we're assuming everyone can use Google. Everyone != Americans only. Otherwise, you demonstrate an ineptitude that you can't explain away purely based on one's heritage. Arrogance has nothing to do with it. This follows along the lines of such sayings as "RTFM" or "Google is your friend". Conversely, expecting us to spell out everything you do not understand or comprehend when the information is available within 2 minutes of attempting to find it is, on the other hand, arrogant. And so is basing your notion of arrogance on the fact that American's are talking about an American service provider in some clandestine attempt to exclude the rest of the world because we're....well....American. We are not. Learn how to search for information you Luddite! Search tools have been around since the inception of the internet. And if you haven't figured it out yet: YES, the internet empowers you to learn the knowledge you lack.

I think I am being most generous with my response here. Go try such a tactic on a forum for linux or C++. You'll quickly find yourself ostracized or, worse, banned.

Also, not every conversation revolves around you. For example, while at a party, you might overhear a conversation between several people speaking about a subject known to them but, not you. The typical tactic to figure out what they're talking about is to STFU and listen. If that fails wait for a pause and ask, if you're so forward. I'm betting you don't get invited to many parties, do you?

Don't ban me, bro!

How the hell is he being arrogant? The post was really to get corroboration from other people with Comcast that they were having an issue as well. You don't know what Comcast is, then you obviously don't have anything to contribute to the thread.

Fun facts:
Comcast is in the top 5 most hated brand in America, and has been on that list than any other company in the last 50 years!

The entire point... and ONLY point, of creating the brand "Xfinity", was to address their brand image problem. It's the equivalent of recycling alts in EvE... if the new alts were created in the same corporation. It wouldn't fool anyone in eve, and it's not fooling anyone in RL.

They got caught throttling bandwidth, spying on users, and have a long history of terrible customer service.

Grrr... want to pod them... Evil

/on Comcast and got cut yesterday too...

What's a comcast?

I'll take this seriously and say - Comcast is a company that got into cable television when it was relatively new. Local cable companies sprang up US-wide, and Comcast bought them up. They're notoriously bad at customer relations and service. All they want is to rake in money. They insulate themselves from their customers so well, it becomes insane to try to get anything from them. Unfortunately, when the internet moved from phone modems to coaxial cable, Comcast decided it was just the place for them, and proceeded to swallow up small companies just as they did with cable TV.

Whenever I'm staying at someone's house for any length of time the first question I ask is, "Do you have Comcast?" If the answer is "yes" the looks on the poor folk's faces resemble those at a funeral. When the answer is "no", those folks beam with pride. What Comcast has failed to do in the decades I've been dealing with them is make their service as reliable as the arrival of their bills.

I'm paying for a Comcast gaming hookup and was getting horrible internet speed. I call. They send out a guy to see if the modem's plugged in, claim nothing's wrong (that they can see), then bill me for the visit...since there wasn't a problem. After getting an upper management guy on the phone through sheer belligerence, and retelling my tale accompanied by the name and address of the lawyer I had lined-up to file a lawsuit, HE magically gave me the number of a tech-guy of theirs in Virginia. He came out and ran a real diagnosis. Cleaned up their horrendous hardware arrangement, got me a modem (which few customers know they stock) and gave me his card in case any other trouble arose. None has...but for the sort experienced by this group of posters.

I might add, while the EVE server was inaccessible via Comcast, I was still playing another game with no trouble at all...

An 89-year-old lady went to her local Comcast office one day, with a hammer. She went in and began smashing phones, computers and monitors. Employees subdued her, took her into the waiting room and had her sit there presumeably until the police arrived. When they left her alone in there, she went back INTO the offices and started pounding things again. Her husband had a gold charm on a gold necklace made for her...a little gold hammer. He was proud of her as were we all.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

It is a reasonable presumption for most geeks. They're only the worst ISP in the US (I'm not from the US, don't live there and I know that)

However, I will introduce you to another website you may not have heard of. It's called Google. You can find Google here: www.google.com

And that bit, that I hope is highlighted now, is called a URL. (Uniform Resource Locator or somesuch) It helps you navigate through the www.

Now, if a topic is foreign to you; you can always type the words into Google and click Search. Like "Comcast" or "What is Comcast?" Or, if you are using a browser like Google Chrome just right click and ...

Wait. I don't want to confuse you.

What company was it that got caught with having its technicians physically snipping the cables of “unknown (read: competing companies') installations” when they went out on service calls?

Was that comcast too? Otherwise, you'd think that that kind of support would land you quite high on the list of hated companies…

I feel your pain. I used to have to use Comcast. They are a horrible company to deal with. They bought every single ISP that was operating in our area, so it was them or dial up.

For years I would lose my internet for hours a day while there while they insisted that there was nothing wrong and refused to look into it. It was seriously like a switch, every day between 23:30 and 1:00 it would just cut off for a couple hours.

I couldn't drop them fast enough once some competition too big for them to buy out moved in.

I pay less, for faster internet, practically 100% uptime, and actual customer service.

Funny thing, this just happened to me last light, around 1am Pacific Standard Time. For 30min I was unable to log in to the game or get on their website.

Everything else worked fine, I was on vent , and surfing the net, but I was unable to get on anything EVE related. I tried logging in and server status would be 'unknown.' So I call my brother up, and ask him him to log into EVE or go onto their website since he has Comcast as well. He was in the situation I was in.

It is very unfortunate that Comcast is my only cable ISP in my area. It's either Comcast or DSL.

Same. It was a frustrating night. I've always been convinced that Comcast techs are in fact scripts, as opposed to high-school dropouts reading scripts. After an hour of my own belligerence (lol) a "tech" finally told me that the domain had been blocked, but couldn't tell me why. She told me to fill out this form (I can't I'm not the host) to restore service "in six to eight weeks" and then promptly hung up on me. Shocked

I guess I'd be more surprised if this exact same thing hadn't happened already, but as far as I'm concerned, when it's 3AM and I can't connect to EVE, what else do I have to do other than ruin some tech's day by demanding answers other than 'did you try unplugging your modem?"

To be fair, I've gotten great service from Comcast over the last couple of years. Now them raising their rates all the time is pissing me of f but I don't have another option right now.
