A note to begin with: we've come up with a standardized global scheme for Meta Level 1-4 modules, so by looking at the name you should be able to tell at a glance where the item falls in the Meta pecking order. It goes like this:

Meta Level 1: Upgraded

Meta Level 2: Limited

Meta Level 3: Experimental

Meta Level 4: Prototype

As usual those crazy Icelanders tried to make something more self explanatory and didnt quite get it.

Why would a level 1 item be "upgraded" but the level 2 be "limited" ?

Might just be me, but that seems a bit backwards. If you were to drop them all in my hangar and tell me to figure it our without the item info page I (and probably anyone) would assume the "Upgraded" version would be better than the "limited" version.

Experimental and prototype are....eh.... they could be argued either way. you could argue that "Upgraded" should be the meta 4. Since the word "UPGRADED" means that it is better than it's counterparts....

Prototype
Experimental

I know its kind of boring and straight forward but how about calling them "Meta1", "Meta2", "Meta3" and "Meta4"? Seems like that would eliminate any confusion.

Now THIS is good feedback on this issue. And I agree.

The names should be very descriptive of the items level.

For example:

Meta 0: Inferior Item Name
Meta 1: Standard Item Name
Meta 2: Upgraded Item Name
Meta 3: Superior Item Name
Meta 4: Prototype Item Name

Same goes for the re-naming of the Launchers. "Array" is a poor English-language choice.

A better option would be as follows:

Assault Lauchers ----> Light Missile Assault Launcher
Heavy Assault Laucher ------> Heavy Missile Assault Launcher

I'd vote for something like
Ham
Meat
Chicken
Bacon

Bacon being Meta 4

limited is more rare than upgraded...

but that's just my silly logic

As I posted in the Dev Blog comments thread: Limited does not feel right. Not for Meta 2 while Meta 1 is "Upgraded" Enhanced would be a ton better.

Another idea I saw posted should get a mention here too:

All this but you're not fixing the "Trauma"?

You're already changing the hardener names to match damage type so do this:

Trauma Light Missile => Kinetic 'Bloodclaw' Light Missile
Mjolnir Rocket => EM 'Gremlin' Rocket
etc.

Launcher names. the Assault missile change does not look, or sound good and doesn't give a clear indication of what it does. A far better name would be Rapid Light Missile Launcher or something.

I like this naming scheme seems perfect to me

Jack Daniels - Meta 1
Johnnie Walker - Meta 2
Glenlivet - Meta 3
Macallan - Meta 4

I mean if this is not intuitive to you, you shouldnt be playing EVE.

i can understand that too, like 'limited edition'

but when thinking about the quality of an item i was thinking along the lines of 'limited ability'

I'm extremely pleased that valuable time is being spent upon this important issue.

Luckily EVE does not have any other pressing concerns.

Perhaps they could ask Tony Gonzales (writer of the last EVE novel "Templar One") for some naming ideas?

It has less to do with logic and more with what one feels like "limited" refers to.

"Limited" in function

"Limited" in availability

The reason I think so many people are leaning towards the "limited (in functionality)" interpretation is that this is what the other 3 names seem to convey, some qualifier of an item's functionality: upgraded, prototype and experimental. Neither of the three speaks to the availability of the item with the name alone.

Either way, using ambiguous names is bad. So is using arguably synonymous names like "prototype" and "experimental". Blah on the new names all around.

My suggestion

Meta 1 to I don't get it
Meta 2 to What is this?
Meta 3 to What the **** is this?
Meta 4 to **** you, figure it out yourself
Meta 5 to **** it, I'm outta here

Meta 1 > The Mittani

Meta 2 > Xenuria

Meta 3 > Evil Brock Nelson

Meta 4 > Bipolar Brock Nelson

Meta 5 > Brock Nelson

I see it like this:

Meta 0: Civilian modules for the capsuleer just starting their careers.
Meta 1: Upgraded from the core civilian module, these are the first non-civilian modules
Meta 2: Limited (Not sure why they chose that one)
Meta 3: Experimental module that pushes the boundaries but have gone through some testing.
Meta 4: Prototype module that provides the maximum gain but is exactly that, a prototype. It has not really been tested.

It would be amusingif the Experimental / Prototype modules had some chance of failure though P

Are you really such a mental invalid that you can't handle a name change. Does CCP need to implement a phonetic reader in the game that will slowly spell out each word for you? Perhaps a voice analyzer so you can slowly slur the words, "Ay aww want some miscles and stuffs..." and the game can just figure it out for you.

You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world.
