When I started just over a year ago I did what everybody does at first. Start to train all manner of ship race and weapon type. But then wisen up and focus - but with an eye towards capitals. And geez, now I feel like I'm in some kind of doctorate Eve program. Cynerosial Field Theory, Advanced Weapons Upgrades, Tactical Weapons/Sheild Reconfiguration, Jump Drive Calibration, Large Hyrid Weapons Specialization.

It'll be 6 months before I get over this hump to the next level. :)

I hope it's worth it and it get to go down in a capital - marauder - black ops blaze of space ship glory towards the end of Summer.

1 day down and 134 days 7 hours and 14 seconds to go!

(This is why I finally broke down a created a couple of Alts because I think every few days at least you just want to hear that skill training complete chime.)

I stuck to Gallente for roughly two years then crosstrained Minmatar and a little bit of Caldari. I still can't imagine goiing for capitals.

Crosstraining is highly under rated tbh.
i can use all t2 guns, all frigs 5, all cruisers 5, 2 BS 5s and can fly dreads well.
i only recently ticked over 50mil SP which i'd hardly consider to be an old toon.

the trick is to focus on a play style more than a race IMO.
for example im a combat toon, i dont bother with pretty much any int/mem skills.
hell, i couldnt even use T2 webs or MWDs untill 3 days ago, theyre just not that important for the way i play.

alternatively you can go bad ass ewar, train recons with all racial cruisers 5 and pimped out electronics skills ect.
specialzed logi pilots are also nice to have around.
each to their own.

i find it's much easier and quicker to cross train races than professions.

I've played and trained continously for 4 years 11 months, and I haven't trained any race except Caldari, nor gone anywhere near capital ships. I've got support skillz, missiles, drones, mining, and a little industry/science/leadership. Right now I'm training for Logistics/Basi. Eventually I'll train Gallente hulls so I can fly Rattlesnake and so forth, and all Tengu skillz to 5 (I think I trained them to 4 last year).

OP could be lemming because he has a horrible KB and thinks a capship will put him into God mode and wtfpwn everyone without alot of combat experience :(

That's nothing, I haven't even trained any weapon skills yet on my pvp alt. I just fly an all-tank Drake with neuts in the high slots. I just disable the target and orbit him until he logs off.

Well considering ive been flying T3s almost exclusively for 2 odd years, my webs and MWDs are always faction anyway and the cap use is a non issue :)
