A good Gallente PVP ship.

I've recently gotten into low-sec PVP, and have started going on occasional roams with my Thorax. I know it's not the best thing to solo in but I use what I can afford at this time. I am just trying to figure out what is a better Gallente ship I can use to go on solo roams with that won't hurt the bank too much.

I also know that Minmitar ships are probably better at going on solo roams, but I don't have the skills to use Minmitar cruisers yet, so I am looking for a temporary until I can use Minmitar cruisers. Smile

Federation Navy Comet - extremely cheap for a Gallente FW pilot.

Incursus or Tristan. Catalyst works well too..

Cheap to the point of throw-away ships, just fit out a couple and go lose them, rinse and repeat.
Once you start winning consecutive fights, move on to Cruisers (Thorax and Vexor) and please for the love
of everything holy brush off that 'bigger is better' belief and wait.

If you like cruisers, I can't recommend the Vexor enough. If you have good drone skills it's one of the best solo T1 cruisers in the game and is often highly under-estimated. The small gun/1600 plate fit works against just about all other non faction T1 cruisers but also allows you to take on small packs of frigs.

The draw back is it's hard to find fights these days for T1 cruisers that doesn't involve getting ganked by many targets or people flying faction/T2. It's why most people solo in fast frigs these days..

Okay thanks for the advice guys. It seems that my thoughts of going smaller were right, but it seems most people I've fought have used cruisers or battleships. Is there a decent amount of people who do PvP in frigates and destroyers? Or would most of my time be spent running from much bigger and shiner ships than mine?

As a soloer you will often spend a lot of time running away due to the fact most people tend to fly in gangs, so ship size really makes that irrelevant. Personally, I like using BC's just because I like the wider range of targets and I always die horribly in frigs aside from Rifters, but not a lot of targets out there these days for Rifters.

Best to go with frigs or dessies to start and get to know the areas you fly in see what kind of targets are typically around, as that will usually tell you what ships you want to use.

Thorax and Vexor are both very impressive. I've had my share of embarrassments but if you play right you can punch above your weight and get lucky from time to time. I don't consider myself good, just lucky.

Vexor

More recently with thorax

For example the hurricane had just tried to kill an industrial so with the help of gate guns and at 25% structure my ecm drones finally got a jam and I got him.

Are you saying those AF kills by your Vexor is above your weight? Contrary to what people believe with the AF buff, a T1 cruiser with a competent pilot can still own a single AF any day of the week. I killed an ishkur head on in my Vexor. The only people who should be surprised by this are cocky AF pilots who think their AFs are OP now :)

I didn't expect to beat both of them at the same time like that. 1 I'm sure wouldn't be a problem, I thought 2 would give me a run for my money but they didn't. Pretty exciting though.

Very nice. Had they switched to null and orbit just within scram range, then at least one of them might've had a chance at killing you. Or not. It's a toss up. But if their orbit was right up in your face, then yeah, you would've murdered them. Did you have neuts? I like a 800 plate with medium neuts myself.

Since the Crucible buffs the Thorax has gone from good to excellent, in my opinion. It's pretty fast, hits hard with the option for slightly more range with Null rounds and can have some variability through drones (extra dps or ewar is the common choice).

It's ok for soloing as long as you keep away from BCs - which I admit is tricky given their popularity P

IMO Thorax, Vexor, and Celestis are all good pvp cruisers, the exequror can be if baiting people into thinking you are mining.

The Incursus and tristan are harder to use but IMO as good as the other t1 frigs, the Atron can also kite suprisingly well.

I say screw training Minmatar, Gallente is cooler anyway, though FWIW I fly all races, and Ruppy > all other t1 cruisers probably.

Don't say it to loudly ( we still need a couple buffs ) but Gal rock atm.

With good T2 heavy drone skills the vexor is brutal (small guns + med neut ; active or passive tank ). Thorax is face melting when fit well. ( only cruiser 1v1 i can recall not winning was vs a fleet stabber )

Celestis is lots of fun as an ecm+td kite boat.

Tristan still needs max skills to get the most out of it but it's much more competitive with the riffter and punisher since the buff. Incursus still defines the concept of suicide dps tanking and few ships are more fun to fly imo.

Mini have the riffter, cane, nado, mael, and the rupture is ok. Caldari have the drake, tengue. Amar have the babbon.

Aside from sniper bs and gate camping bc Gal F'ing rock bro.

Once you have your core drone and hybrid skills solid go for med T2 Ac's for the myrm and neut domi and start pwning.

And dont forget implants. the +5% med hybrid dps implant used to be 3or 4 mil Lol now it's 15 Cry but that's still 90 or 100 mil cheaper than every one else so no excuse to not have one.

I agree. I'm really loving the Thorax now. Blasters + plate, nano + 200mm rails, dual rep are all fun.

You can never go wrong with a Vexor. Solo or small gang. The shield gank ion blaster version with the 2x heavy, 2x medium, 1x light drone can put out a stupid amount of hurt.
