CCP Future Plans for Tranquility ????

In an EXTREME line of thinking, while pondering the months and months of 'odd' behaviour from CCP in general, the seemingly unstoppable steamroller of whatever is planned for the future, I believe the only thing that makes sense (although it is DUMB if it is true) is that CCP does indeed want this game called EVE to die.

Apparently they saw the 'money-light' go on when they decided to craft a game to appeal to the 'Teenage Vampire' craze that was indeed all the rage about 2 years ago. Like everyone else, I too want to slap that Pattinson dude whose first name I can not bother to recall.

BUT.....HOW the marketing idiots could not see or tell with even the most MINIMAL of Pop Culture Instinct, that Teenage Vampires was a meme/trend DUE TO DIE AN EARLY DEATH. And it indeed has. It is a MEME I have seen come and go at least 4 times since 1972.

So now they are stuck with continuing development on it. Obviously WoD game is not going to work. The Vampire thing is over.

So, they are also stuck continuing to develop a FPS that WILL RELY on the Tranquility Server for access to the PI Planet 'Setups' (do we have a WORD ?).

Of course their best option is to go full-on with the FPS Dust, as that will get more subscribers than the Vampire game at this point.

And if "EVE Fails" and player attrition continues leading to an eventual shutdown ala Star Wars, HOW CONVENIENT.

For they will then have an EMPTY SERVER with PI Planets already setup....and ready for NPC'c to manage and control the PI Planets for the Dust players as they have their way with them.

Sounds like a great business plan to me actually !! Really it does. How perfectly perfect.

And I know this sounds like I'm really far out on a limb, and maybe it is, but it really is the only thing that makes any kind of sense to me in light of all the circumstances and witnessed actions on the part of CCP.

It's an interesting idea, but I think that the system architecture needed for Eve will be very different to that used for Dust.

Also, Dust will probably fail within six months of launch anyway.

They have explained how the servers will 'interact'.

I don't feel they want EVE to die, they just want to give it a bit of an enema, playerbase-wise. I think they want to get rid of some of the "old guard" who are so far ahead in SP and actual PVP skills that the n00bs (the real cash cow they want to milk) are frightened off.

They probably have a spreadsheet with data showing that skill points will not be totally lost from the base of active players, but redistributed after a year - eg for every 100-million SP vet who leaves, they'll have 5 one-year players with 20M SP each. Which would be a gross gain of 4 additional subs (net gain would be less as more server hardware may be required to handle a large player influx).

Or maybe my aluminium headgear has a hull breach again.

*sigh* The world of darkness is around a lot longer than the recent mass-market vampire boom. The WOD has also never been tied to any mainstream vampire craze and has always attracted a lot more if not mature then deviant crowd.

It's not like CCP just thought "wow a new vampire themed wave", rather that an established vampire franchise was available to branch out into another medium.

I do not believe senior management has any plans at this time for any grand expansions like those of the first few years. They'll keep her on a shoestring budget until WoD is going then they'll sunset EVE a couple of gears later.

A Mac can interact with an RS/6000, but you try running software designed for one on the other.
