Maxing out PI output

I live and do PI in w-space and started off with Enriched Uranium. I have two planets producing P1 and one planet where it gets refined into EU. Now, the problem is, my Ice planet consistently produces more stuff (Heavy Metals) than my Barren Planet (Noble Metals). I do adjust extractor heads on both planets daily.
Is it simply the case that Ice planets in general are richer in Heavy Metals than Barren planets in Noble Metals? Or can this be fixed with better extractor placement (through better PI skills)?

It is very unlikely that the two planets will have the same max output level, so you will build up a stockpile of one material with respect to another (NB: In my experience ice planets do have much hotter spots for heavy metals than barren planets do for noble metals, but that is not necessarily the case for every pair of planets).

What I've done in the past is to actually use the factory planet to supplement the extraction because it's unlikely you'll need all of your PG on the planet to process to enriched uranium.

In any case - good luck.

You're spot on --> Heavy Metals are more "common" than Noble.

Now I always used to prroduce P2 on 1 planet the way I'd balance there would be swopping heads from 1 ECU to another.

When I did a P4 setup (4 extraction 1 factory planets) I found I actually needed to create 5 extraction planets as 1 resource required 2 planets to extract as much as the others would average.

In your case if both those resources are available together on 1 planet you could create a balancing colony that will extract either dependant on what you need.

Bear in mind also you can buy at market and import the diffrence needed or stockpile and sell at market the excess.

Good luck

/edit depends what your skills are at at the moment how much improvement you might see

//edit it would be a plasma planet needed for 'balancing' there quite rare though

As stated above, imbalances are unavoidable for almost any production. Some options:
- P0 > P2 on one planet. As mentioned above, you can swap heads from one P0 ECU to the other. This allows you to sort of balance (over the long haul, anyway) the P1 production. The downside is that this is inherently less efficient for overall extraction than only going from P0 > P1 on each planet; however, your factory planet can now become an extraction or P2 planet, as well, offsetting your losses. I generally only create factory planets for P3 and above, unless the planet is HUGE and the materials are too far apart to effectively do P2.

- More toons making P1. You can adjust what is being extracted. We had a C4 WH in which we went all communist and all excess P1 (which we did not want to haul out anyway) went into general storage for use by anyone. You could usually supplement your shortages from other people's excess. Ofc, this assumes you have multiple players or toons in the WH, but if you are in a wh, your really, really, should train at least a low level alt on your main account to do some extraction.

- As mentioned above, purchase off the market. If you imbalance is not too great, a large hauler bringing material in may last for quite a while.

Eh, there are others, but I better get back to work.
