Fun fact: The replacement of the start menu is excellent.
The start menu in Windows 7 is useless, anyway. It's only ever used for the 2 or 3 things you pin at the top, and the search. That's it.

Windows 8 has a nice and shiny live screen where I can:
-Fit dozens of shortcuts on one screen instead of a handful
-Just start typing to run a search
-See all of my news feeds/calendar stuff/social network stuff/emails/weather/etc, constantly updating and near real-time (I'm looking forward to an EVE skill queue)
-Big icons to click instead of tiny folders mean my clicks can be more vague, thus faster

There's also the new freakin' epic new task manager, and a ribbon for the file explorer. There's user syncing between all your owned Windows 8 devices, as well as at least ~50% faster booting than W7, in every case.

Even file copying is infinitely better now (You can actually pause! In 2012! What an age we live in!)
I can also automatically back up every version of all my files to a network hard-drive, and can easily access all of these previous versions.

It's great for my desktop, and just as good on my tablet. I could play EVE on my tablet, standing up on the train, if I had a USB internet dongle for it. I'll wait until the actual Windows 8 tablet releases at this year's end, though.

This.

Working in the IT field for over 15+ years now and that is how every company I have worked for has handled Windows.

Windows 7 is a great OS and I see no reason to move to the new one just because its a new one.

Personally I would still be using Windows 2000 Pro if I had my choice as that was the Best OS to date.

Vista and 7 are not the same OS at all, same file system but not the same OS.

Do not believe me? Do a simple test
In Vista do a search for msconfig
In Windows 7 do a search for msconfig.

Vista does not have MSconfig a great great tool in the IT world. So your wrong. thanks for playing.

Also ME and 2000 are the same OS, one is for home and one is for business.

ORLY? Get a job dealing with Vista and 7. Msconfig was present in some form or another since what? XP?

Plus, if you need MSConfig to hold your hand for registry editing you do not know enough to gripe about it.

Also, MSConfig does not make an OS. The core structures are the same (kernel, drivers, etc.), Win 7 just had more lenient UAC and a tweaked UI.

Anyway, on topic, EvE runs on anything from Windows 2000 Pro (havent checked since the new launcher though) to Windows 8.

I can say incorrect things while pretending I have a good job too.

For example, "E"s go before "I"s" except after "C", not the other way around. Trust me, I am an English professor at Harvard.

Seriously, I used MSConfig just a few weeks ago on Vista to fix a bug that minimized games automatically. If you are going to try and sound smart at least use an information source other than your ass.

Vista has msconfig for god's sake. Don't look foolish.

Windows 8 is WIndows 7 with a new interface basically. Absolutely no reason to get ti if you have Windows 7 running well. If you are still using XP it might be worth it.

As someone who works at Microsoft, I'm getting a kick out of these replies...

Windows 8 actually does quite a few things different. The introduction to Metro is just the tip of the iceberg, and really one of the few visible changes. Most of what has really changed is under the hood in the form of memory handling improvements, file operation efficiency, and better support for newer hardware.

Once the release preview goes live, try benchmarking a computer using newer hardware on Windows 8, then try it in Windows 7. It's going to be significant enough to warrant the upgrade.

Indeed it is.

Though it does not seem to like my old slow laptop harddrive. The system was hanging alot with 100% disk usage until I moved the swap file to separate HDD's.

Hopefully you are right as the benchmarks I use I are pretty much flat with the Consumer Preview.

Better support for newer hardware=drivers.

As someone who handles IT for ~400 small companies, I'd suggest updating your resume.
