How does a Catalyst do this??

Ok, this is not tears or anything like that, just curious and want to learn.... :)

Yesterday, after quite some time of not mining ice, I decided to go mine some. I should have left the belt right away when I noticed the there were NO other Mackinaws mining ice....hmmmm, unusual, but what the hey, I'll mine anyway. After a few minutes, even after blowing up a pesky rat, all of a sudden I see a red warp in close!

Immediatley I tried to warp home, but of course to late. Im sure a cloaked buddy flew near to me, then asked his fellow Goonswarm fleetmate to warp in and finish me off, which he promptly did.

No problem, it's part of Eve, and Im sure it was part of Hulkageddon/Makinawgeddon. Flew to base, and came back to pick up what ever was left of my Mackinaw's wreck......

Now here is what was very interesting. The ship that attacked me was a Catalyst. He was able to warp away to a gate or base BEFORE concord even showed up, and this was in .7 space! Is that unusaul as far as response time goes? Now I know (assume) that concord did get him eventually, but I was very surprised to see that he was able to blow me up AND escape before concord arrived!....

Also, I went back to the belt afterwards just to see anyone else get zapped (in a shuttle of course)....
No sooner had I warned a fellow miner, another red warps to him, and KABOOOOM! But this time concord did show, BUT he still was able to warp off before punishment was handed out!

I found this very intrigueing (sp).....how did he do that??? I covo'd the Goonswarm culprit, and just said "quick question pls"...
he accepted, and I asked him how did he get away from concord so fast?
His response was "its a secret"...... ok, fair enuff.

But anyone know how it is that a Catalyst, can attack and blow a ship up, and warp away before, if not as soon as concord shows up?

Report him, if you attack someone in hi-sec the current ship your in has to die from concord, he exploited.

literally noone said that goon escaped concord. He could just get concord somewhere away (get it out of belt) and get killed there.
Only if i know how does CONCORD work.Roll

Concord response time in a 0.7 system is about 10 seconds so it's entirely possible for someone to blow up a miner and warp off before concord even shows up. However because you can't dock or jump while you have a Global criminal countdown the result of warping off is typically just that you get blown up by concord elsewhere in the system.

He warped away to draw concord away. Having concord sitting in the ice belt is bad for business, as it were.

I used to have a clever sig but I lost it.

heres a question, if he ganks tthen warps back to a goon pos, can he store his ship in the mait. bay? or does it deny him.

If he didn't lose his ship, then it's an exploit and bannable offense.

Else your tank was so weak he was able to kill you and warp somewhere else to get killed by concord. Saves the time of moving concord with a 2nd offense but not illegal.

I think they fixed that after the whole orca incident. Mechanics wise it may work, but it is an exploit. CCP has stated that if you suicide gank, your ship is toast.

It is very easy to do this. however, you can protect yourself abit.. or give some more time to your self.

all you need is an alt in a noob ship.

So what happens, you are mining semi-afk. This is the biggest problem.

First of all you need to mark Goonswarm freaking red. and you watch local for those frustrated naabcakes.

2nd, you log in with your alt and shoot your own mack/hulk with the noob ship.

This will get concord in the belt.

Chances are very little that they will be able to gank you now with 1 catalyst. because what they need to do, is to remove Concord from the belt. Since this is the first warning, that someone is about to gank. you got some time to warp out and get in a salvage ship (drake) and warp to 200km from the icebelt.

Now, they will gank a mack that is not paying attention. Keep an eye on the belt with your salvage ship (make sure it can absorb at least 6k damage) now wait for the 1 or 2 catalysts warp in and now warp to the spot where you will find 2-3 wrecks. It's even better to stay in the belt together with the "pointing ship (probably some noobcorp pilot. This pilot is very easy to recognize because it will stick 500m from the next ganking target).

Most import is to loot the blue ships, because that will disrupt the logistics for these goonturd actions. besides that, make sure to salvage the mack that got shot. when this is done, align to a station and loot the stuff that came out of the container (or forget about this part if you don't want to be a freeby.

fly back again to the spot 200km from the icebelt, cloak and wait.

If you want to do it pro, you need to scan out the orca's that drop the catalysts into space. Since the Goonfarts are also reading these forums, they will probably start to use Cloaking devices on their orca's or they warp out directly after catalyst deployment.

Anyways if you are a pro scanner you could pinpoint some catalysts warp to this point with some dps and start shooting the incomming pods/ steal the free catalysts. This could be fun. However the pod tend to stay in one of the stations until they are ready for the next "action" (you can monitor this with an alt).

I got some more free tips but i don't want to mention them here.

Couple of additional tips,

1. No need for a scanner on a Mack due to Ice's size, fit your mids with nothing but tank, either SSB/Extenders and hardners. Two extenders and two invuls will alsmost double your EHP in a Mack

2. If you are doing this semi AFK, do NOT sit still. Orbit the berg at 9,000 meters. Cats have a small optimal range with blasters and blasers are the only way he is going to be able to kill you so quickly. Warp to Zero is not exact, if he comes in a little off and has to turn to chase he, he will not be able to align to warp out right away and those few seconds you are outside his optimal make a big difference.

3. The instant one Cat attacks and fails, GTFO, there will be a second one right behind him.

4. Leave your drones out. It makes one more thing the cloaker has to worry about in terms of positioning.

Kneebone has it mostly right. Tank your ****, but don't use Shield Boosters, they're nigh useless against a gank. Use Shield Extenders and Invulnerability Fields where possible. Also, if you're not going to AFK in the belt, consider putting a Damage Control in the lows and Shield rigs rather than Cargo rigs.

Most Goons travel solo or with their Alt in high-sec for a number of reasons. Mostly because nobody else can stand being around them, but also because most people they intend to gank only require 1 ship to gank them. If you tank the **** out of your Mackinaw and make it impossible for a solo-ganker to take your ship you can harvest their tears when they fail.

If you get away from concord, survive for 60 seconds then you can dock.
AmIRight?

Question remains, you warp away and into a POS. What happens next?

POS gets insta'ed?

Shooting your own alt to bring concord is considered an offense by CCP.

Not sure how they word it...but its a no-no to intentionally bring concord for the expressed purpose of prevention of suicide ganks.

How ironic.

Pretty much this, if you blow up a miner you are going to die to concord there is no avoiding that but if you can clear them out the belt 1st then even better. Make sure to fill out our 'Not a Bot' reimbursement form.

It is quite entertaining what can happen when i get bored and my corp wants to join in. Which is exactly what has happened here.

Now onto something else. Goonswarm as a whole is not doing this. Bat Country how ever is the only corp that is actually putting it to the nasty bots of Caldari space.
