Alright so my buddy and i decided to go on a little two man roam with myself being in a curse and him in a vaga. We engaged a drake and were ripping him a new one, about 3/4 through his shields his buddy jumped in to save him with another drake and between the two of them we got destroyed. i managed to get away by neuting their points off of me but the vaga not so lucky. I feel like if we went up against canes or harbys we wouldn't have had a problem but obviously drakes are very common. What would be a good alternative to our set up?

TL;DR
What is a good two man ship combo?

-Thanks

Two drakes.

I realize this looks like a troll having read your post, but just reading the subject line this was going to be my response. Take a look at my killboard if you're interested in fits/targets I engage.

Curse is good against those who use cap for weapons/tank and turrets. Drake is neither of these.

Also, it depends on what you want out of your next setup for two ships. Do you want to win 100% everytime with scary ships that most people will not engage without equal or greater force? Or do you want to get lots of good fights?

Fly 100mn Tengu's or Drakes if you're looking to win and be blueballed a lot

If you want lots of fights, ferox, moa, corm, or any obscure ship that isn't considered FOTM yet. Also, shield talos is very good ship that most people have not caught on to being careful about engaging.

Hmmmm, i fly amarr and my buddy flys minmatar. On the shiny ship part houw well would a loki legion hold up?

And for the more conventional ships maybe a cane/cyclone and a harby? I can fly winmatar also just not as good as amarr.

Thanks for the replies btw.

So a Drake is scary but a Curse isn't? Roll

In the context of this fight, yes. He didn't have an effective damage dealer before the calvary arrived. Cane + Curse would've been fine.

In the future, maybe;

Pilgrim + Cane

or

Legion plus Rapier

But definitely have a more viable damage dealer. Neither the Vaga nor Curse is an effective DD.

The vaga couldn't slip away from a drake?

If you're hunting drakes then try a falcon instead of a curse

Drake can have high ehp and resists if setup for it. So i took you longer to kill him then you thought. I would say the falcon be your best you for you. you would have been able to jam the second one and kill the first off. then gtfo or take out second one. Other option is to use a heavy tackler and macherial! LOL

Dual rep Sacrilege + Minmatar BC (or you want shiny Loki/Sleip) - the Cyclone is a very underrated ship for small skirmish warfare and can tank a pair of drakes for an impressive amount of time (maybe not a pair of HAM drakes).

Well if you want to win all the time in 2v2s...1 Falcon + 1 Drake/Cane/Harb/Myrm....

I tend to lean towards two nano-BCs if there are only 2 of you. ( so you can quickly kill what you catch and run away! )

2 Nano-Drakes would probably be best for the overall engagement envelope but a Nano-Cane is still a sweet boat and a Nano-Harb is a DPS MACHINE...

Curse/Vaga is not a bad choice either...just need to be more careful about what you engage.

The vaga should be able to GTFO when things get ugly. In fact, that is its main attraction in PvP for most pilots. It is not terribly impressive as a damage dealer and when the battlefield gets crowded, speed tanking starts to get less effective.

The 'cane is great for its price and flexibility.
